Просмотров 1653 года назад
Trace Moroney's "When I'm Feeling" series contains eight books for young children, introducing different feelings and how to work through them - plus parent guides written by psychologists. Highly recommended!
Thinking About Language
Просмотров 543 года назад
This is the longest I've lived exclusively in English since I was 21, and I have feelings about that! In this video I share some reflections on living without a present connection to the Chinese language, and why I believe it's so important that we talk about our emotional connections to languages.

Coping with Uncertainty
Просмотров 673 года назад
I'll say it: uncertainty sucks. Seasons change predictably, but the last 18 months have brought a lot of interruptions and uncertainty for many of us. It's exhausting! How can we create some comfort and pleasant anticipation in a world of uncertainty?
Waiting to bloom: a hopeful image for those (like me) exhausted from living in limbo

Where in the world is Tanya?? (an update)
Просмотров 163 года назад
You may have noticed I've been pretty quiet the last 15 months. As it turns out, I've been around the world and back - to my parents' house (for now!). This video is a quick update to explain what's been going on and my hope that you'll be hearing more from me soon.
Cross Cultural Family Inventory demonstration
Просмотров 513 года назад
In this video I give a quick demonstration of the Cross Cultural Family Inventory exercise and how to do it yourself. The goal is to become more aware of cross-cultural influence and intersectionality in your own family history.
Third Culture Venn Diagram demonstration

In this video I demonstrate the Third Culture Venn Diagram exercise, how it works and how to use it.
Personal Identity Rainbow demonstration
Просмотров 263 года назад
A demonstration of the Personal Identity Rainbow exercise for use with Cross Cultural Kids (CCKs). This simple exercise encourages CCKs to bring their various identity pieces together into one beautiful picture, giving them a final product they can use to tell their story to others. In this demonstration I do a very rough P.I.R. for you to follow along, but I often have students as young as eig...
Are immigrant kids TCKs?
Просмотров 1614 года назад
Many people have asked me this question - are immigrant kids TCKs? In this video I explain why I think it's important to differentiate the experiences of immigrant kids and TCKs, partly because while there are a lot of overlaps, there are also significant differences. In addition to this, without clear differentiation, it's hard to recognise the impact of intersectionality - when a Cross Cultur...
Story time: my childhood TCK friends (before I lived overseas!)
Просмотров 374 года назад
In this video I get a little more personal, and reflect on some childhood friendships that have been meaningful to me.From age 8-13, before moving overseas, I had several close friends who were themselves TCKs. 20 years later, working with TCKs and beginning research, I would finally realise the connection and saw these friends in a new light. This is a book full of practical, hands on exercises and activities parents can use to help their children develop socially and emotionally. The goal is for TCKs to grow into emotionally healthy adults, and this book puts tools in parents' hands to start that journey with their kids right from a very young age. Read ar...

I came here unconvinced that there would be a difference between the two, you thoroughly convinced me, especially with the expectations of the host country. I am ethnically Rwandan but moved to Canada at 6 and feel Canadian, haven't been back to Rwanda since and I only have a Canadian Passport. The question " where are you from?" Always challenges me and changes depending on who I am speaking to. I am also tri-lingual in a largely unilingual area which adds to the cultural confusion from others. They often want to put me in a box and it's complicated.

This is fantastic. I have lived overseas as well as in immigrant neighborhoods in my host country and there are so many similarities. I really found this helpful to talk about where pressure and expectations might be coming from with the different groups. Just tonight my wife and I were trying to distinguish the differences. My son is American but was born in Nepal but has lived most of his life in a Nepali community in the US. He has a lot in common with immigrant kids yet he is not the same. I love these sorts of conversations so thanks for putting this out there!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I appreciate your honest perspective, while at the same time your compassion for others having a more difficult time. I live in China too, but have been unable to get back since traveling to Thailand at the end of January.
