Firstly thinks for the invite…. On my way to sign up for the book club right now. And I will be checking out The Chestnut Man…. I need a good thriller, I read The Silent Patient recently and it was good…. But I was able to figure everything out in it before the reveal which was a bummer.

That snow did not last long enough. And there is a way to turn off Siri speaking with apple maps. There's a button on the top right just under the directions that looks like a speaker. If you click that and then click the icon that has a slash through the speaker that turns off her speaking. I wish I read the same books as you since we live in the same town, that would be so cool.

Hi Danny, I'm praying for you. Hope you do get to see your folks this month. Nice thing about reading Misery during the holidays is no matter how bad you got it King makes you feel like someone else has it worse! 😂 I imagine you've already read a lot of Stephen King, but for those who have not be advised he's dark, not quite Cormac McCarthy DARK, but plenty dark. Also Misery is not necessarily the best place to start with him. The Stand is a good read and doesn't have a bunch of that claustrophobic feel like H.G. Well's War of the Worlds trapped like a rat in that darn celler for half the book. Can't wait to hear your thoughts. Enjoy!

You are so welcome!! We love you! ❤ And yea I agree. Some of SK’s writing can be really “not” indigenous & racist. I recently tried to research the “why” behind it because all of his books don’t have what they call the “magical” negro trope. But most do and it’s disheartening. One thing I learned is him trying to connect the ideology of the character to the story line. I’ve just said that he wrote some of those tropes in “real time” in his era and kept the scope of them because of the stature he gained over decades of writing. But in some of his recent writings, criticism came up about a character in the dark tower series that he changed the negro trope from. He is a great writer and has a way with words but his tropes can and do make him sound like a bigot for sure! And we live in different times so it doesn’t excuse him to continue to write in such format. Which I’m glad in his recent series, it was addressed! I enjoy his reading for historical context; but Misery doesn’t carry any of those tropes. So I hope this one is better!

When I saw in your last vlog that dollar tree had books… I instantly went. Well, I grabbed a whole bunch not knowing anything about any of them. Now, im watching this & you have “the jigsaw man” listed in your recommendations & im thinking why does that sound so familiar…? Girl, tell me why I look up at my bookshelf and I realized that’s one of the books I found at the dollar tree for $1.25 in my little town that has a population of barely 2,000 people.
