They can stab magically, stab harder or stab while checking if you're lying! The Dual Wielding Warlock for d&d 5e
You don't need duel weapon fighter as hex worrier allows you to use your cha modifier on that weapon if you use it in your offhand
Why are grappler build? Wouldn’t it just be better to just hit the enemy?
1) a grappler can help with crowd control, keeping enemies in place and making them easier to hit for your friends. Having decent crwod control also makes you a better tank. If you can't pin an enemy down somehow, or keep their attention, they can just ignore you and run towards the squishy mage and punch him all day long. 2) you can still hit stuff while grappling, just leave 1 hand open. 3) Fun, not every build has to be aimed at outputting the most damage. 4)Having the possibility to grapple enormous creatures is just bloody epic.
This video would be ALOT better with time stamps! Please edit this video, and all future vids please time stamp!
@@Mr.Wizard101 I should indeed use timestamps on more of my videos. In my head this one was too short to bother, but I forget how handy they are.
Yeah, gloomstalker is awful. Mostly because including it forces the rest of the party to adapt to its playstyle. It's as bad if not worse than darkness/devil's sight builds. I disagree that hunter is not as good as the non-PHB rangers. Colossal slayer and Horde breaker are excellent damage boosts. And you don't have to skulk around in the dark. Hence why I dislike the kobold pick as well. Variant human gets a feat and there are a couple I'd want for this build so I'd do that. And I'd go for more battlemaster levels. Unless I wanted to lean into the returning weapon build. Eldritch knight + 2 Artificer levels (for returning weapon & enhance weapon infusions). The problem is the reliance on Int and the spells not improving the build.
Hunter is the better of the phb subclasses, but lacks scaling. Colossal slayer is only ever 1d8/turn, later similar mechanics scale their dice better. Horde breaker is great if the enemy clutters a lot. Variant human is often a better pick, but I steer clear from it on purpose. There are very few builds that don't become better with a free-pick feat at lvl 1, but it also becomes really boring really quickly for me to build around that. I like showcasing other races a bit more than just saying "picky vary human with feat x" every build video. It's true that some builds can steer parties towards a certain playstyle, but gloomstalker is not that decisive (devil's sight for sure has a stronger impact). The single ability that revolves around darkness should not decide the entire playstyle. It's just a nice exploration boon to have.
Im making a rogue hexblade dual wielder and just found this vid, nice ;)
Glad to be of service! Let me know how it turns out.

Earin has The Sunken Boar, a riverside tavern not far from a well-traveled road connecting two large cities. Its proprietor has a knack and reputation for spinning tall tales. He claims a massive irontusked boar attacked him and charged into one of the pillars holding up the terrace covering part of the river, causing half the terrace to all but collapse into the waters below. The falling debris came crashing down unto the ravaging beast, ultimately sending it to a watery grave. Inhonor of the mighty beast, the tavern was named the Sunken Boar and no repairs to the terrace were made. According to the locals however, the proprietor made everything up in order not to be arsed with repairing the collapse, which was caused by his own stubborn behavior in the first place. However, this explanation does not take into account the many reports of strange shapes and sounds seemingly haunting the collapsed terrace at night... Perhaps some weary yet brave travelers could get to the bottom of this mystery during one of their stays?
thanks sm for this!!!
I like the idea of giving a name that leaves your players guessing! 😁 The peppered... The Broken... And the words that were hammered on the sign fell off 😅
Thanks! A compliment from people who spend their time helping people design inns and other players effortlessly counts double to me :D. Yeah, giving players some miniscule details to hyperfocus on can be fun. Gives them opportunities to add to the story.
@@TheAtticDungeon. Totally agree!
You're a bit mistaken. Pack tactics gives advantage only to your melee attacks this way. Since it doesn't give you advantage if you have an ally next to you, but next to your enemy that you target. So you won't have advantage in range if none of your allies are in position. Also cavalier is not a mounted subclass. It is advertised as one but it gives so little advantage that it's almost none. Only 1 class feature in case of falling from your mount which almost never happens and another that reduces your speed cost mounting and dismounting, which is even more situational. It doesn't have any ability to boost the mount or help himself when mounted. It doesn't get any other ability at higher levels and the already existing doesn't scale with level. It's a joke to call that a mounted subclass. On the other hand the paladin's find steed has a built in mount buff, which scales with levels since the buffs the paladin receive scale with level, which by the way can be stolen by the bard's magical secrets, which makes even that a better mounted combatant than the cavalier and the paladin's auras, which scales with level, automatically protect its mount. That makes the unspecialised paladin a way better mounted combatant than all the above. And the battlesmith is specifically created to be a possible mounted option. The steel defender scales with level and provide a built in protection option that the mount can provide against melee attackers.
