Oh hell yes, very helpful thank you!
Thank you and you are very welcome! Hope it helps.
Nice introduction to Greenshift although may I recommend you skip the background music. Seems cumbersome that the core Gutenberg block settings aren't automatically aligned with Greenshift settings once defined. It's been almost a year - has that part changed?
Thanks for the valuable feedback. Yeah, I agree about the bg music. My new videos I am not adding music anymore, based on others feedback. This video is definitely old, in fact a few days after the video was published, more updates came out which made some of the video redundant. To be honest, as most of the video is based on using the Greenshift block theme, I have actually not used the GS block theme a lot so I am not really sure on how Greenshift interacts now with the core Gutenberg blocks, alhtough I don't think there was much connection anyway to begin with. I am trying (struggling) to keep up with Greenshift with its relentless releases of new features. Its getting much better all the time. Sorry I could not answer your question specifically. I need to jump back in to see where the block editor is at again. I am just used to using the Blocksy Pro theme which has been crucial for my dev stack. Hopefully that somehow helps. Thanks again for your comment and watching the video 🙂
Thank you very much for this great video. Could you please guide me, what is the DIV Container? What is it used for and what is the purpose of using this one as opposed to the other GS containers? Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Paul, I am new to Wordpress and designing my own site. I am not a developer. My requirement is for only the first 2 words of the post title to be shown whenever posts are fetched via a query builder. So when I use a query loop and it fetches the posts, only the first 2 words of the post title should be shown. Can you pls guide me on this? Thanks.
Hey @Whatreally123. Thanks for your message and welcome to WordPress. For your question, I am not sure how to go about doing that, as I assume you are using Greenshift query builder, is that correct? If so, then I put this into ChatGPT and it came out with this method. I have not tested this myself, so unsure if it will work. If it does not, I recommend to reach out to Greenshift support or post it up on the Greenshift Facebook group page. Here is the ChatGPT response: In Greenshift's block-based query loop, you can achieve showing only the first two words of a post title using custom code via a shortcode or custom block. Method: Using a Shortcode #### Add the following code to your theme’s functions.php file: #### function gs_first_two_words_title() { $title = get_the_title(); $words = explode(' ', $title); $first_two_words = array_slice($words, 0, 2); return implode(' ', $first_two_words); } add_shortcode('first_two_words', 'gs_first_two_words_title'); #### Use the Shortcode in the Query Loop Block #### In the Greenshift query loop builder, where you would normally insert the post title block, instead, insert a shortcode block and add [first_two_words]. This may or may not display only the first two words of the post title. Let me know how it goes and if it works.
ok but why should I use block patterns when a theme like Avada allows me to do this in seconds? Also, what if a clients wants to modify their page and have zero technical knowledge? I hope you give me your point of view. Thanks for the video
Hey, thanks for your questions. As you know, the purpose of the video is focused on how to build a plugin to store the Gutenberg block editor patterns for easy access later on or moving to other sites. I am not familiar with the Avada theme as I don't use it, however if that is part of your workflow and you enjoy using that, I encourage you to stay with what tools you wish to use. If a client has zero technical knowledge and wants to edit a page, it really comes back to how the handover process takes place. I always include recorded training sessions with my clients at handover, so they know the basics of page editing and this process seems to work well. The great thing I like about using Gutenberg, is it is a native experience for WordPress, there is no adding additional layers of UI and so my processes work best that way. Again, if using Avada is easier for you, then keep using it. That is the beautiful thing about WordPress, it has no limits and many tools can be used to facilitate any outcomes. I hope that helps answers your questions and thanks again for watching the video.
I followed the steps to create a full-width mega menu but it doesn't work on my end. Anything you think I missed?
Without knowing your full site setup it is hard to provide an answer to your specific question. If there is an issue with the Greenshift theme mega menu settings, I recommend to reach out to Greenshift support directly. Just make sure to let them know that the issue is you are having and what steps are leading you to see the issue.
Great idea, how's this going now that it's been a year?
Hey, thanks for checking out the video. This is still going great, even a year later. I am in the early stages of creating a plugin that has all the GSTemplate.com templates, so you could essentially get the plugin, install it and then get access to all the templates, rather than copy / pasting them one by one. Work in progress, like all things. Hope you are keeping well.
