broken arbor intro
This clock will push my repair skills a bit further! The hands had broken off because It has a broken main wheel arbor. This needs to be repaired as there are no spare parts available for a clock of this age! My friend had got it looked at a clock repair shop but was told that it was not repairable so this will be a challenge for me as I've not repaired an arbor before! There are many videos showing arbor pivot repairs but not broken arbor repairs, so hopefully you will find these videos interesting!!

The long case clock has a weak pendulum swing due to a worn escapement, so this video examines the clock pallets and shows a method of refacing the clock pallets. A grandfather clock that I had serviced 2 years ago stopped ticking, why? It should have been good to go for another 2 to 3 years before it needed a service, so I was puzzled to why it now stops after a few seconds! So I took the movement back to the workshop to investigate further.
