Thanks for this. I'm wanting an Celestron EDGE 8 and an AM3 but worried about the weight. I know this was a year ago so if you have any updates or advice I would appreciate it. Great looking rig.
AM3 supports 28lbs with counterweight. Here's my AstroBin showing examples with info: www.astrobin.com/users/BryanHudson/
I looked at your setup as I'm thinking of getting an AM3. How is it performing with the 8" SCT on it? It's the only apprehension I have with the AM3 and whether I should spend the additional $500 for the AM5N. Any insight would be appreciated. Clear Skies !
This video shows an example of the performance with my Celestron C8 on AM3. ruclips.net/video/aIhhlkXEb-k/видео.htmlsi=jPQe3XnUTXaj3o5V Works great! I would not put anything bigger on it. If you anticipate going with something like the Celestron 9.25 inch or bigger scopes, AM5N is the way to go.
@ Thanks I did see that one as well, but wonder if you were able to put it the test a few times over the last year and what the “real life” results were ?
@@BelgianTex My AstroBin gallery shows many results. I regularly use this rig. Details on images using C8 with AM3 are included: www.astrobin.com/users/BryanHudson/
How did your gti perform with this beast on it?
I never tried to mount it on SAGTI. It's too heavy for that mount
Does the celestron c8 require a back focus without the focal reducer?
There's no specific back focus without the reducer. However, it does require extra extension tubes to achieve focus.
@@VisionCommunications thank you I have been struggling to take images and I believe this is my issue
Beautiful presentation. I just started out and I appreciate the information. I too use my M2 Macbook Air 15" as well as my iPhone to connected to Asiair. It was interesting to discover that it allows multiple connections.
Thank you for checking out the video!
I have an am3 too. Do you think it can handle a 9.25? It would bring it right to the max
Honestly, I don't know. However, I would not use AM3 with Celestron 9.25
How might I set up a laser like that? Is something you put together or something bought together? Thanks
Something I put together from parts I already had
What settings did you used? Auto setting or Manual settings? Do share please...
Thanks for watching. I do not remember the settings as I did this video sometime ago.
Does it support to iPad Air m2
That's a good question. Unfortunately, I don't know.
Thank you for your vlog. I am at a crossroad, buy a Celestron AVX or save up for a ZWO AM5N. However, watching your vlog gives me another avenue to research, AM3. Have you taken your AM3 and C8 and imaged the sky's hidden wonders?
I am 100% mobile so I need a portable rig. AM3 is great! My only concern is if I ever need service, I've heard that ZWO customer service is not good. Here's my gallery on AstroBin: www.astrobin.com/users/BryanHudson/
Save up and buy the AM3 or 5. I started with an AVX abd now use only my AM5. You'll have no regrets.
Does it magnetically attach to the side & wirelessly charge with a M4 iPad Pro 11"?
It magnetically attaches to the top, but it does not charge. It comes with a separate charger.
@VisionCommunications thank you for letting me know. I just picked up 11 inch iPad Pro today. I’m looking for a stylus but no way am I paying the ridiculous amount Apple is charging for the Apple Pencil…
Bro Plz Suggest me does it work with an iPad m4 pro? @@AliKazi How can I charge this pen?
@@arnabde7905 sorry my brother I didn't buy the ESR stylus
What tool are you using for Narrobband Normalisation? I don't see this tool in my Pixinsight?
Narrowband Normalization is in the Color Calibration folder. Part of newer versions of PI.
Warning: ZWO support doesn't exists. Your warranty means nothing. My AM5 has major mechanical problems. ZWO has ghosted me after the initial "try this, try that " emails.
ZWO's customer service is awful. That is certainly well-known, I just hope that all my gear continues to work. I dread today when I need customer service.
Do watch @astronomydoc
Thank you for this video. I have an 8SE. Like so many others I'm done with my AVX mount and AA+. No slewing during PA, mount keeps dropping, etc. Was looking to move to a new mount and this looks like the one I'm getting. Clear skies to you.
ZWO AM3 is a great mount. Supports up to 28 pounds
Wunderschöne Bilder, fantastisches Video 👍👌
Hi Sir. do you have an idea if what size of an apple pencil it is like? So i can buy a pencil sleeve for that esr pen. Most sleeves only have variants forcthe apple pencil ones.
This $25 product is not really worth any accessories. It does magnetically attach to the top of the iPad.
@@VisionCommunications basically its for ease and comfort while writing and not for protection 😅
Does it work with iPad Air m2
It's a good question, but unfortunately I don't know for sure.
