Bravo bravo bravo bravo.
I absolutely love the 'way' this man plays the piano! I love his phrasing, emotional transmission through the instrument and interpretation. I've hear this played a lot, and he his approach is stunningly beautiful and emotional to me. Bravo!
Unfuckingbelievable! Mr. Ohlson tells us a story of young love, love lost, and love regained. Being able to tell a story is what makes a performance exceptional. I also admire the way he reinterprets a piece over 50 years. Listen to his recording from 1970, the year he won the International Chopin Competition. It tells a different story, equally valid.
In my mind, a Ballad was always something slow, emotional, romantic. I think that this version is how a Ballade should be played. These days, people just want to play everything at lightning fast speeds, and it's just impossible to enjoy and feel the music. This is really so exquisite, what a performance!
I've heard this by everybody so it's nice to hear it played so beautifully by Garrick. Everything he plays is superb. I love this piece but I still crash and burn in the coda. Oh well, maybe one day. I couldn't live without the 4 Chopin Ballades. Every one is a gem even the 2nd.
I like that one can see the impact the piece has on the pianist himself; the effort he puts to make the emotions reach the audience doesn't leave him untouched, and that impact changes while he is playing. It is a unique opportunity, and a unique performance 🎉
This interpretation is my FAVORITE... especially because he SLOWS many passages enough so we can hear the FULL articulation in all of its magnificence.
I keep coming back to this version of this piece, musicality at its finest, Garrick knows when to slow it down and when to speed up, I can just feel his soul more with this rendition. Simply Beautiful.
Wonderful tempo! I am revisiting this piece after playing it on my graduate recital over 40 years ago. Ohlson's tempo gives me renewed hope, as I no longer conceive of this piece as I did at age 24! Bravo!
Isn't it wonderful how we mature and see things differently now. I appreciate somewhat slower tempi the older I get. I want to hear every note and intonation. Artistry is everything now for me.

The piano sounds exquisite
Godd
Too slow
Majestic,, full of poetic romanse and emotions❤❤❤
Wyjątkowa interpretacja i precyzja. Przepiękne wykonanie.
Bravó!🥲
Timeless
I loved the interpretation, while I listened, I got emotional a few times, I felt the emotion in his performance.
why is there an ad in the middle of the piece
This piano sounds so good
7:06 - Here, he has finally fused with the grand instrument itself!
I absolutely love the 'way' this man plays the piano! I love his phrasing, emotional transmission through the instrument and interpretation. I've hear this played a lot, and he his approach is stunningly beautiful and emotional to me. Bravo!
Garrick is a true master.
Bravissimo
stupenda interpretazione di Chopin, il mio favorito
Raffinatezza , intelligenza musicale, e idee da vendere ❤thanks Garrick
It was too slow for me at first but now it's my best interpretation. Truly excellent👌 Thank you for uploading!
I felt the same... but listened to it again with an open heart and mind, and now, I believe this is a masterful interpretation above reproach.
This is too slow for my taste. Ohlson needs to get more of a move on.
❤️
This video is a hidden gem

I love the tempo the clearst Ballade I've hear so far.

The best interpretation for me i've heard so far. So much sadness, passion and anger in this verson.
❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🍃🍃🍃☘

The best performance i have seen🙏🏼🌹😘
Pure control and mastery

Wow. Def my favorite version
This interpretation is my FAVORITE... especially because he SLOWS many passages enough so we can hear the FULL articulation in all of its magnificence.
me too, he slows down the 2nd theme just right. Other artists play that section too fast for my taste
That was exceptional.

FULLY AGREED... too many pianists seem to think that virtuosity lies in SPEED, while the exact opposite is true.
I find Garrick Ohlsson now woooow

@@nickk8416 Agreed!
Frederic Chopin is a gift from God to humanity.
true, true
Garrick has the body Chopin wishes he had….a gentle giant…I’ve listened to this 1000x

💯
The genius of this piece of music , it makes me think that Chopin spoke to god at the time he composed this. Simply incredible.
Near perfection! The crystal clear tone was wow! It was refreshing to hear the ending that didn't so slow! Thanks so much!
I have to listen to this recording every morning so I can acquire the energy to get out of my bed and get to work.
This literally gives me life blood 😂
Here I am again, acquiring my daily dose of energy from Chopin and Ohlsson….