@@wpgeni sounds great! Well done.
Just a well-meant thought, I love the video, but the background music really does not help. Thanks for your work
Thanks for the bg music feedback. I'll definitely not be using that one again 🙂
If I set the slide to loop, it looks like the button values don't match. Do you have a way to fix it?
I think I understand what you mean. When I switch on the slide loop settings, the first image essentially moves to the second button (in my testing). I think this is a bug of the slider or maybe loop should not be used for this purpose. I wonder why you would want to have this set to loop, unless you are using it like a normal slider with arrows as well. If that is the case, I recommend reaching out to Greenshift support to ask them about it. Sorry I could not be any more help.
Wt heck is greenshift ? Plugin or what ? I just dived in without showing where what
Greenshift is a plugin. There is also a Full Site Editor (FSE) theme callled Greenshift by the same developer. Greenshift allows you you to create beautiful layouts using the WordPress Block Editor - Gutenberg. Hope that helps.
This video will show you how easy it is to build such a simple, yet effective mouse house over cards using Greenshift. I would love to know what you think of it in the comments below and I look forward to seeing what other types of cards that you create. All the best
This was the first greenshift tutorial I was able to follow without any struggle/problems. Great vid.
Thanks so much for letting me know. Glad to read that it helped you. If there is anything that you would like to see a video about regards to Greenshift, let me know. Thanks again :-)
Thank you
You are very welcome. Hope you enjoyed. More to come.
You are amazing 🥳. Really good tutorial, easy to follow step by step 😁. One thing I would love to change is using ease-in-out on the animation, makes the breathing feel less jarring and a lil' fluid. And a HUGE thanks for the shoutout ❤!
Thank you very much Lex. The beautiful thing about this is that it can be tailored to any specification that is needed. I agree with you that the breathing effect is a bit jarriing, but I did not want to spend another 30 mins on it, just wanted to get a base understanding across on what can be done and how to tweak etc. You are very welcome on the shoutout, you make excellent videos as well, so I felt it was prudent to tell more people about your work.
from Saudi Arabia ,we say thanks, we like you, keep going.
Thanks so much, that is very nice of you to say and it encourages me to keep making this type of content 🙂
Thanks, very nice tutorial. I would like to see some ideas how to use it, for some button effects like pulsing or shine effect with 3sec delay (not on hover), so it gabs some attention. - Not sure if it could be done without writing css.
Thank you. So that I understand you more clearly, you want the pulsing effect of the shapes to move when a button is clicked. Is that correct? If so, I would imagine that the Interaction Layers might be useful for that type of setup, although some experimentation would be needed. I am at the starting point of learning more about using Rive to create some interesting effects, such as on button click have something happen, like the example in the GS library of confetti flying out when a button is clicked. As you know, I only touch on the surface of what Greenshift can do and it is just a matter of experimenting the many different things you can do. The options are endless, which is both daunting and exciting.
This is a great tutorial about Greenshift animations. Thank you so much. Will be glad to see more of such videos )
Thanks very much 🙂I will certainly be creating more content like this and if you have anything you would like to see, let me know.
from Saudi Arabia , we say thanks. keep going
Thanks very much. Your comment inspires me.
Thank you so much for this great tutorial. I've followed it and the result is beautiful. Everything works fine except the animations for the menu items within the popup. There are a lot of other animations in my web page that work as expected but the Advanced Text block animations in the popup don't. And I can't really guess why? Any idea? Thank you!
Hey, sorry for the delayed reply. It may be an issue specific to your setup or a conflict with the animations. Its hard to say how to fix without seeing the issue or knowing what you have set for the animation settings. My suggestion is to put in a support ticket to Greenshift to ask them about your specific issue, if you have not already done so of course. Or pop it into the Greenshift group on Facebook, someone might be able to help you there.
Thank you for this video and opening Grenshift more
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching and hope you got something out of it.
Wow, cool feature.. Thank you very much for creating a video about it!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching and hope it helped you out!
Does the function only work with greenshift fse or also with any other theme?
