What the guy in the video didn't tell you is that there are keys with an immobilizer chip inside. You have to transfer that to the new key too. In the corner of the key, you'll see a white plastic piece that you need to remove, and underneath it, there's a black piece of elastic that is the chip to bypass the immobilizer. You need to change this as well.

The disassembly of the original key was not as easy as shown for it was molded together, had to break it apart in small pieces but the assembly once it was apart was spot on. Thank you for the video.

I turned the screw the wrong way and now mine closes when you hit the button instead of opening 🤣🤣🤣

Last time my girlfriend’s bulb went out she took it to multiple auto shops who couldn’t figure out how to do it.Took it to the Kia dealership who charged her $150 and made her wait two hours. Just happened again and I decided to check into it, can’t believe they pulled that crap on her.

I have a used 2013 Kia Soul I recently purchased. I attempted to open the fob with needle-nose pliers and wasn't able to. Felt like I applied enough force to break a pair of handcuffs. Couldn't get it. -EDIT- Ok. So I went into the garage and dug out the dremel and carefully breached the case. It appears that this is either a replacement case, or the original where they had accidently damaged it when opening to replace the battery. It was sealed shut with some heavy duty black adhesive. Still took some prying with a big flat head screwdriver to open it enough to split it by hand. Swapped everything left the mobo in the half that has the plastic wedge to align it. Put it back together and the battery wasn't tight enough, so I folded some electrical tape and placed it on the battery to force it down. Works great now. Thanks for the video. Just thought I'd mention this for anybody wondering why their case might not be popping open with ease like the replacement or the video.

Very late to the video, but I just finished doing this today, and as others have said you don't need to remove any parts from front of the the vehicle aside from the intake duct. The main problem is that the radiator housing ever so slightly blocks the lamp holder (so you can't just pull it out directly). Instead, you'll need to unscrew the two topmost bolts holding on the headlight assembly so you can move it upwards enough that the lamp holder can be pulled out. You may also need a pair of pliers to turn the lamp housing, as they were bit stiff and in an awkward place to turn with your hands. Also, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT BULBS! I have a 2013 Kia Rio and the Sylvania 7507 bulbs did not fit, despite the fact that sites like AutoZone said they did. The bulbs in the car had two contacts on the bottom, and the two little metal tabs that hold it in the lamp holder were at 180 degrees from each other. The 7507 bulbs had just one contact and the metal tabs were at a different angle, and thus could not be slotted into the lamp holder. Instead, the Sylvania 2357A bulbs would have been the right ones.

This worked perfectly and was a lot simpler than other methods! Took me 5 minutes for 2 keys, saved me a ton of money.

Great video! Had more trouble taking it apart. Also, I found that I did have to turn the key more than once for enough tension on the spring for the key to pop out like it should. Thank you!

One minor addition: The circuit board has notches that fit into slots on the other half of the shell, which makes it MUCH easier to properly align before clicking everything into place.

What if your key broke off the fob? Is there a way to still use the key or would I have to get the new one cut? It’s no longer attached to that metal piece

Excellent video though I agree with another comment below that certainly in the UK the key also has an immobilizer chip that is separate to the PCB and this needs swapping over from the old case to the new. Had to call out the recovery guys who had seen this a million times and knew exactly what the issue was. Good work though

Exactly! This was the best video I found and while it took me 30 minutes to pry open the old key fob, it was not as easy as you made it sound the way it looked. I literally had to pound it with the needle nose, pliers inside the place where the key and the plastic waslol lol but seriously thank you so much!

Terrible video. I think you spent more time showing the two key fobs than performing the swap. Shame on you. Use the small flat-blade to remove the battery. Such idiots,
