Thanks for the feedback. You have a valid point, and I kind of expected that at least a few people would say this when I posted it. Because you’re right - every teacher has to start somewhere. And I certainly don’t begrudge anyone for getting started teaching music, whether it’s in group classes or private lessons. But while there will be the occasional rock star has a natural gift for teaching and will do a great job from the very start, that’s not true for most of us. The fact is that in the beginning, there’s a trial and error phase where a teacher is trying to find what works best, and then having to tweak that from student to student. This takes time. The student’s time, and the parents’ time. And time is money. Being able to bypass all that and get directly to solid results takes years of valuable experience with a lot of students. Does that mean that there’s never an instance where a newer teacher should be hired, or would be a good fit? Of course not. Perhaps I’ll do a video on that, too. But I will disagree with you on the point that this is only self-serving. I think considering a teacher’s experience level before hiring them serves the best interest of the student and the parent. As for the new teacher, yes they have to start somewhere, the struggle in the beginning is real, and if they are diligent that struggle will provide for them the growth and valuable experience that I’m talking about a few years down the road.