What you say about pack tactics is true, I worded it a bit poorly. Battlesmith can be a mounted class indeed, if you play a small race, but they don't really get any support for it, so you can pick up some things here and there to make it work. It's definately fun. I play a Dwarven Battlesmith atm, and he gets on his goat after he has Enlarged it and has a cool interaction because I have a Saddle of the Cavalier, so there's fun to be had with the disadvantage that gives combined with the disadvantage the Steel Defender can give.
@@TheAtticDungeon. Sorry, but the steel defender using its reaction every turn to protect its rider is already way more support to the mounted playstyle that the cavalier ever gave. And the steel defender also can be healed by its creator with mending. Quite the contrary: the cavalier cannot protect or heal its mount, cannot fight better while mounted, the mount cannot protect it. It's only mounted feature is that it can move 10-15 more feets after dismounting and have a little higher chance to not fall prone when its mount dies, which in most cases doesn't matter because the enemy either doesn't have more attacks to use while its prone or the horde of enemies catch up and finish the rider anyway. And also a mount dying is so rare that it happens only a handful of times in a year long campaign. The cavalier is a joke as a mounted combatant. Even a ranger or eldritch knight is better who uses its spells to buff its mount with its spells.
@@gaborbazso7812 Ranger for sure is a better mounted combatant with that drakewarden subclass. I think the only downside to the Battlesmith is that you need to play a small race to consistently use your Steel Defender as a mount (if not homebrewing/ getting constant back up from spellcasters or handing out your fancy lvl 11 spell storing feature to the fighter so he can cast enlarge on your mount and keep concentration for that on him.) But I completely agree that the cavalier is more about crowd control than being a mounted knight. Poorly chose name because they wanted to have the class fantasy of amounted knight available to other classes I suppose?
@@TheAtticDungeon. Not really. They are just coming up with game mechanisms completely separately from the fluff, then they combine them and they don't even have any measurement guidelines to doublecheck themselves, which creates that the end result became a complete lie. The whole conceptual and fluff side of the cavalier is a mounted combatant. Not just the name, but everything written into the archetype description says that it is fundamentally unseparable to its mount. Then you don't get any game mechanical support for their claims and even those subclasses who are conceptually doesn't support at all and go to a completely different direction, outperform them on mounted combat. Even an eldritch knight who uses buff spells on its mount, which is not its specialty, become far more better mounted combatant than a cavalier ever could. It is a complete lie from WotC that the cavalier is a mounted combatant because it doesn't get any support for that, just its 2 ribbon features. WotC went headstong into the lie and people believe it because they lack critical thinking and are naive.
''I know a guy, the god of the sea'' 😀
nice!
I hate monster races. Originally, they were given special abilities to offset the fact that they were not accepted in towns and cities. But in 5e, thanks to the optimized community, goblins, orcs, lizardfolk, and kobolds are super popular. The PHB races are boring by comparison. Ugh!
I rarely encounter players that play monster races tbh. They're not thought of as being boring whatsoever. Don't forget that a lot of people play d&d to play those iconic races. Since the game encourages you to create your own setting and cities, it's weird to think goblins are never accepted and thus should be given something to offset any potential social disadvantage they might have...
Variant Human joins the chat, popular with optimisers you say?
@jesseseva2219 Touche. That one connected. I guess I am old school D&D where you didn't play monsters, you killed monsters. And there was a distinct difference between the two.

What about Human Variant with the Eldritch Adept feat for Mask of Many Face
Oh that would definately work as well, but does the world need more variant humans? 😂. I thought changeling to be a bit more fitting of the concept. Love that you'd be willing to go vary human for something "small" like mask of many faces instead of picking the "big" feats.
