Here in 2024 reminiscing right before we start our Copa America campaign. Hosting the world cup in 2026 I hope these type of things return. Soccer has grown a lot here since then, but we still have work to do! But it's moments like these that help grow the love of the sport here so I'm hoping some more memories are made in the next couple of years.

i grew up watching and wanting to be landon donovan. i remember seeing this goal when i was almost six years old, wearing my landon donovan jersey. my parents sat on the couch behind me (i was sitting on the floor) and when the goal was scored, i was just in pure awe as my parents cried and cheered in the background. it was in that moment that i realized that i wanted to be landon donovan growing up. as i got older, soccer became my life. i took it more seriously, i watched and studied donovan's moves, i tried to replicate his way of scoring, etc. throughout my years of playing, i even wore the #10 because of him. unfortunately, in 2020, i had to make the saddest decision of quitting soccer after 10 years of playing due to injuries and mental health issues that were plaguing me on and off the field. sometimes i regret quitting, sometimes i don't, but i always think about six year old me, sitting in front of the television watching this game. my life changed forever in that moment. some days i still dream of getting back into soccer and being like landon donovan. soccer changed my life as a whole, but honestly, if it wasn't for landon, i probably wouldn't be where i am today.
