He never said it would be easy following Him, that also goes in reading and pondering upon His Words. However, never be disheartened because the race is long and arduous. He became a mortal man to show that what ever pain or suffering you may face, it will still never be as painful as His suffering when He was ridiculed, mocked, flagged, beaten, bled and died for. We should be grateful that at some point the world (the devil) sees us as its enemy that it made us experience just a bit of the suffering He endured for us. Never lose heart, He suffered more than that yet he faced and accepted it for you and me. Reading the Bible is indeed lengthy, if all one would do is read it. However, pondering and reading it as though He is conversing with you makes it endearing and heart-warming. The more one is immersing oneself in His words, the more one begins to understand - in His time - those words. As one grows in Him, the more one begins to understand how great He is.

To answer your question at 4:58: Back then, people saw justice as affecting whole families, not just individuals. The psalmist isn’t attacking kids but asking God to handle things fairly. In the end, he trusts God to decide, not taking revenge himself. I am actually shocked that you are not Christian, maybe you will change your mind after you finished the Bible. I was an atheist for a long time and found God when I needed him the most, depressed, unwilling to change and addicted. In the deepest depths of misery, I found a spark of light.