@@TheAtticDungeon. gotta sell the deception!!! Mask of Many Faces or Misty Visions on a Misty Visions on a Trickery Cleric is almost OP
I am currently working on a character I will play in a one-shot against a dragon. He'll be level 14. I will start with 3 levels in Hunter Ranger, followed by 11 levels in Rune Knight fighter (for all the reasons you mentioned). With Hunter Ranger I will be picking up Giant Killer because as I will be the thorn in the dragons' back I expect to be attacked a lot, effectively weaponizing my Reaction every turn. Ranger also gives me Expertise and Reflex save proficiency. I will be picking up Shield Master so I can dodge those dragon breath weapon attacks completely. In terms of race and flavor I am picking Simic Hybrid but reflavored as a Warforged with two extra arms and climbing appendages (climb speed to effectively run/climb around on the dragons' back). I will be picking up a Potion of Growth for one of my magic item picks.
I love it when a cool concept gets supported by a nice reflavour. Hunter ranger will certainly serve you well here. Don't forget that the extra damage from Giant's Might applies to your reaction attacks as well (it works the same way as a rogue's sneak attack in that regard). Makes Giant Killer even more vulnerable. Also the irony that a giant will be using Giant Killer...
I’m playing a DEX based Hexblade with two scimitars, the Slasher feat and Mobile feat right now…it’s awesome, so much fun. She’s a nun vigilante who follows the god of justice, the Faceless background and her Masquerade tattoo keeps her identity secret etc. Definitely recommend playing warlocks as good guys, the dark edge lord is so stereotypical and overdone.
You had me at "dual wielding vigilante nun". Sounds like a great concept backed up by a fun build!
Real quick, you definately can BB or GFB. Somatic components can be cast with the same hand as material components, but only if the spell has a material component (which is the BS part). BB and GFB have a material component of “melee weapon worth 1sp” so you can make the somatic component with your sword hand, most likely being swinging the blade as part of the attack.
Love it when some rule snippets get tossed my way!
I've only played an Order cleric, and only up to level 4, but it was a lot of fun and my companions really enjoyed the free attacks I was giving them while blessing and healing them.
The free attacks are a superb lvl 1 feature, especially great if they have something that can piggyback off that ( pala smite, rogue sneak attack, ranger hunters mark,...)
Nice video! I always enjoyed Regis from R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt chronicles. He knew when to be ruthless and make the most of an opening, but was primarily focused on the comforts of an easy life. He loved good food, did scrimshaw carvings, and had a knack for getting the things he needed. My OC is a half-elf raised in a halfling home/inn/tavern of a large city, so he picked up hospitality skills along with a few fingers that wandered a bit. That background seemed like a grounded, nice thing to have.
Good vid
I love our food inspired sessions: discussing the correct way how to cook a deer between our city boys and outlanders, or the inn/restaurant visits and not to forget: our Roc tasting session!
I think I'll just make sure all my chars have cooking proficiency when we're playing. just to make sure we cook up anything edible ...or rocs.

Very cozy Attic there.
It's a lovelely, colorful little room :D. Just large enough for me to shout at a camera.
Laughed out loud a couple of times, I love that you put some humour in your videos!
So this is basically the "Murry" build, but with extra stuff looked into for what can be done with it. I approve! =D
I was unaware with the term, when I made this video I just wanted to fudge the dice as much as possible as a player. If i redid the build today I would obviously also add Silvery Barbs to the list, that spell is an absolute gem for this build.
Oh in that case, look up the Animated Spellbook for "Murry". You basically presented that, but with more fluff to make the concept even more funny. ;p@@TheAtticDungeon.
I really enjoyed this episode. I'll be sent it off to my friends. Thank you!
Excellent build!
