2011 Mini Cooper S (R56) Resonator and 2nd Cat Delete
Просмотров 12 тыс.6 лет назад
Really happy with how this mod turned out! I drive a 2011 Mini cooper 3 r56 (with an n18 engine). No other mods. Let me know if you have any questions!
You talk to damn much shut up
What is a second cat delete? I'm thinking of removing my catalytic converter but not sure how and not sure if removing it will kill the car or stop it from working?
The r56 has two cats, one is near the downpipe before the o2 sensors; I would recommend leaving that one as it can throw an engine code/may be illegal depending on your state. There is a second cat closer to the exhaust. That's the only one I removed. In either case, you will not damage the car. The cats are there for emissions testing and regulation. It won't effect the way the engine runs. Hope that helps.
This confuses me, I hear a lot of people talk about a secondary cat I only have the one in the downpipe. Next is the resonator.
Mine had a cat in the downpipe before the o2 sensors then an additional in the exhaust before the tips at the back. If you remove the one before the o2 sensors you may have some issues with codes.
Did you keep your secondary cat or let them keep it?
I let them keep it. Didn't have a use for it after they cut it out and it passes emissions so no need to re-install it.
The joy I get from those pops and bangs I wish could last forever. This is my favorite engine sound in a car
Hey man, best video on this mod, thx! I see that you’ve since sold your Mini but was curious if you did any other mods or a tune? I recently got a 2012 Mini Cooper S Clubman was gonna do this 2nd cat/res delete and possibly consider a tune after but wanted to hear your thoughts!
Hi Eric, glad it's helpful! I was planning on tuning it but I just ended up with other projects before I sold it. I installed a cai (but not sure I would recommend one as the performance gains seem marginal to none), and a forge blow off valve kit to prepare for a pressure increase through an ecu tune. Both were relatively easy installs and it did make it sound pretty awesome. if you do a tune it seems like a more robust blow off valve is a good idea from what I researched online.
i just bought a 2014 mini cooper s coupe and the day after buying the car i did this and it made the car so enjoy able to drive., but its really nice to switch off sport mode and have not pop.
I live in Maryland as well. What shop did you use???!!!
Any hp gains
Not sure- I never got it on a dyno. It seemed to be slightly quicker but that could have been in my head.
Great vid very helpful! Did u keep the stock tips since u didn’t delete the back box?
Yep!
Any drone in the inside of the car when driving? And did the mods affect the back pressure or anything like does the car accelerate good and run good?
Never had any issues with droning and it never seemed to effect driving negatively!
THanks!
I see a comment where you mentioned that you sold the car, but did you also experience increased popping with SPORT mode OFF? I am thinking of doing this and was wondering if I could leave the SPORT mode off for a "quieter" exhaust...like when leaving early in the morning for example.
Great question! The popping only exists in sport mode. I was worried about the same thing-didn't want to wake my neighbors. When sport mode is off, there is a bit more of a gurgle and it definitely starts louder but I wouldn't worry about it being too loud for an early morning drive. Hope that helps.
@@bobbyiv9335 Thanks for the info!
@@afkellner Did you do ? how did it work out for you? you like it?
This video is still valid in 2023🎉
Hey brother did you get any check engine light from cat and resonator delete?
Nope! No CEL
GREAT AWESOME !!! All the nags gonna know when you are home! If you owe them money, you are in trouble! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have a 2007 mini with a 2011 mini engine so do you think it would sound the same?
It should! If you have a n18 engine/exhaust setup
I was about to ask what state you’re in because I also don’t want to violate emissions, but apparently the 1/50 chance was good enough. You’re also in Maryland! You also happen to have pretty much the same Mini as me, minus a few mods. You have no clue how long I’ve been looking for a video like this lmao. Also, You didnt have any issues passing emissions with this?
Sorry for the delay; no issues at all! Did you end up going ahead with the mod?
Great video
After watching this video i did the same. It sounds good. Just A bit louder and pops and bangs are Much noticeable and louder. I will add catless Downpipe Soon.
Yeah the pops and bangs after the mod are awesome!
GREAT AWESOME !!! All the nags gonna know when you are home! If you owe them money, you are in trouble! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
do we need to tune after catless downpipe?
Did it send you a check engine light? Or anything at all?
Thats my question too i have 13 Cooper s
Sorry for the delay; no CEL or anything wrong!
@@jra9073 Nope no check engine light and no problems at all!
So it this just the part that's in the middle like the long built in box ? It sound great mine hardly pops at all, I want the pips !!! Haha
stu - KF yep pretty much! If you google your car model name and look at pictures of the exhaust from below it’s easy to tell what it is
Did you do a muffler delete as well or was it just the cat and res? I’m about to do a 2nd cat delete, res delete and a muffler delete
Just the 2nd cat and resonator. Based off my research, if you remove the muffler as well you'll get a ton of highway droning which I wanted to avoid
Tyler Joyce did you do the second cat resonator muffler delete yet? I’m looking to do the same thing.
@@DanEatsHam1 hey Dan, did you do the same as well? I’m looking to do the same also
Did you experience any CEL? Love the sound mate!
Thanks! No CEL at all and it sounded even better after a few months!
@@bobbyiv9335 still no CEL?
@@quest4019 I sold this car a while ago but put about 10k miles on it without a CEL. Can't imagine you'll have a problem!
Could you please let me know the shop that did the work? I am located in DC and I can drive there. Places in a Virginia won’t touch the second cat..: thanks so much, your mini sounds awesome!
I went to Henry's muffler shop in Raleigh NC. But honestly anywhere in NC would be fine. It'll still pass emissions because there are two cats from the engine to the end of the pipes.
Thanks! I had a tough time in VA but found a shop outside of DC. $120 per month. @@bobbyiv9335
Did you do in 3” or 2,5” ? The catback? You delete boht cat?
I'm not really sure the diameter of the pipe as I didn't cut it myself but from what I can see they used the same diameter as the rest of the pipe. I can't delete both cats because of the laws in my state so this is just the cat that's in the exhaust, not the one that comes right off the engine. Hope that helps!
Great vid, just what I needed
