Moral Panics
Просмотров 6632 года назад
Moral panics are public controversies over perceived breaches of cultural boundaries by some group that follow a surprisingly regular structure. Moral panics are rarely spontaneous; they are orchestrated by "moral entrepreneurs" such as politicians or other interested parties to direct what the public worries about and focuses on, creating "folk devils" for or against whom people are invited to...

I have exam in next two days, mine is self study, and I am so grateful to have come across your video , thank you so much .
Hi mark, do you have a specific pdf format about that?
Which of his books has this information?
It's in an essay entitled, "Closing Statement: Linguistics and Poetics", in Thomos Sebeok's book Style in Language (1960 John Wiley)
@@AnthroProf001 oh thank you. You put it much better than internet does
Damn, if only I’d remember half of what I learned in university 😅 don’t even know what use this pertains to in my job… damn piece of paper 😂
I'm sorry that you don't see how this applies to your life. One of the unfortunate problems in US culture has been the rising belief that the purpose of education is to prepare you for a job or a profession, rather than a career. Your major is not supposed to be your career. Among the Forbes top 100 CEOs, only 20 percent have undergraduate business degrees. Over 40 percent have BS or BA degrees in majors completely unrelated to their business management work. Goldman Sachs’ CEO, Lloyd Blankfein, has a degree in history. So does Bank of America’s Brian Moynihan. Anthem’s CEO, Gail Boudreaux, studied psychology/sociology. Both Nike’s Mark Parker and Target’s Brian Cornell received degrees in political science. Many of the business leaders I've spoken to fondly recall their things they learned in their anthropology courses to me. By exposing you to brilliant work in multiple fields, liberal arts education was created to teach you to read/hear/learn unfamiliar information, think about it critically and logically, synthesize it with what you already know, and be prepared to discuss it orally, in writing, and increasingly through digital media of various kinds regardless of the subject matter.
Ace.
Merci infiniment 🍒
il n'y a pas de quoi
Short, precise and in simple terms. keep up the amazing work.
Thank you
Sir got class done in hindi
Thank you🙏🙏 It is a great presentation.
Thank you
You said Hymes had described 6 steps for analysis of events. But I have also read somewhere that Hymes Described S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G model for such analysis which includes 8 steps. Which one is official or widely accepted?
Good question. The six step analytic model for speech events, and the speaking mnemonic, are two different things. What I am presenting here is Himes six steps for analyzing a speech event. The speaking mnemonic is a tool to help ethnographers pay attention to what is going on in a speech event while capturing the data that they will subsequently analyze.
This lecture slapped hard and you should be extremely proud. I'm currently taking ATH 175 at Miami and now I'm super excited for the rest of the course!
Can you discuss about Need for Advocacy:Is there one best way? This is under Section 8: Make Recommendations... Please
the very first thing to rethink is human uniqueness, which doesn't exist. Anthropologie should be about uniqueness but about connection with everything, because after all we are part of a much bigger picture.
That was explained soo perfectly! Thanks
Beautifully explained with the help of real life example. Thank you
Thank you for the kind words
This is great. what a practical summary
Do you have a sample of policy analysis report?
Y don't u focus on anthropology subjects matter
That's an interesting claim. What do you think constitutes anthropology subject matter?
will u comment on how anthro related to our current crises?

This gotconvoluted fast

What are the functions of Social Organization?
* Philosophical anthropology is an incredibly interesting topic imo. In my COMMUNITY section: "The human evolution process, an approach with modern philosophical anthropology as a basis" I reflect on the modern human species and its relation to energy transformation and space exploration. My basic question is, should the modern human species still be called an animal, or is it now (soon) so different concerning its behaviour that it doesn't make sense anymore ? An animal has a brain mainly to control its body functions, a modern human is more and more developing towards a brain in focus which needs a body to survive, air and food. This brain is constructed to not accept total randomness and luck for surviving in the solar system, it can by transforming energy (then being able to deflect medium sized asteroids, survive in severe ica age etc) and spreading out in the star system, affect its own probability for survival. Then it has abandoned the main principle animal world, randomness and luck concerning survival in the long run.
Antropologi mencakup berbagai macam hal yang berkaitan dengan ilmu kemanusiaan secara keseluruhan
Short and sweet!!! Why don’t profs do it this easy to comprehend 🤧

I don't have a specific citation I can offer, if that's what you are looking for. This is a standard model we've been teaching at Miami University for more than 15 years.

seems like we're 1 of the few who got this far lol far cry from his couple intros, needs to fix mic
what about our animal instinct? why wasn't mentioned in this video? its a major role in anthropology
Most anthropologists would argue that humans have very few "animal instincts" because almost all our behaviors are shaped by the learned, shared, symbolic and adaptive systems of meaning we call "culture." That topic is dealt with in the Introduction to Anthropology and What Is Culture lectures that are part of this same series.
One of the big problems in the world that has never been fully addressed is the practice of using skin color as a mean to differentiate honest and dishonest people; a belief going back at least to the Colonial era that has been left so inherently embodied in the beliefs of a large spectrum that they continue to use that as a sign of the stability of innocence. This is rooted in one-sided policy, where you are required to do something a particular way, but the downside is you could be blinded to another side, for every element of nature has two sides. In this case, using skin tone as a sign of morality is WRONG; skin tone is not a policy condition but one based on the nature of the Earth's climate, which is totally different; being darker-skinned is just a sign you're descended from people in warmer climates where the Sun's radiation baked the skin surface over time. The real question is judging people under individual terms. If one must establish a good policy of course you can emphasize with the perspective most relevant by inheritance, but you have to show an openness to another one and give fair consideration to that and not just assume the one important to you matters in all cases. Samuel F.
I agree. Race and racialization were spread by the European colonization process as part of its system of cultural domination and has become embedded in the modern world system in ways that shape intercultural relations in contemporary times. Race complicates policy formation and implementation in all kinds of subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Race is particularly a problem for policy implementation