This works with Greenshift block editor plugin, independent from the theme you choose, so you can build it with any theme, FSE or Classic.
why greenshift row instead of gutenberg default columns?
Good question. I have not tested this, should still work though, maybe. I am just used to using the Greenshift Row block plus I prefer the mobile responsive settings that are available with Greenshift structure blocks.
Thanks for this great starter video for Greenshift, it's been invaluable. It put a lot of things into proper perspective for me.
Thanks very much Darryl. It is awesome to read that you found it helpful. As you know, Greenshift is an always growing and changing plugin so even I find it hard to keep up sometimes, particularly with the latest updates. My aim is to simplify Greenshift as much as possible and with your feedback, it is certainly encouraging. Thanks again for taking the time to write your comment. It means a lot.
Another great and important video !🔥🔥🔥 ChatGPT provided me with a different code though... could you please paste you code here so it can be copied? thanks again for the video
Thank you for a great informative video It's a great help . Hope you cover more on the subject
Thanks so much @gillyc7353. I do plan to do more videos, so watch this space :-)
Awesome tutorial. Can you make a tutorial for Blocksy/kadence with Greenshift. I have all these and creating websites but not knowing any of these important fundamentals. Lol.
I hope the official team hires you instead of their current lousy instructors, unorganized features, weird voice and it actually puts many people off!
Hope you guys like this video. It's super easy to create a functions file for your block theme of choice. You can add any function into this file as you would in a classic theme. Looking forward to any questions that you might have. Have fun :-)
Great job, How do i auto play the slider from left to right?
Thanks for watching and for your comment. The Greenshift slider block settings have an option to switch on autoplay. You can set the speed and turn on loop for the slider to continue to loop through the slides. Hope that helps. Reach out if you have any more questions.
@@wpgeni Thanks for your reply, I enabled auto play and loop option but it animates from right to left direction. However, I want it to animate it reverse direction. Is there any way we can do that? You're doing a great job with these tutorials. Keep making more greenshift videos.
@@shanto_asif I would think that it would require additional to change the slide direction, but that is not in my skills level so it is best to reach out to Greenshift Support on that one.
VEry bad mic
Hey, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I gotta get my audio setup much better. Otherwise, I hope the video helped you out.
I am all in on block themes and I just stumbled across Greenshift. I love simple, efficient, clean layouts that focus on utility first. This seems to be the perfect theme for adding animations and more detail while still keeping things simple.
Welcome to the Greenshift family. You are gonna love it.
Does Greenshift have its own theme?
Yes it does. wordpress.org/themes/greenshift/
Nice video Can you pls make videos on woocommers with gs
Thank you. Thanks for the suggestion. I have added that to my to do list.
Am I the only one puzzled by the 1px top margin on the headings? :) Can you explain why?
Agh cool, was waiting for someone to ask me that question. So, in the old days before stylebook, when adding an GS advanced header block into the editor, it would add a margin to the top of it, it still does it, but you can now control that via the stylebook. The story is that on a few sites I built, I added 0px to the top margin of that block, instead of 1px. Greenshift was then updated several versions later and automatically stripped out the 0px top margin that I added in manually to all the Advanced header blocks, but any that I put a different value in, like 10px or something else, it retained that value. So I had to go through those few sites and redo all the top margins again. Sure I could have added the global styling it had at the time, but look at what is happening now, the old class / styling system is being removed. So, by putting 1px instead of 0px, if the ever the 0px input is stirpped out again in a future update, at least it will be retained. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for asking :🙂
Really nice video ! One thing about button : I saw that the button in footer still keeps his own styles. Is it a different kind of button, not affected by global GS styles ?
Thanks for the comment. The footer takes on the styling from GS even though it is a core button block, not a GS button block. It looks different on the backend, with a purple colour, but on the front end it takes on the GS button block styling, except for paddings. Since the latest V7.0 release, I am really just starting again to get my head around it all and was planning to do another video to cover the new features in, but yeah, got to spend some time playing with it some more. Thanks again for watching and for your comment 🙂
Hey #wpgeni can we get a complete blog website build using greenshift it's a request
Absolutely @iampgodara, I can do that. Is there any specific genre of blog that you want to see, or any type? I was thinking of doing a travel type blog build tutorial, would that be of interest to you or do you have another genre in mind?
