It is time, we need to start growing our own food and use what we have if we don't have a lot of resources. I have created this series, which you will find in my playlist: "Growing Food Now For Beginners Series." Let's build a community to help each other, encourage each other, and find resources. We can learn from each other to thrive and get what we need to feed our family. I know you can do this, and I am here to help you with what I can. It does not matter how little you know about gardening, you can grow food. Here is the link to the playlist I will be saving the videos in; ruclips.net/video/qOEeuBFF_0I/видео.htmlsi=lmGvP-G7twGv1Xti. Ask any questions, and I will answer them in future videos. I have added other resource videos to the description to get you going, the time to get going is now.

Loved this video. Confirmed so many things I’m doing right and wrong. Question: I’m in SoCal 9b. I leave my 10 dahlia tubers in the ground. We’ve had virtually no rain so far this winter. Come Spring when the ground warms up is there anything I should do to check up on them in the ground? Or do I do nothing and wait for them to pop through the soil. Thank you. Love following you.

Hi Monica! Thank you the kind comment, I am so happy it helped you. All you have to do is give them some good, they will wake up super hungry. I use Osmocote. But any slow release flower fertilizer will work. I also add a layer of fish compost to give an extra boost.

Shade cloth is my friend. Some of the dahlias that have survived are Kelvin Floodlight. Arabian Night. Linda’s Baby. Wizard of Oz. Bashful. Thomas Edison. I’m hoping many of them will bounce back next week when this heat wave moves on. Love your channel especially the video on how to divide dahlias. Thank you and keep the videos coming.

All of a sudden the weather has changed again and it is so nice out and will be as far as we can see in the future. How is your garden doing? I love that I have a little more time to enjoy the garden. If you would like to see some of the seeds I started indoors this year, watch ruclips.net/video/HwZEqd6ft7Q/видео.html.

I got mine locally, but I have seen them being sold online. Look for Solanum crispum "Glasnevin". Enjoy your new plant! You will love it!

It has begun raining nonstop this whole week and it is pretty chilly. But it is finally changing this week, and it is getting a little warmer and sunnier. I am so relieved that Fall is not here yet, we need more time to be able to harvest our tomatoes and beans. I am so grateful that at least the storm did not damage anything too badly and the plants are still producing. The salad greens are now in place and bok choy, carrots, and radishes are next. What are you working on in the garden right now?

I never heard of this disease. I'm sorry you are losing your boxwood.

Hi! Thank you so much. I had not heard of it either. I wish I had, then I would have chosen a different evergreen. I guess we learn more from our failures.😊

I have had boxwood in my old house for 20 years and 12 years here. We never had a problem. I'm wondering if it's the overwatering. I feel horrible for you. What a bummer 😕 😮

That is so good, so glad yours is doing so well. They told me they have had a few people before me coming to get new plants because of the same thing here. They think it is because we have had such a wet 2 winters that the virus wakes up. It is such a bummer… 😟

I wish I had known about this plant disease, but things happen for a reason. I love the look of the area even more now, and it is less maintenance. If you want to see how I created a cozy garden and added privacy watch this video: ruclips.net/video/47D59KSKp8k/видео.htmlsi=BirYciaUvaLOV8y-

I would love to know what variety of tomatoe you grew? I grew two types, they ended up with super small fruit, horrible flavor, and not even close to real tomatoes, when I saw yours I was like "Wow, there are small bushes that grow real fruit!!: I'm trying to down size and make great choices! You have a beautiful garden, God bless you and may blessings abound your life! Caroline

Hi Caroline! Thank you so much for the kind words, watching and commenting. I love to hear what you are up to in the garden. The small tomatoes in the greenstak are Tiny Tim tomatoes. They really have produced so much! The larger tomatoes are, orange accordion tomatoes, I grow them every year and they are delicious. The other two are genovese costolutto and green giant. First time growing both. Can’t wait to try taste them! I am so happy you enjoyed the garden. Have an amazing week in the garden! 🪴

I spend much of my spare time watching dahlia videos on You Tube. This is my second year of attempting to grow enough to at least enjoy a bouquet from my own small garden. I have moving north from south eastern Florida to Alberta, Canada which is zone three. Last year I grew Thomas Edison from a Wal-Mart tuber, also I grew moonflowers from seed. They both were devastated by spider mites. This year I ordered a dozen different tubers from a BC nursery. Tubers sell out very fast up here so I had little to choose from. I am growing them in grow bags this year on my upstairs balcony hoping to avoid pests, especially spider mites. I am sitting up here watching your channel with awe and I admit a great deal of jealousy😩. God has made dahlias flawless but he has given you talent. I have never seen such an aesthetically pleasing garden. Your choice of complimentary plants/flowers, arrangements and ability to photograph them is both eloquent and expressive. I really enjoyed seeing your little garden, I feel better. My little garden is again being attacked by spider mites I was feeling defeated. I had so much hope, I was excited to see blooms instead I saw those little monsters. Your video gave me some inspiration. I will fight back. I hope I’ve caught them early enough. I won’t use pesticides that harm our pollinators so I better get to work. I liked and subscribed. Thank you for sharing. I will continue to watch….Kerry

Hi Kerry! It is so nice to meet you and get to know you through such a lovely comment. I want to thank you so much for such kind words about the garden, she is my brother, my grandmother, and everyone I have loved throughout my life, in one little space. I call it my space with the largest beating heart. But I want to share with you how sorry I am that you are struggling with pests. Dahlias are easy to grow, but at the same time, like many flowers, a lot can go wrong. Know that I struggle in the garden many times, it is part of my journey and learning. I think I learn the most when things go wrong than when they go just perfect. I wish we lived near each other and I would share with you my tubers and try to help you. I understand not using pesticides, but I also try never to use any. Right now I have lost two boxwoods in my garden to a virus and it made me a little sad. But now I know so much more about them. I try to share the good and the bad, maybe I need to do more of the struggles. You have given me so much insight in your comment and I am so grateful. I lived in Florida many years ago and when I moved to Georgia I also grew moonflowers. They were so beautiful! Please keep believing and enjoy each step of your journey, you will have the most beautiful dahlias one day. Keep the dahlia plant clean of leaves on the bottom 6 inches and remove any extra stems. I leave only 3 stems so that plants can have air circulation and the energy can be directed to making flowers and not growing a ton of stems. If you are growing them against a wall, move them away from the wall to allow airflow. It also helps prevent pests and powdery mildew. I hope this helps you in some way. I lost so many dahlias this past winter that were left on the ground. But they were loved and new ones are being tested this year. Have a beautiful gardening weekend! Melba
