If I was taking my vehicle into a desert I'd atleast be using manufactures torque specifications and a torque wrench! No way you got 50Nm and a 90° turn on those cv bolts like that. Appreciate your time and the video but 100% refer to some manufacturers specs
@@easternrc1924 i havent looked at my video for a long time, but i dont think you can say how much friction there was or how strong i am, and some say the factory torque spec permanently deforms the bolts - you dont want to do that again the bolts could fail. The vehicle did tens of thousands of kilometers after i did that work with the only issue being the failure of the aftermarket CV boots which were not designed for much angularity.
thanks por replying mate, here in argentina they dont sell aftermarket rims for the amarok, i will tell you the options i have and you tell me what is the best option to fit 285s. regarding the rims, i have the taruma on my amarok, i could only get the steelies if they were needed. regarding the lift, i can do a 2 inch lift here ir argentina regarding the offset, i have the taruma or i could buy the steelies (even those are really expensive here), and also i can buy spacers (30mm or 40mm) so with all that info, what would you recommend based on the options i have access to fit the 285/75/16?
Hi mate, hope you are doing good. I have a question, i have a 2011 amarok with the stock taruma wheels, i want to put 285s (33s) on my amarok, but i dont have access to a wide variety of wheels in argentina, we barely have anything here. so i want you to help me understand what would i need to do to fit them, here in argentina people do a body lift and spacers to fit 285s, but i dont want to do the body lift mod. is it possible to fit them without a body lift?
To fit 285 33" you need offset of +15 or +20 and to do the heat gun mod to the rear of the front inner guard. Depending how and where you drive you may also want to remove or modify the front mud flap and fit heavy duty or heavy duty raised coils. A mild body lift doesn't hurt but it is not needed.

Hey one question i was doing the breather stuff the last days and at the Automatic transmission it seems also on drawings that the breather ends in the black box. Is this the case ? So it doesnt matter if i cut the Tube and take only the Lines which Comming from the top of the Gearbox
@@steffenneubauer1943 i did it a while ago and i wouldnt want to tell you any wrong, but from memory its not even a box, its just some folded metal that kinda protects and holds the ends of the hoses. So i think what you propose is fine.
how do you remove the two axle shaft housings from the sides? do they slide out? i have one side seal has gone - could this be changed under the car?
You certainly randomly picked the right product...
You need new lifted hd springs mate 😉
Interested to get the kit for my NM pajero!
Hi. They can be purchased at this link: rhsoffroadengineering.com.au/
Thanks heaps mate. Now that lots of time has passed what size tires would you go for on tge rok for serious offroading even if it meant some trimming etc?
305 70 16 or 305 65 17 are good choices requiring minimal trimming. The 295 70 17 is a bit bigger in diameter and is nice but it's a fair amount of extra work to get them to not scrub.
Thanks Cobber. I'm considering this model to replace a 'husky' which is costing a lot to use thanks to the people in Canberra increasing excise + GST on petrol.
Now knowing this, could you just pull the mirror off, apply tape, and re-fix the mirror, and not have to remove the backing plate at all?
There is or was a short video on youtube that shows how to take the back plate off. It's actually easy.
I just did this to my Mazda 6 worked like a charm. $700 savings on a new mirror the car dealership quoted. Thanks🎉🎉
I as well need to do this to my Mazda 6. Passenger side is fine, never vibrates even while playing the stereo. But just driving down the highway, it moves so much you cant really make out much. Was it hard to do? Im afraid I'm gonna break the damn thing pulling the mirror part off.
Any information out there on painting OVER Bullyliner. That is, a tutorial on what paint, prep used for painting OVER the liner once you are finished with the Bullyliner job. Say...when you want some other color. Thanks, I want the protection and effect but in white (OR) an Acrylic metalic color. Wondering how that texture will look when combined with a metallic finished coat. Thanks! I called the company and they said they did not produce white as yet.
Had any issues with diff since then? trying to decide whether to do it 8mm hose instead for more air flow... but more tricky to do. So i want to just go 6mm like you have done.
No issues noticed thus far.
Thank you for this video. I have the same issue with my 2007 Pajero. I am going to move one of the shims don't tomorrow.
Hi mate, brilliant video! I’m wanting to do this myself but can’t find the 4mm to 6mm hose adapters anywhere. What store did you get them from please?
From memory it was from supercheap or autobarn. Not sure if it's on ebay as a single item. There is a kit you can get with lots of sizes but it costs a crazy amount.
Spot on, cheers brother. They didn’t have them in store when I checked online, but they’re ordering me in some on Monday. I got underneath my pajero earlier just to suss it out before I carry out the work & above that bracket that holds the Gearbox and transfer Case breathers seems to have another breather style hose above it, do you have any idea what that might be?
@@rhyscavill3848 its a while ago now, i cant quite recall what you might be referring to. Maybe try to get your phone in there to take some pictures.
I’ve heard people say that the breathers for the transfer case are at the top middle of the transmission. I’m pretty clueless myself, but do you think those hoses in the black brackets are definitely the breathers for the transfer case And transmission?
@@rhyscavill3848 from memory, yes, and especially so if i mention it in the video. I traced everything. I had the benefit of a 10mm subframe drop making access a tad easier.
Hi Rhett, Thank you for the video, it's very informative! When talking to the 285 tyre you mention rounded vs square edge tyres and that a square edge tyre might need +18 instead of +20 offset. Do you have examples of tyres that you consider have a round vs a square edge? I'm considering a 17x8.5 +20 wheel with a 285/70 tyre and trying to pick a compatible tyre model. Thanks
The important thing is the width of the tread area. You can readily measure this if you have access to the tyres, or some manufacturer spec sheets used to have that information. I can tell you from my observation for example that a falken wildpeak has a narrower tread width than a mickey thompson P3. I have some opinions on some other tyres but not that many. If you intend to go offroad i suggest an 8" wide rim with a 285 to 305 wide tyre in order to reduce the risk of rim damage.
Thanks @@rhetth-s8082 Appreciate you sharing your thinking
Nice how can I do or fix my side glass I don't know how to move it at all. If I move the switch, it doesn't make anything, just a noise.

