Covid Destroyed 70% of What Tim Keller & Others Built in NYC Church Planting in the Prev 35 Years
Jon Tyson, pastor of Church of the City in NYC, says that he estimates that 70% of what Tim Keller and others built in the previous 35 years in terms of New York City church plants was wiped away by Covid.
Note: The context of this clip appears to be church planting. Tim Keller's core Redeemer churches are still there, and the East Side congregation is constructing its own building.

My previous church taught husbands represents Christ and wives represents the Church. So men had to live up to Jesus (aka perfection) and wives had to live up to the Church (aka much lower bar). Any problem with the marriage was the man's fault because he is the "leader". All the men got reminded often how much they needed to change in order to be more like Jesus so they can serve they wives better. Of course we never achieved that lofty goal. But berating men is socially acceptable.

It is the behavior of Christians that made me leave the church. I cannot believe that God is leading this organization. Feminism and the feminist churches worship Satan. Satan is the voice that tells you to lie to yourself so that you can feel better. Most churches worship Satan in this sense, even if Satan is not a literal person. Most churches refuse to address female sin. I was sure when I was about to get married that I would only go to a church that would support me in my marriage. That excludes basically all of Protestantism. Practically speaking, the historical churches seem to be better, but I don't go to those because of more intellectual reasons.

I live 40 miles outside of NYC, and can verify that the NYC establishment has been migrating wholesale outside the city. Charting the housing market alone indicates this, but I see it in the deminished traffic that still has not returned to pre-Covid levels also. And given that Tim Keller and associates were trying to reach the establishment, the educated, the well-employed in NYC, when they left, so did the opportunity for ministry. NYC is a shell of what it has been, and law enforcement has also declined, including widespread permissiveness when it comes to political demonstrations and property damage from the same.

I think about how much nonsense economists come up with using GDP. Rent going up could theoretically mean more GDP. So what? What good for the commoner? There is a whole book written on the argument of a fake economy. Graeber calls his book "Bullshit Jobs." There was a concept called distributism, which took Catholic social teaching and discussed the flaws in megacorps buying houses or outsourcing everything. Maybe talk to Distributist Dave about his like of distributism. The monopolism system? Have a look at the people who named it "enshittification." Dissident right people suggested I read Burnham's Managerial Revolution. I loved it. He saw in the 1940s how the savings of economy of scale would not be passed on to us. Instead a bunch of MBA middlemen would get it all. I do auto repair. I help out people every once in a while. However, if they have a post bailout GM or Chrysler, I don't do a signle thing for them. If they have a tire ready to pop, I will pretend not to see. If I couldn't get paid what Chrysler automatic transmission guys get paid to screw up automatic transmissions, why should I be paid less to screw cars together right? Either everybody is bailed out or nobody is. The Japan VS China is in several ways flawed. China gets to make a bunch of crap, while having no safety devices and no smog devices on it. Japan had that hit the fan decades ago. There was no hiding the Minamata mercury spill. Another thing to consider is that many Japanese products sold here are built here. Well, they had things worth buying. The Nissan Hardbody was great. The Honda Accord was great. It was their own fault that the American car companies were in danger. Nobody at Toyota or Nissan put a gun to the head of GM and Chrysler exces and said "Keep screwing up cars or we shoot." What do Chinese firms make other than lame hastily made copies of decent things?

Too many Gen Z wipeouts and under planned and under attended plants for it not to become a failed strategy. With the downfall of Driscoll, the death of the conservative side of the emergent conversation, and the social capital lost in the failed resistance against national gay marriage the money for planting was diverted elsewhere.

The government church Pastors geld men . The institution of the government marriage license, which Pastors require for the solemnization of marriage, has effectively undermined the traditional concept of patriarchal marriage. This requirement, mandated by secular authorities, imposes legal regulations and obligations that supersede the biblical model of marriage. Firstly, it's important to note that there is no biblical mandate for pastors or clergy to perform marriage ceremonies. Marriage, as outlined in the Bible, is a covenantal union established before God and witnessed by the community. The role of religious leaders in marriage ceremonies evolved over time and varies among different Christian denominations, but it is not explicitly prescribed in Scripture. The introduction of the government marriage license introduced a secular legal framework into what was traditionally a spiritual and covenantal union. This license grants legal recognition to the marriage and confers certain rights and responsibilities upon the parties involved, as defined by civil law. In essence, it shifts the authority over marriage from the church to the state, undermining the spiritual significance of the union. Moreover, the requirement for a government marriage license imposes secular regulations that contradict and undermine biblical principles of marriage. For example, secular laws recognize divorce for reasons not sanctioned by Scripture, such as irreconcilable differences or no-fault grounds. Additionally, the legal definition of marriage extends beyond the biblical understanding of a union between one man and one woman to include homosexual marriage. The government marriage license made marriage egalitarian and patriarchy illegal. By mandating compliance with secular legal requirements, Pastors effectively surrender the spiritual authority and autonomy of marriage to the government. This undermines the biblical concept of patriarchal marriage, where the husband serves as the spiritual head of the household and the family operates under God's authority. In conclusion, the government marriage license required by Pastors for marriage ceremonies has legal and practical implications that extend beyond the spiritual realm. It introduced secular regulations and undermines the traditional patriarchal model of marriage established in Scripture. Christians must carefully consider the implications of such requirements and seek to uphold the biblical principles of marriage in the face of secular encroachment. Flee from any Pastor that requires government marriage license for marriage.

Very good interview. I didn't have the language or knowledge to understand what was happening to me during my formative Christian years (roughly 2009 to 2014 when I graduated college). Looking back it's very clear that all my Christian leaders and pastors were heavily influenced by new calvinism. I eventually deconstructed new calvinism / reformed theology altogether because I came to understand that reformed theology teaches works-based salvation but says it doesn't. I've remained a committed Christian otherwise in an independent church that has basically remained untouched by new calvinism (mercifully). It was very difficult to go through this doctrinal transformation which took something like 5 to 7 years to fully digest. But looking back now it's very clear to me that what made my struggle so intensely difficult was the "Gospel industrial complex"'s authority on drawing doctrinal boundaries. Many of my Christian friends and leaders essentially ostracized me for rejecting Perseverance of the Saints / Lordship Salvation. It was painful, but also very confusing. Thank you for your thoughts about how the New Calvinists positioned themselves as the de facto orthodox-determiners especially through their institutions. This has helped greatly in making sense of my interactions with past Christians whenever I would disagree with or even question reformed theology/Calvinism.