@@wpgeni yes travel blog is great where people write about best things to do in [location] that would be great i know it's gonna be so work and big video but that guide gonna help in future because of FSE
Hey! Great video. I think it's probably the most necessary video to start using GreenShift. I don't know why the developers didn't make a video like this. Hope you could provide more videos, specially settings the basic things, that will help many current GS customers save time because current official video tutorials doesn't start from the basic and the topics are unorganized.
Thanks very much for your feedback Ricardo, it means a lot and I will certainly be making more videos related to Greenshift. I'll have to do another version of this video when GS V7.0 is released soon, which includes the Stylebook placement in the editor and also the variable styles as well. Stay tuned and keep smiling 🙂
Hi Team, thanks for checking out my latest video. I hope it helps and provides a good overview of how important it is to setup a basic foundation for your Greenshift powered website. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and any questions you have. Just remember we are all learning, including myself, so any feedback or corrections are always welcomed. Enjoy and see you in the comments.
Hi, thank you for your very informative video. I really enjoyed it. However, whenever I try to add the Nav Menu, I get a "This block has encountered an error an cannot be previewed. Would you happen to know how I can fix this?
Hey, my apologies I never got back to you on your comment. I would imagine you have found a solution, but just wanted to acknowledge that I saw your comment, but at the time did not have any solution. I hope you were able to find a solution to it.
@@wpgeni No, I gave up!! lol Thank you for your reply!
Thank you, Paul for the useful video! Please make some more :) BTW, it'll be good if you explain what are groups for? As well as some other elements. How to decide what exactly to use? Some elements have similar functions. Is there a difference between Sections and Groups? There are Rows, Columns... It's need to explain the right structure of a page, for newbies.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback Victor. TBH, I also am still getting my head around all the different layout elements (group, section, row, columns) and when and where best to use them. I personally just use Greenshift and the Greenshift FSE theme, I just use the row block and hardly use the group block, yet I saw Igor mention that we should still use the Group block in the page to keep the page margins consistent, I'm a seasoned user and I still confused about what to use and where. In this particular video, I just wanted to give a basic overview of the block editor, nothing too fancy as I have some clients that are just starting to use it and wanted some basic overview, hence why I made this one. Thanks again for your comment and for your feedback.
I watched tutorials on Greenshift channel and they use rows, sections, wrappers for the same things so, looks like they are also confused on how to use those widgets. I would love to understand when I must use them because for me it’s very clear in other builders like Bricks, Oxygen, Breakdance and Generate Blocks. A video tutorial explaining this is necessary. Hope you could do it.
@@RicardoCorai Thanks for your comment. From my understanding and continued learning, is you'll use a Container, but to not put a Row block inside it, but you can use a Row block and add a Container into it. The Section is a just a one column layout, you can't add columns to that block, its just a single column block. I guess at the end of the day, there is no hard and fast rule and will come down to how much you want to optimise your build time, which comes with time, playing around. Hope that is helpful, I may do a quick video on this subject as and when I get a grip on it as well.
Join me as I take you on a journey to overview the WordPress block editor experience. I'll show you how to add blocks and build out a fairly simple design using just the default WordPress blocks then leading into using a plugin to add additional block functionality. Hi there, this was a great video, however, I have done everything but my url is still being accessed even in incognito and after purging the cache... Would you be able to help?
Sorry for the delayed reply. Thanks for your comment. I am sorry, I don't provide support for plugins. I suggest to reach out to the plugin developer via the WordPress plugin repository as it would very much depend on your specific circumstances and they would be able to better provide that support to you. Hope it all works our for you and thanks again for watching this video.
Thanks for watching. Leave any questions below and thank you for supporting my channel with likes, shares and subscribing. More videos to come. Requests are also welcomed.

This was really cool to see. I’ve made some custom blocks with ACF for things like an Inline Notice and Pros / Cons list for posts. It has the benefit of being to edit the html for them when I want in the future but I have been wondering if I could get away with just creating patterns like this 🤔