Get Stellarium fam. Using the asi air is cool but stellarium is free and one of the best planning tools I have used. Clear skies!
I always use Stellarium to do my research for targets and to know its position in the night sky for a given day. Also use it to determine the moon phase and its location. Once I've identified targets, I put the target identifier into ASIAir to point my scope to the target, plates solve, do imaging, stacking, and export the FIT file for processing in Pixinsight. I am aware that Stellarium can also control the mount, but I prefer the wireless connectivity and seamless integration of ASI air.
@@VisionCommunications I agree. I use stellarium for planning and framing as well but my REAL action takes place using the asi air. I have an asi air on each of my 5 scopes and I love using them minus the connectivity issues with WiFi.
Thank you for posting and naming the galaxies and the Nebulae..
Thanks! Details about each shot are at my AstroBin gallery. Link in the description
Beautiful pictures. can i ask you how you have made the video (witch software) iets very nice. compliment to you, for make it.
Thanks! I used Apple Final Cut Pro
How beautiful!
Thank you Jan!
@@VisionCommunications You're welcome! 😊

How strong is the magnet when you attach it to iPad M4 Pro? I’d out string enough?
And does it charge magnetically??
@@kavishbhoriwal1957 The magnet is strong enough to stay attached to the top of iPad, but can be jarred off like Apple Pencil. It does not charge inductively.
Nice presentation. I also have the Am3. I run at about 12 pounds no but was thinking about the Celestron c9.25 which would bring me right to its capacity. Should I get a more hefty mount or give it a shot. I do use counter weights.
I don't plan to use anything bigger than C8. With counterweight, AM3 payload is 28 pounds. I mistakenly said 23 pounds in the video.
does it support 10th gen ipad?
This is the latest iPad M4
Thanks for the video. Exactly the info I was looking for regarding the AM3 and C8.
@@nathanmay3658 Thanks for checking it out!
Wow!
Nicely done and described - get the Seti Astro and Tool Box utilities for PI - the combine and selective scripts work wonderfully…
Thanks, but my objective is simplicity and time savings.
Have you run your PA on the ASIAir after using the laser to polar align? Just for comparison? I can see that getting your scope(s) assembly and the laser assemblies to match each other's alignment would be difficult.
I only use the laser for polar alignment. Aligning the laser with the mount is not as difficult as it seems. Actually, ASI PA is not better. I did a laser alignment followed by ASI PA and verified that reality. Plate solving and guiding corrects for small errors of polar alignment whether using the laser or ASI PA. I've been using this method for many months, and my guiding is always .70 or better.
Any problems with connectivity issues? Some reviews on Amazon were complaining on this issue. Have you found this to be true with your experience? Thanks
I haven't had any connectivity issues.
@@VisionCommunications there are two versions on Amazon. Do you know the difference between the two? The other one has a USB C connection port on the pencil. Is that the older version?
What is the biggest Newtonian telescope can you put on this mount?
Just now seeing this question. It supports up to 28 pounds
Fantastic presentation. Thank you for teaching a newbie
Thank you for taking the time to check it out!

Very interesting… thank you for posting.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality.
Can it draw though? And does the ipad register your finger while you're drawing/writing with the stylus
You can draw with it but there is no varying of width or pressure sensitivity, so it's no good for artistic level drawing. As I tried to say, it's just a stylus for selecting and moving items around on the screen. It can do handwriting recognition, which is something else I don't need. At $26, it is good for what it is good for, which is very little! :-)
Hmmm, I am debating between the AM3 vs the AM5. Do you have any issues providing the power to the mount from the ASIair? I understand that the AM5 has a 12V output but not the AM3? My CEM70 has power outputs on the saddle.
Thank you for viewing and commenting. AM3 doesn't have a power output. I send 12Volt power from my battery bank to ASIAir Plus. From there power is sent to the mount, to my camera, and the USBC connections. Works flawlessly with no problems.
Did you consider the AM5 vs the AM3 and what made you go with the AM3 ?
Thanks for the question! I like the size and weight of AM3, and I'm not going to put anything on it bigger than my Celestron C8 rig. It also easily fits to into my carry on bag for flights with other gear. It wasn't a matter of money. I can afford any mount that I wanted.
Great and helpful video! Subscribed for future content. Any chance you can add links / names of items used in the description?
Thanks! I'm not quite a full service RUclipsr! :-) You can Google every item brand that I mentioned or showed on the screen. The laser is something I put together from parts I already had.
