Your viewers might be interested in what's inside a 'hard start kit', there isn't much there, especially for the price. If you find a dead hard start kit - take it apart on a video, There's a relay (or the equivalent) inside there along with another capacitor. An HVAC hard start kit typically contains two main components: a start capacitor which provides extra power during startup, and a potential relay that automatically disconnects the capacitor from the circuit once the compressor reaches operating speed, allowing the system to run normally; essentially giving the compressor a temporary boost to initiate start-up more efficiently.

The previous HVAC/R contractor must have been Beltson & Hedges, Toss a belt in the unit have a smoke. (hence the play on "Benson & Hedges") And naturally bill the customer for the belt and the labor.

the 2nd fan motor on that unit looked like it was picking up speed so it may just need a capacitor.... if im wrong - Id bet you have a belt just the right size to run them in tandem temporarily :)

Real brave, I would be so slow and still mess up getting those belts stuck on the motor haha. But honestly WTH is up with so many spare belts.

Why the 20 degrees differential? If you have a 18 degree coil temp ain’t the box will be around 38 ish? Why not a 5 differential?

If your compressor is not operating, wouldn’t the machine give you a “too long of freeze cycle”. Instead of a too long to harvest error ?

Phils right, get you a universal pot relay the supco or icm umsr50 as a loaner till proper parts get in. Then you can keep proper capacitor in play.

Good Catch on the Start Relay burned up. Supco makes a Great start relay for Emergency's like this. its called a "SUPR " It works perfect to use as a Generic relay. imo a better solution than the hard start & no start cap you did here. Pick one up - keep on the truck. A Great little relay. been using for years. it's electronic & senses start of compressor. it's the Rc0210 equivalent for bigger compressors. saves your bacon day.