Nice info, I really like how you doubled down on the longevity as a major aspect of thinking how a player can roleplay an elf. I would also recommend - tentatively - a manga called Beyond Journey's End. I haven't read it so I can't actually completely back the suggestion, but everything about the reviews I've seen is intriguing. It about a group of adventurers who spend ten years actively defeating a demon king and then go their separate ways. After fifty years, the elf comes back and finds her friends have aged significantly or passed on, and one of the adventurers asks her to take his apprentice under her wing to teach the apprentice magic and about the world. The story supposedly revolves around the elf grieving, coming to grips with the mortality of the world around her, and dealing with the trauma of outliving loved ones and recognizing her position in the world. Another minor reference would be the original Highlander movie with Christopher Lambert, in which he confronts the aging and then loss of his wife. While this might not be pervasive across all or even most elves, this concept can certainly give the player a gravitas to latch onto when playing, a sense of darkness within the elf that creates emotional distance to anything non-elf. I always imagine elves and their study of anything sort of like the Japanese who make their life's work a mastery of nuance and immaculate detail. Like you mentioned, if they craft something, even it they think it's a bad creation it's still far beyond the capability of other shorter lived races since they can meditate and test and simply ponder over long periods of time the nature of their efforts. Good stuff here, though you really should play an elf at some point, maybe make your arc start off stereotypical with the haughtiness and looking down on the other races, then recognizing the beauty of your friends and the world, including it's faults and flaws. I like elves as a race but I tend to default to half-elf first with all my character starting choices, haha.
Thank you very much for the additional examples of struggling with longevity and the compliment! The manga sounds like a nice read. I might play an elf at some point, I always liked the Eladrin and their "changing with the seasons" gimmick.
I've got a needlessly complicated one: Tabaxi Fighter (Arcane Archer) X Ranger (Gloomstalker) 3 Wizard (War Magic) 2 Focus on trick arrows using Ensnaring Strike, Hail of Thorns, and some battlemaster Maneuvers (grab both the fighting style & the feat for 2 superiority dice ) With the wizard spells focus on utility and survivability. End result: Every arrow you shoot does something different, and if things start to get dicey you can get yourself out. I played this character for a little while, and his standard thing was to start every fight by climbing the nearest tree!
This is pretty fun lol.
First.
Artificers can use crossbows. There is an infusion called Repeater Shot.
True, but they are generally better off with longbow/shortbow since they can make bracers of archery later on and can slap the +2 infusion on the bow. Mind you that I ignore this info myself and play an arti with repeatershot on a musket 😃 Artificers can do pretty much any weapon build as a battle smith thanks to the infusions and some niche spells.
@@TheAtticDungeon. Thing is Artificers aren't proficient in the bow. They're proficient in the light crossbow. Mind you the Artillerist has some interesting ideas.
@@timjackson9334 The Battle Smith gains proficiency with Martial Weapons as part of their lvl 3 subclass features. And, arguably the Battle Smith is the only one who should be concernced with weapons. Armor Smith has a set of build in weapons that get buffed by subclass features.
@@TheAtticDungeon. At level 3. But what is the difference between a light crossbow and the longbow? Both have the same damage output.
@@timjackson9334 The longbow has greater range from the start, all other difference would mainly lie in the gameplay options afterwards: Crossbow needs the repeating shot infusion to profit from extra attack or the crossbow expert feat. if you take the feat you are limited to a +1 bonus since those infusions don't auto-upgrade at lvl 10. The crossbow expert feat does open other options as well and, if I remember correctly, eliminates your disadvantage penalty at point blank range. Bows kan always profit from extra attack, no feats/infusions needed. Hence you could take the normal +1 infusion for them which auto-upgrades to a +2 infusion at lvl 10, which is the same lvl that you can create Bracers of Archery for an dditional +2 damage. Pre-lvl 3 this al doesn't matter of course, you just fire the thing, which will have a +1 bonus, once and be done with it. They serve a similar purpose, being a long range bow user, but their specifics are quite a bit different.
This does sound like a fun character to play!
The fact that 5e combat usually only lasts a few turns makes this build appealing, I think.
Yes! Humans can RP practically anything! That's why I love playing as a human
People forget this and call them boring and generic...silly humans!
Props to you for making midgame level builds, giving room for personal touches and a way to get a good build within a reasonable level frame!
Thanks, I strive to make my stuff actually useable at the table, so no need for lvl 20 world shaper builds then. And I'm all the happier if people take what I present and edit it, no need to carbon copy!
Forgot to address one thing: at lvl 7 you gain the 3rd rune which allows you to hand out disadvantage or advantage as a reaction every round for 1 minute, resetting on a short rest. So on top of the potential +13 advantage Athletics check, you can give your target disadvantage. I think at that point, very few creatures will be able to escape your grubby little Dwarven hands.
