The Freddie touch of slightly changing the words from the original Smile version to.."makes HIS eyes light up when I would see him there," instead of "makes MY eyes light up when I would see him there." Lol. By Queen ll Freddie found his voice but these early recordings are treasures and a joy to listen to.

Freddie was still looking for his voice here... and i like to think that in 1970's shows, he singed Smile's song
It is well documented that Queen did play Smile songs during their first few years. After all, they were just a continuation of the same band, and they didn't have many original songs as Queen to fill up their setlists. They also played The Beatles and other rock and roll covers.
@@Alfonso162008 Umm, so why do we still not really have a setlist? And... The Beatles? Like what, Twist And Shout, Goodbye Old Brooklyn, Misery? And yeah, they totally played Smile songs- but maybe someday... SOMEDAY somebody will share us a setlist at least...
@@oliverafton1444 Idk, probably because no setlist from around that time has surfaced? The earliest surviving setlist that we know of (assuming that the person who sold that piece of paper is telling the truth) is from a March 1972 show, and they were all Queen songs, and covers they continued to play. We know that the band played Smile and Beatles songs previously because at least one of their first bassists (whose name I don't remember) have told about it in interviews in more recent years, but we don't know which songs they might have played (there are speculations among fans of them playing Rain, because Freddie played it with Wreckage, one of his previous bands, but other than that there are no other clues so far). Sorry if it's a very long comment, I like talking in detail 😅

It’s amazing to just hear Freddie play a piano cover without singing along to it. I imagined him playing this at a Queen concert and be like “Well everyone , as you I love playing the piano darlings. I thought I’d play you all an instrumental piano cover of one of my all time favourite songs. Please sing along to this song if it know it darlings, it’s your time to shine”

This version doesn't have the vocal harmonies of the chorus, for me the best part of the Smile version. And the bassline of the former is better. And I don't like too much the falsetto of Freddie in this one. It hurts to say, but Tim manages to do a better work in the vocals in this one.
Since News of the World in the summer of '78 I've loved Queen and I've only just heard this lovely piece.

Pretty sure it’s from garden lodge tapes could be wrong tho. Not much info on it unfortunately. Some people reckon it not even fred playing it! Sure u can find answers somewhere tho
I know he gave Jim a tape with Freddie playing his favorite songs , but it’s of course impossible to know if this is it. It’s incredibly beautiful though. I’d like to believe it’s Freddie playing.

One the last song’s recorded of Freddy.. right? Jim Hutton recorded this at their home before Freddy died,.. I could be wrong.
