Samoans were healthy and fit back in my days. The problem is that a lot of the fast food chains from America started coming to American Samoa. A lot of people started gaining weight and being unhealthy in Samoa. You remember everyone was living off the land and the ocean. Men and women were always working and active in chores and in sports. We lost our way.

You're right, westernization plays a big role in the obseity of many Polynesians. The food that was brought to Samoa are basically like drugs, high in corn syrup and very addicting. The best way to lose weight is too leave all carbs and refined sugar and stick to a high fat and high protein diet. Eating turkey tails and other fatty animal parts are actually quite healthy when you leave all the carbs and refined sugar outta your body.

Measina I enjoyed your sharing of your feelings on the Tatau. I totally agree with you on all of your points. Especially with your history with early collinizers. I was born and raised in Hawaii and have a mixed culture with my Hawaiian side being the most I feel close to. My Hawaiian ancestors suffered just as yours did with the influences of the early Haole like Captain cook. Hawaiians were forbidden in speaking their own language as well and with the prevaling Desiese the collinizers the Hawaiian population was decimated. I clicked on your video because I wanted to hear your views. I am considering getting a few tattoos to honor my hawaiian heritage and am researching it now.

Oh my, scrolling on YT and seen this!! Thats my nephew and my hubby and I brought him to this practice last Saturday when we were visiting Melbourne. My nephew only started a few months back and has learnt so much!! The tutor was so patient with him and the other young lady. Would definitely recommend anyone in the Melbourne region to join. Sooo good. Gutted that we've returned home and will miss out on their showcase next weekend!

Malo lava! I was just admiring your video and your explanation/thoughts on tatau, which I find that you did amazing on. Adding on, I just had a question involving tatau, so my uncle is Samoan and he recently got his pe’a done by his tufuga (Peter su’a sulu’ape) but I’ve been accepted by the family as they taught me from a young age, the history and ways of samoa. I was asked by the family to get my tualima/malu, but I didn’t want to come across as disrespectful. I knew I could never get the malu, for I believe that it is sacred and should only be for Samoan females/chiefs daughters. I was wanting your opinion on me getting a tualima as a person who is not of Samoan descent, any help or opinion would be helpful fa’amolemole & fa’afetai lava
