    I had an "aha" moment watching your video. I couldn't understand why your jars were rotating so slowly, when by my calculations your drive bar is rotating at around 308 rpms? Then it dawned on me you actually have a second pulley system going with the diameter of your drive shaft and the diameter of your mill jar. Now I got it. This is a great build. The incorporation of the motor fan was a great tip. Thanks.

    Interesting video, but I was hoping I would learn the difference between the three types of blades, and I didn't. I wish you would more clearly say what is different between them.

    Dude. Thank you. I had given up on adapting a tile saw to cut slabs. I am picking up my 10" harbor freight saw right now. Same deal, used for one project... $100! I am jumping up and down! I also have a tumbler like yours, using a motor off an old band saw. Thanks for making this video.

    I might use something like this setup to slow down my current tumbler because its twice as fast as i think it should be in order to get nice results..

      Thanks! 👍 My friend has one thats the same dimensions that he got on amazon but the base is stone and the top is leather, made in china. This is just a mock up to approve the design. He has requested much nicer walnut than this, but it wanted to use walnut so he could visualize the end piece as he has select some highly figured claro walnut.

      Yes it will.... And it did. It just came off like 2 days later. I found some rubber hose that slid on the 3/4" steel real nice so it now has some thick rubber and it hasnt even started wearing and its been months now.

    I’m running one that uses a 1/8hp motor spinning a “40lbs” barrel with a loaded weight of 68.2lbs pulling only 3amp at 22rpm. The FLA is 3.5A. Did I mention the new Dayton TEFC motor runs at 40C… what is your amp draw and motor temp?

    • @rockhound_and_down
      @rockhound_and_down 4 месяца назад

      I think this motor is 3.2 amp 120v and 1.5 240v. I have outlets for both in my garage so i can use 240v. The temp never gets over 105*F on the hottest part of the motor. The rest of the motor is room temp. I do have a small fan on it but i dont think it needs it at all.

    Would making the 12" pulley smaller make it run faster? I'm looking for about 66 RPM...

    • @user-mj7uo7jc7q
      @user-mj7uo7jc7q 7 месяцев назад

      If I remember correctly you need the barrels to go something like 33, or 35 rpm, but you should verify that. There is a sweet spot to make them tumble. Too slow, and they slide, and too fast I think they break each other.

    • @stripedbassnut
      @stripedbassnut 7 месяцев назад

      @@user-mj7uo7jc7q I would be using them for something else besides rock tumbling...

      Makes it run slower. Running a little bigger pulley on the motor end will make it run faster. Either or...also, 66 rpms is too fast. Rocks can break.

    • @rockhound_and_down
      @rockhound_and_down 4 месяца назад

      yes. It would increase the rpm to go to a 8" pulley. These barrels are recommended for 22 rpm which is what the manufacture suggested for this diameter. The smaller barrels do need to go faster. 50 to 60 rpm is what my 3lb harbor freight spins at.

    You think 1 hp 1725 rpm motor is to much power?

    • @ianbottom7396
      @ianbottom7396 7 месяцев назад

      If you don’t need the extra power the cost of the power will quickly chew up any savings from not buying a smaller motor

    • @rockhound_and_down
      @rockhound_and_down 4 месяца назад

      I think the amp draw on a 1hp is too much. Its like 10amps i think. This 1/4hp is 3amps. Much cheaper to run and cheaper to buy. It will easily spin up to 12 of these barrels with zero effort.