Beautiful flight! I am totally impressed with the clarity and colors!
Thanks for viewing!
have u or anyone tested a C8 in field with AM3? how r the results?
I use it all the time with excellent outcomes. Here is my gallery on AstroBin. You can look at the descriptions to see when the C8 was used with AM3. www.astrobin.com/users/BryanHudson/
@@VisionCommunications wow thank you for the reassurance. i was contemplating if i shd go for AM5. do u use counterweights?
what is your guiding setup?
@@sreeshab4093 guiding is done through ASIAir using the ASI120MC-S Camera
@@sreeshab4093 I don't need the counterweight because rig is under the payload limit. I show it here to make people feel more comfortable!😊
Hi, I have recently acquired a similar setup (AM3, C8 EdgeHD, Evoguide 50ED and the ASI2600MC as the main camera and ASI462MC as the guide camera). This takes my set up just a little over 10kg. My only issue is that I am close to the equator (4° lat) and my counterweight is too close to the piere extension. Your counterweight looks like it could be a posible solution. Could you share where you got it, and how much it weighs? Thank you for sharing your video.
Thank you for viewing! I used the counterweight rod from a different Astro mount. I used this counter weight which is for a microphone stand boom: a.co/d/e1fCo5d You can get counterweight rods from Agena Astro. Just make sure it's the correct thread size agenaastro.com/catalog/product/view/id/10164/s/ioptron-counterweight-shaft-for-hem27-mount-8456sl/ I'm also aware that the mount has a setting where you can adjust it if you're close to the equator. It's in the manual and they have supplied in Allen wrench to make that adjustment
@@VisionCommunications thank you. I have the counterweight rod but just need the right counterweight without hitting the tripod. I think you can adjust the mount with the wrench for latitudes from 45° - 90°, but I have the opposite problem with a low latitude of 4° 😅
Thank you. Your video helped me make the decision on this purchase.
Another great video Bryan. I've recently setup my 8" SCT on a second AM5 but haven't imaged yet. My set-up looks similar to yours with the Celestron focus reducer and T-adapter, ZWO spacers (or OAG and filter drawer) and then the ASI camera to get the 105mm back focus. I also use the ASIAIR Pro. What I can't find any where is how to frame images with this setup when everything is threaded connections and you have to maintain the back focus. I'm used to my two refractors (Redcat 51 and Askar V) that have the rotators that allow me to frame images with the camera. How do you frame with this threaded SCT setup? Something like the California nebula for example definitely needs framing or you'll miss part of it. Thanks for any expertise you can offer.
Thank you! I use plate solving to do the framing. There is something called "auto centering" within the ASIAIR app. After using to Goto function, auto centering will frame up the target using plate solving.
Bryan - I agree that the narration (including voice) and pace were excellent. Love all the equipment you own (jelly) and you're quite knowledgeable. I checked out your online images - you are fantastic! I am surprised that you have the 8" SCT on the AM3 and it still tracks well. Thumbs up! I just got a second AM5 to put my 8" on but haven't used it yet to see how it tracks (still messing with focusing the OAG). I was concerned about the weight on the AM5 but you have me feeling better since you're on the AM3. Thanks for showing the simulation using the AA. I've been using other means but AA would be better because I could get the framing camera rotation set-up prior to the imaging night. It would be great if AA allowed date/time changes for the simulation.
My Celestron C8 rig is well under the payload capacity AM3. It would be nice to change the date in order to do simulations based upon the time of day preferred.
Very nice!!!
Great video and thank you. Did you have any tech issues with either AM3, 533MC or ASI AIR? I am planning a full kit upgrade to these three and your feedback will be very useful. Amazing images on Astrobin by the way.
I've had no tech issues with my ZWO gear so far. Hoping I don't have any problems because I've heard that ZWO customer service is terrible! Thanks for checking out my AstroBin gallery!
@@VisionCommunications That's quite reassuring. Thank you and have a Happy Easter.
Hello. How do you fix the Asiair on the AM3 mount? Do you have a link? Thanks!!
There is a mounting point on the saddle of AM3. You can see it looking at a close-up of AM3. Perhaps look at product literature
Great video. Just got my AM3, Tripod and PE200 Pier in. These mounts are made with great quality. I'm debating on whether to mount the guide cam on the side of the saddle or in the hot shoe (still using a ML camera for now) of the camera. The air will go where the guide cam doesn't.
You certainly have options. I've mounted mine on the saddle so I can more easily swap out different telescopes and lenses.
Yes we do! @@VisionCommunications
