Power Steering Gear Box Replacement On 2008 F250 Powerstroke 6.4 L ReadHead Gearbox
lighting hard to see
Good video, but the music was diving me a headache
you left out about half the job--nothing on pitman arm or the rubber seal on the lines or the alingment issues with steering shaft
did you not need to drain your fluid first?
what happens if i dont secure the steering wheel
Good video
I know you use a 18mm to tighten the hoses but, how did you tighten the inner one (the closet to the engine), I was able to tighten the outer because you have the room to put a open end wrench but that’s not the case for the other one,… so, what did you use or how did you do it?
Thank you some much for this video. I just got home from the dealership and they quoted me $1940 plus tax for the pump, fluid, alignment and labor. Not to bad really considering an OEM Motorcraft is about $1200. 👏👏👏 Thank you again.
How has that Redhead been working for you?
might need to do the same on my truck. was it a big improvement?
How long did it take you to take off and put back on all together
Putting mine in tomorrow
How is the steering box holding up now?
great video man, good work, i am curious however, i have an 08 f350 and was told by a few auto parts stores that there are 2 different ps gear boxes, which one did your truck use? apparently the difference is that the part that goes to the steering column either has a spline gear or a cylinder looking gear only.
AZ-MOTO it was a spline gear. Thanks for you comment. Sorry it took so long for the reply
if your 2008 350 was built before july 5-2007 takes a different steering box--look on drivers door for date--redhead shop only ones who knows this!!!
55 like I join your channel v nice
Hey Brad Can the gearbox be removed without dropping suspension on a stock truck ? Your truck is lifted
r1lukasz it shouldn’t be much different. The suspension never got in my way. You may just want to remove your tire for easier access through the wheel well
Thanks Brad. Very helpful stuff, esp captions with tool sizes, and video isn't overly long like some. How hard was it to get the Pitman arm off?
Chris topher it was actually really easy with a hammer. May need to use a puller though
What did the redhead gear box set you back? My 08 is leaking and lota slack in the wheel, so it's time for sure.
I did the extreme duty gear box for $746. With an additional $300 core charge
Does the red head have teeth on the end that connects to the steering column?
blacksmokinyfz450 it has spline type teeth that connect to the pitman arm. The part that connects to the steering column uses a bolt, no teeth.
Very good video, have not done this job before and was very helpful. Very informative. Don’t need to look up any more info
Hey Brad, how's it working? I'm curious, did this steering box have the same ratio as stock, or was changing the ratio even an option? I've always been bothered with the stock ratio in mine.
The ratio is the same. However all the slack is gone. Steering radius has not changed either. The red head gear box is just way more durable and can handle heavier tires. It still feels new after 5000 miles on and off road
Thanks Brad, good to know
I will be doing this same job on my 2008 F250 this coming weekend as well. I'm so glad that you made this video. I have been needing to replace my steering gear box for about 2 years now, and have searched the forums and looked for videos the whole time for information on how to get at one on a 6.4L. Now, thanks to you we have your video. Great Job! Thanks again.
No problem chase! Let me know if you run in to any issues
