The Unconventional Grower
Добавлен 5 фев 2024
The methods we use on Plot 14 are unconventional compared to traditional allotment gardening! We are not afraid of trying new ideas and learning through failure, however our main aim is simply to enjoy being outdoors.
You can see how the plot has evolved through videos on www.youtube.com/@thekidgrower which is my son's channel we started a few years ago just for fun.

Episode 8 - How to Sow Peas in Guttering
We are hoping for a nice day mid week for a hot dog 🌭 roast on the bonfire 🔥. More great work done ✅, have a fab day, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
Autumn is a great time of the year, clear up and make plans for next year. ..and a bonfire and hotdog is a fair reward for the hard work 😂👍
Oh lord I have to wash my poly and get things cleaned before the snow arrives 😂. My apple tree gives me 🍏 1 a year. You still have some amazing harvests to come so good on you. Our garden is mostly done. Have a fab week, Ali ☔️🥶🇨🇦 Ps if you give me your first name I will mention you in my next video 👍, it’s important to promote each other
Hi Ali, yeah its all go now this time of the year to get things cleared out, cleaned down etc before the new season starts. Thanks for the promo offer, it definitely is important to promote each other. I will do likewise the next time i'm up at the plot properly. Have a great week. - Matt.... The Unconventional Grower!
Those plums look so tasty 😋
Here the big pumpkin growers just let all the leaves die back in place and then they can see the pumpkins 🎃 so assuming the same would work for cucumbers 🥒. Def transplant the strawberries 🍓. Lots to get tidy at this time there’s definitely jobs a plenty. Have a super week, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦
👍👍👍
I can't believe you have tomatoes when is you 1st frost ours was today
Yeah first real frost was on Friday. I though that the Cheery Falls variety that are not under cover would get caught by the frost but they seemed to escape any further damage. I'm not sure how long they will last but I'm hopeful for another round from those that are under cover.
i had gooseberry bushes but the bloody sawfly attacked them all...
1 of the gooseberry bushes suffered this year from that but also some of the red currants.
I’m surprised you still have tomatoes mine are all done and frozen. My carrots 🥕 were attacked by caterpillars 🐛 so I harvested them all. 😂 my pepper plant has flowers too but sadly we had pants pepper 🫑 production. Great update guys it’s all done well, Ali 🌞☔️🇨🇦
I find the Cheery Falls variety can go longer into the year, they are just about hanging on. I'm hoping to get another round from those that are under cover however I'm not that hopeful for the bigger variety (Alicante) ripening now that the temps are falling.
Fall is definitely clear, clean and feed the beds. I would probably chop the raspberries and give them a good mulch for next season. Good to be harvesting still. Have a great week, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦
That's definitely on the to do list! I've the black and red currants that require the same treatment.
Hello ,I find at this time of the year mu plot looks tired ,it’s worked hard all summer and usually autumn is time to have a big tidy up.Always lots to do .👍👍
Hello! It's true that this season is always busy, the pine trees have been working very hard all summer. Fall is here and it's time to clean up and prepare for the next phase. But I believe, the results will be worth it!” "Do you have any specific plans for the garden in the fall?"
@@MicroUrbanGardenWonders no big plans but I will keep growing in the greenhouse 👍👍
@MicroUrbanGardenWonders I think for me Fall will about maintaining the structures that's in the plot, I have ideas on creating some larger fruit cages pending gaining approval from the council that own the allotment. Then of course its looking at what succession seeding can get done before winter truly sets in.
Hallo 👍. It’s such an amazing thing to finally harvest the fruits of our labour. I have bought white cucumbers 🥒 for next season. Great update guys, have a lovely weekend, Ali 🌧️🌞🇨🇦
Yikes wind is so destructive 😢. Hopefully you can get it all snugged up again and fix the damage. Hope it’s nice for a while there, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
Fab harvest it’s pouring here so 😂 I’ll check later (maybe), Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
joshuas dad
hello mr wood
I know that feeling of weeds appearing if you turn your back for 2 mins 😂😂 I have made a video about it 👍 maybe large washers around the screws would help your sheeting behave 👍
Awesome to save seed isn’t it 👍, I try to do that every year. Shame about the covers plastic does not like the sun at all 😢. I have heard of eating flowers. It I just haven’t done it yet. Insane what plants do with some sunshine and being left to their own devices 😂😂. Great update harvests are fab, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
I picked all my peas the other day I grew alderman and they literally took over 🤦♀️. But hubby eats them out of a bowl like candy. Excellent harvests you have. Happy growing have a fab time away, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

Top tips! 😃 I try and save as much seed as I can, but I always cave in and end up buying some too 😉
Great tips on saving and sowing seeds, love the bench its cool. Never geard kf the nettle fertiliser and yeah we havd loads of nettles if only out plants grew as fast as weeds 😂
Great job 👏 I really like the mini greenhouses and the design on how you protect the beds with the hooped desigs
New subscriber I like the box house idea, might try it with fine mesh covering👍 good to see you also show younger growers how it’s done.
