WHERE I'VE BEEN | Introducing Baby Charlie!
Hey guys, I've been away for a little while for a cute, cuddly (and noisy!) reason! Meet Baby Charlie and find out some of the things I have planned for this channel.
If you haven't been following along our journey, my name is Chloé and I have epilepsy. I live in New Zealand where I work as a primary school teacher with my husband, Mark who is also a teacher. Our son, Charlie, was born at the beginning of March. This is my journey navigating epilepsy with the pressures of teaching, pregnancy and motherhood.

I've been doing some research and it seems after your brain has that electrical storm it takes time to reset. Just like you unplug your cable box and plug it back in. It takes several minutes for the time to come back on and everything to reset so that your can use it again. Please..be patient with yourself. Your brain just had an electrical storm! Does it help if someone keep s reassuring you that you're alright, don't try to talk yet, just relax, give your brain a few minutes to reset?

Mine are like whenever I get complex partial ones it's like I am drawn into things like things seem to appear so much bigger around me, like words in a book etc. Magnifying effect sort of and horrible deja vu feeling from I don't know which past event like literally all the ambience around me changes and I get locked in that feeling and go blank and can't remember anything for quite some time later..

I had a car wreck 3 years ago and had a seizure after. Just last Friday at work I was having Deja vu (aura) feeling and before I left I fell to the ground apparently and had a seizure. I apparently asked for medicine but I don’t even remember that and I didn’t have a headache so idk why I asked for medicine. They said I was flaming at the mouth and not jerking violently just twitching. Not even sure about all this and what kind of seizure it was or if it’s epilepsy. I had another on the way to the hospital that day as well. But so happy this popped up on my recommended even tho it’s 3 years later. Thanks so much for explaining how you feel during them

I've had seizures since I was seven years old. I am sixty now. I haven't had a seizure in over thirty years but I do have auras maybe once a month. But that didn't stop my job from trying to fire me after eighteen years when upper management found out I had epilepsy. They tried to tell me that I was unfit for duty. This is the only time in fifty three years that I have felt the sting of prejudice because of my condition.

Thanks for being so descriptive in your explanation of how you feel when you have seizures. I work in a special needs school with children who have seizures who are non-verbal so it's really good to have maybe a little inkling of how they're feeling during after and before their seizures. Thank you

I have several different kinds of seizures. It feels like the list keep growing Nocturnal visual : I wake to a "vision" of colors or a pattern or spider imprinted on the ceiling It doesn't matter how dark it is. Right before I wake up it feels like there is something telling me to get away from this thing. I always scream, but the voice doesn't feel like mine. It feels far away. But, my husband can hear me everytime. As I come out of it, the imprint slowly fades. I also have distortion of body parts, such as a abnormally small arm. These always terrify me, but sometimes I can laugh about it later. Nocturnal complex partial? : I awake to my arm doing a writing motion and I can't make it stop. it lasts only a few seconds I feel my body tremble and I feel like I am being pulled down and then I go to sleep. No one has ever told me that they saw me have a tonic clonic with these. Focal Aware: Awful feelings of dread and a rollercoaster feeling in my stomach. One side of my body feels like it is trembling and it sometimes stays weaker on that side for hours. I also get confusion and dizziness and a "whoosh" feeling in my head. Sometimes these are preceded by a ringing in my ear or a feeling that something is "off" or I am forgetting something. Many times after these, my speech is slow and sometimes it is hard to remember words and I sometimes slur. Myoclonic: Starts with a sad feeling and then my body seems to trembling on one side like the engine of a car. The trembling gets stronger until my left arm doubles back from the shoulder blade and jerks forward as if I were going to throw a baseball. If I don't sit on my hands, my arms will flail. it can be very painful and most of the time happens in clusters. I am going into so much detail because maybe someone can relate. I have yet to find anyone who can relate to the nocturnal seizures I have. They sound crazy. Our brains can do weird things depending on which part the seizure occurs.

I'm trying to find someone explaining what Absence seizures feel like because I think I might be having them but I'm not sure because there's not much info on them other than spacing out and small movement. I have ADHD too but these feel different from my normal zone outs. These last like 20 seconds(i think idk I don't time it cause it happens random) my eyes go wide and everything gets bright and I feel like I can't move. I can still kinda think and I am conscious and aware and I can move slowly if I put in effort. Idk man.

Thank you so much for your videos. I’ve just had my first positive test after 8 years trying, IUI and IVF and I’m epileptic. I’m really worried because my seizures haven’t been properly controlled since I came off valproate before we started treatment. It’s comforting to see another woman who’s gone through this, and to know I’m not alone. You are so brave to have battled through all this. Congratulations on your beautiful son! A question for you: I think I could probably convince my employer to sign me off work quite early, and could take some unpaid leave before that, maybe from 10 weeks. I feel guilty doing it since in theory there’s nothing wrong with me, but I’m just frightened of having a seizure - I had a lot while going through IVF. And at the same time I feel like it’s tempting fate - if I take leave, will the universe say “screw you, idiot” and take the baby away? (I know that’s not logical but maybe you understand). Did you consider stopping work during pregnancy? Was it an option for you?

Hi, congratulations! I completely understand, I had a lot of anxiety throughout my pregnancy. For me, it was so worth taking leave early as it help ease the stress of having a seizure at work, and allowed me to rest before having bubs.

I've had epilepsy for 3 years. I'm 15 now, so I've had it since I was 12. I have tonic clonics and absences. Tonic Clonic: I don't normally get an aura, but this is what I feel like when I do have one. My vision will go in and out of focus. I'll have trouble paying attention. Sometimes I'll see colours floating across the sky, sometimes everything will turn into zigzags. Sometimes I'll feel really euphoric. Sometimes it's like a sinking feeling in my stomach, while my head is being pulled upwards. My speech will slur. I'll get a weird taste in my mouth, or I'll have a really weird scent in my nose. It feels as though my whole body is being dragged down. The next thing I know, I'm on the floor. I'm so disorientated. I don't even remember who I am, how old I am, my birthday, just easy things that I should definitely know. I can't speak. Just...EVERYTHING HURTS. I can't move. I'm so uncooperative. Sometimes I'll feel really sick, sometimes I'll be really hungry. I can't really eat, but it depends how badly I've bitten my tongue. I have a migraine. I'm exhausted and all I want to do is sleep. I'll be really dizzy and can't stand up or walk straight. Absence: Easily mistaken for daydreaming. It's like a blank stare. It feels as though someone has pressed the pause button and skipped a scene. It's unnerving. It makes classes a nightmare because I miss crucial pieces of information. Sometimes, I'm partially aware. Everything sounds like an echo/when you're at a pool and you go underwater. It feels kind of peaceful, like a dream. My vision goes blurry. I've got told off for not paying attention in class because of these, but whatever.
