Harlem Nocturne, Hauptwerk Theatre Organ
'Harlem Nocturne' was composed by Earle Hagen (music) and Dick Rogers (lyrics) in 1939 for the Ray Noble orchestra, of which they were both members. Since that time it has probably been recorded by every major band and jazz soloist you could mention. My all time favourite version of this song is from Illinois Jacquet's 1956 album 'Swing's The Thing' (check it out if you don't know it) however I think I've only ever heard it recorded on Theatre Organ once which was by Simon Gledhill on his 1990 Castro Wurlitzer cd.
I guess my arrangement is a bit of a mixture of both of those recordings and is performed using Hauptwerk virtual organ software and the fabulous new Wurlitzer Opus 1680 sounds f...

The Spirit of Youth March, Hauptwerk Theatre Organ
Просмотров 1 тыс.4 года назад
This is a sample set that I've not recorded any clips on previously and thought it was about time that I did . . . the wonderful sounds of the Ryhope 3/9 Compton produced by Melotone Sound Productions. Whilst trying to think of a perfect piece to show off this organ I remembered this lively march 'The Spirit of Youth' written by C J Gilbert which I heard on a recording of the Compton organ at O...
London By Night, Hauptwerk Organ
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.4 года назад
It seems like such a long time since I uploaded anything new that I thought I'd start making a concerted effort to get something recorded. This is the beautiful ballad 'London By Night' composed in 1950 by Carroll Coates which went on to be a hit for Frank Sinatra in 1951/1952. This version is performed on my Hauptwerk-driven virtual theatre pipe organ and uses a selection of the Paramount 341 ...

This is a quick recording of "Parade Of The Sunbeams" written in 1935 by the popular theatre organist Quentin Maclean (1896-1962). This version is performed on my Hauptwerk-driven virtual pipe organ and uses a mixture of samples from the Redford 3/12 Barton and the Paramount 310 Wurlitzer. It's been a while since I posted anything new so here's a very quick (and off-the-cuff) rendition of 'Put On A Happy Face' written by Charles Strouse for the 1960 musical 'Bye Bye Birdie' with lyrics by Lee Adams and most famously sung by Dick Van Dyke in the 1963 film of the same name. As always, this is played live on my Hauptwerk virtual organ using the Paramount 341 Wurlitzer samples. For m...

Here's a quick rendition of Cole Porter's "I Concentrate On you" which was written for the 1940 film 'Broadway Melody of 1940' and has become a favourite of many great vocalists over the years. This version is performed, as usual, on my Hauptwerk-driven virtual pipe organ and uses samples from the Redford 3/12 Barton and the Paramount 310 Wurlitzer. Having played the Paramount 332 or 341 sample sets almost exclusively for 5 or 6 years I've been experimenting lately with organ samples from other companies including the Compton, Morton and Barton sample sets from Graham Goode at savirtualorgans. Russ Conway's China Tea, Hauptwerk Virtual Theatre Organ

As a bit of fun, and making good use of the tonal percussions and Chinese gong, here's my arrangement of the 1959 hit 'China Tea' composed by Trevor H. Stanford (Russ Conway) and recorded by Russ Conway (Trevor H. Stanford). Usually a piano piece of course, but it works well on theatre organ. As usual, this version is performed on my virtual organ console using Hauptwerk organ software and the ...
Anyone Can Whistle, Hauptwerk Virtual Theatre Organ
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.7 лет назад
The Stephen Sondheim song 'Anyone can whistle' was know to me solely from the Cleo Laine recording until I discovered it on organist Simon Gledhill's album 'Up, up and away'. Since recording my version I've also realised that there's a clip of it on the Paramount Organ Works website with Simon playing the Paramount 450. The story of the Show from which this title song comes is fascinating, havi...
Hauptwerk Virtual Theatre Organ, Ace of Hearts
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.7 лет назад
The syncopated pianist Billy Mayerl (1902-1959) was best know as a composer of light music having written over 300 piano solos including his 1927 hit 'Marigold'. 'Ace of Hearts' is taken from the 'Four Aces Suite' which was published in 1933. He also composed works for piano & orchestra, often in suites with evocative names such as the 'Aquarium Suite' (1937) but 'Four Aces' was probably his be...

It's been a couple of months since I posted any new videos so I thought I'd give this one a go. My first visit, but what a treat. I'll be back. Incidentally, I was led here by RUclips after listening to Russ C's original, having often watched him on Billy Cotton's Band Show, my mother being a huge fan. You certainly do the tune credit with this crisp, bouncy arrangement. I’m off now, to educate myself about this 'virtual' organ business.

Nicely done sir!! Like your system setup. Lot of dough invested (ROI being pleasure to play) ..but nothing like the pile of bones for an Allen!! The soft pad voice control, in my experience, works OK but obviously not as convenient as the cost-prohibitive moving stop rail (which tends to amount to more a human interface anyway). Personally i opt for the SOUND and you have it the paramount system. I designed a 5 manual console which includes 25 pistons per division. I totally rely on these for voice control. And likely as you've realized, IT SIMPLY IS SUFFICIENT....maybe more than one realizes. But EYE CANDY is a matter...just one of individual preference? Even so: expectations must be REALISTIC too.

Nicely done. The keyboard stack costs a fortune!!!! As you know, alternatives include MIDI conversion of old consoles (big downside is size and weight!) . Your stack is MUCH more portable I would think. And the midi ports are installed by the supplier of the keyboard stack. Pro's and con's of DIY VTPO!!! Thank you for your pres.
