back in middle school, people would just log on, and open their friend list to see who is on. THe best thing was logging on, and getting messages from people in your guild saying: Hello, welcome on _____ . Maple Social Media was the best

Same man, same. Maybe it's my depression, idk. People always say how amazing a adult is more fun, but for me being a kid was. Maplestory, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Ps2, were all so much more fun. I was so much more carefree and at least where I live didn't get as bad as it did ever since covid. I still try to new experiences but don't feel the same. Before your video I thought of it myself to try to accept these facts, and live in the present. It is all I have is the present.

It is really good to see so many new maple story videos. Gives me hope a pre big bang version can actually happen. Nexon would have a money printing press if they were to put out a server. Cosmetics alone would cash out. I played until about 2008 made it to level 94 (when that actually was worth something) I wish I could go back.

Been playing since 2005. I'm 30 now and will forever be grateful for this game. So many good memories but I had to move on. This game is too FOMO now and punishes you for playing it all the time which causes frustration by some unfair mechanics. Besides grinding and getting stronger this game has 0 purpose now. People don't socialize, rather are in groups and it's different now. It was all about exploration, socializing, having fun, playing together. The game is still fun but kinda empty as well. Even tho I stopped playing I still watch the new content or listen to the music. These masterpieces are something I won't ever forget about. The music and visuals in this game are simply amazing. Tried to play it with my second half but UI and UX in this game is so complicated and outdated that new people will get lost in all of this. This game needs a serious remake to be relatable again.

i was 13 years old that time 2008 and the first ever i skip school to go on cyber cafe to play computer games because we don't have computer at home, while my friend play counter strike and some play dota my friend little brother who also skip school play maplestory i was sold after i saw it, i like anime since i was young and maplestory remind of anime like crayon shin chan and doraemon the character was so cute and small a chibi style character, because we don't have pc at home i don't even have email so my friend gave me some account that was their cousin account that they never use it anymore,i been using that account ever since until the owner change the password and i lose my level 70 dualblade 🥲, but before dualblade was around i started maplestory when only 4 job in game, warrior magician thief and archer, my first character was magician ice lighting, i got bored so fast because i play it when it was level 30 and the character basically empty, then i ask my friend if there is interesting job like ninja so he told me to make thief, but i got bored again because i didn't know what to do back then so i try to make 1 more character the last slot, but before that i dreamed about a job with gun, i told my friend about it, and he didn't think much of it, then i was complaining why this game doesn't have brawler monk buccaneer type job, then after a weeks maplestory was on maintenance, me and my friends disappointed because we skip school to play maplestory😂, then they decide to play counter strike while im just watching youtube videos, and that when i was the pirate promo video, i feel like i want to cry 😭, it feel like god hear my prayer 😭.. and ... man this is so many to type you guys wont read it anyway 😂 so the rest is history.. i play maplestory so much that i skip school get bored playing because the grinding is hard and have to save money to go cyber cafe to play, and got beat up from my parent for skipping school, then play private server because it was easy and so on so on~😭😭😭😭

It felt like being in a fable but now as an adult I realize it was wasted time and real life is the real fable.

Many of us are with you. Maplestory was our childhood. Nothing will be as good as it was, but I'm just happy that Maplestory existed when it did, my childhood was definitely blessed. The same for Fortnite and the kids nowadays. They'll eventually look back and be like us now. Time won't stop and we can't go back into the past. We just have to live in the moment and enjoy each minute of our days, because in 30 years, we will look at today and realize the same thing as our current selves looking at Maplestory during our childhood.

I can relate to this so much, especially the fact that i didn’t speak english while playing this game at first lmao but i can’t get this mushroom game out of my head! I’m hoping mapleworlds will cure this endless cycle for all of us that feel this way 🍄♥️

This is why I'm so excited for Maple Worlds (at least when it releases in the United States). I feel like I'll finally be able to recreate my past adventures without all the frustration of OG Maple because there were A LOT of frustrations with the game despite it being so wonderful haha. I already told my boyfriend that he'll have to play Maple Worlds with me, and I'm so excited about the adventures we'll get to go on together!

Crazy how we all lived the same life. Started playing during beta and this game being a part of my life in some capacity for so long now. I sometimes think about all those people I met "I wonder how XYZ person is doing now?" The game itself no long appeals to me as much, but the memories. I went by Wardy in beta and in Scania for years.

Nostalgic depression is the term. But don't worry, you are engaged with life. I too have not been able to leave, but I have lived as I'm retired now. This game best represents my life in gaming since the 80s. Stay healthy and maple on.

Thank you for sharing. I feel very similar, having been addicted and consumed by this game during my childhood, and even going back several times to various private servers through my adult life. I can appreciate how many improvements have been made in the official servers, but the design of classes now have a similar hollow feeling to what you described with private servers. The kits all feel the same with different colors, and got so bloated with features and flashy animations (which most people now make transparent while playing), that they lost the original impact they had. The surface level simplicity was a large part of the charm for me, and the reason I always gravitate towards early versions instead of GMS. Anyway, I digress. Hope you continue to do well on your life journey. And I share your goal of eventually playing with my kids (they’re still too young for now, but I am in the process of customizing my own v83 server for personal use to play with them and my childhood friends).

I've been playing since the Beta days (when I was still in high school). While there are many quality of life updates in the past few years, MapleStory has forever lost its magical touch back in the early days where pay to win wasn't so much a thing and interactions were much more frequent.

MS was fantastic, i feel the same in certain way. My memories are so vivid, i get very emotional seeing anything about the game. Even the skills animations and sounds of it. Just remembered the graphics of Advanced Combo Attack from hero, and that Maple Warrior sound, holly shit... Just epic. Remembered the El Nath Graphs, and entering the store and seeing the wood, the NPCS, the background music... Man, i wish i was literally inside the game. I think Maple is an entire world itself. It's a problematic but one of the most incredible worlds i've ever get into. My childhood was basically MS, the things i felt for maps, scrolling, music, even the little graphics, looking to the ambience, is magical for me. The problem of playing MS is that every version is biased to a gameplay loop which you can't experience right in private servers, because the novelty already passed, and you have less the impact of living a ''live thing''. I played DreaMMS and Royals too, and just felt very nice, but hollow as you mentioned. You can rush equipments, skills, characters. You almost don't need to connect to other people and feels like a ''dead game'' because isn't official, and the progression is a bit, not very realistic, and it only could be hard if it had the official standards of big communities, real servers, long-time playing justify. I'm doing architecture research, being uni student, lifes goes on. Got into philosophy, literature, some science, programming, but the thing that i'm the most amazed is art, and MS was the key to understand worldbuilding and feelings that no other media could give to me. Even tried other games and MMORPGS to see if it was just a distortion of my mind, but i really think isn't. Funny how something that really doesn't look any serious, and sometimes even a bit cheap, can be so amazing.