Next time I'm out, I am going to get myself a Podger Bar as per your recommendation! It will be a good addition to my toolkit. Poetry in motion watching your work. Thanks for making this video, as I've now got an Amarok...Cheers!
It is the best video I have seen yet
What lug bolt size do I need to run with a 16x8 +30 offset rim on a 2017 4cyl 420 core amarok?
The original wheel bolts probably have a ball seat, and most aftermarket rims have a tapered seat, requiring different wheel bolts, but you can typically run the same length as standard, unless there is something unusual about the replacement rim. You can measure how far the current bolt protrudes from the current rim, then put the bolt in the replacement rim and compare. Shorter and longer wheel bolts are available but unlikely to be needed.
@@rhetth-s8082 thankyou so much for getting back to me!
Это усиленные привода?
Wow, maybe the montero won’t float if you fill in the 3 row seat storage with heavy things ,
When i did Nolan's i had heavy stuff in there including a toolbox, but they all got wet. When i did the next deep river, the Pascoe, i moved all my stuff out of there and filled the area with rocks for ballast. It still floated a bit but i made it across. If i didn't put the rocks in it might have floated downstream.
@@rhetth-s8082 yes, I understand, due to the flotation it is too risky, maybe once we upgrade the suspension, add some batteries and trek stuff to the back , it might be enough to barely cross , hehe maybe let’s add some electric tiny water propulsion motor jets to the back😅 it could become handy 😂 an experiment for you to make content and for us to watch 🙃, kidding stay safe.
@@astro2456 ha ha. I was running light, only one person and gear for one person. While the Pajero seems liable to floating sooner than other vehicles due to the generally lower floor and the rear compartment, most people carry enough load to keep some tread on the ground.
Have you got any lift on your truck mate?
It has about 35mm of lift at the front.
Hi Rhett, I am wondering how's the performance for the 4mm plate I have a Pajero and looking for a light weight durable plate thanks
Hi. My 4mm plates offer incredibly low weight coupled with good durability. There are a fair few out there on vehicles now and i haven't yet received any reports of damage to them.
I got bogged in my v6 in sand and couldn’t reverse to get my self out and I wasn’t even bogged really bad. Had to get snatched out. I love everything about my amarok but that part is just shit. Sad part is I paid 1200 for a tune before the trip and still couldn’t reverse the bloody thing. 🤌
I suggest you contact your tuner and ask them if they removed the reverse torque limiting and if not ask them to remove it. They should have removed it as part of the tune.
What about the shocks? Can you use the standard one?
Yes, standard shocks are fine.
With the outback armour shocks, and without a diff drop; have you ever noticed the CVs clicking under acceleration, or when towing? When the shocks are at full droop.
The Outback Armour shocks i fitted were supposedly only 5mm longer than standard. No, i did not notice a clicking issue under those circumstances, but i didnt tow.
all talk no action.
Thanks for sharing 👍😎
Bro Im researching how to fix the spring clip that locks the door in.. any advice?..
Do you have a video of installing the door catch mechanism - with the spring under tension it must be a challenge
Whats the difference you felt after installing these?
They dont feel different, they just raise the height. The stiffness of the coil remains the same.
Hi do you do have any online shop link where to buy this coil insulator? thanks!

Thanks Rhett a good clear and unhurried review. I got fed up with my heavy corded chainsaw and ordered one of these. I then looked at your review afterwoods as you do. I am now confident I made the right choice.
Excellent work. Thank you for the video. I didn’t know it had a backing plate. Gives me more confidence to pry on mine which is lose too. Will give this a try! Thanks!
Have you had to replace it yet?
No, but i sold the vehicle so i dont know anymore.
Perfect. I’m in the UK, Thank you for taking the time to upload this video. On my 2006 shogun I was having problems with the door dropped. And difficulty closing and water leaking into the door via the rubber gasket around the door. I followed your directions and took the 3 shims out of the top hinge and it now closes perfectly and it’s drawn the top of the door in, and cured the leak. ❤ i would never have guessed that there were shims on that hinge and the advice of the key ways made it a really simple fix. 😊😊
What year?. Include year and model in title. There's like 4 generations of Vito's
did you just swap the rear diff? I mean how does it goes on the 4h, the front diff still 3.9 which means the front wheels always 10% faster than the rear.
I swapped front and rear diffs.
Hey there! I know who built the huts. They used to go on regular trips in and would stay 2 or 3 days! Good old fashion boys weekends!
Thats interesting to hear some local insight. I didnt see any huts, were there roofs around the trees, or?
There was a shelter around 10ft up a tree lol. There should be quite a few more in the area. All quite different depending on how much alcohol was involved. They would be driven in and then hike the rest of the way. Usually 4 to 6 young blokes rain hail or shine! So the shelters would be made to suit. They are quite chuffed to see your video!!
Lovely work
Do these work fine with airbags in the rear? I’ll buy a set if they fit
Hi Wes. They have no impact on airbags, completely compatible.
I never really have a problem with someone tapping my hood as im driving.....but i do check every morning to see if someone is hiding under there
My vito just has the dash warning constantly intermittently flashing in and off. Nightmare. Think il just join the contacts permanently
