Basic pass protections that modern offenses use. Focus on big on big, slide, and combo coverages. I discuss basic strengths and weaknesses of each. This video will be cited in a future video when I discuss modern pressures.

Why has nobody made videos the last 3 years about how great the Saban defense has been? Their highest defensive ranking has been 8th, but they were barely in the top 20 in 2023 and 2021 with Ball State, where I played, ranked higher last year. Michigan certainly knew how to beat the Alabama Defense and it wasn't that difficult. OR maybe NIL broke Alabama because they were recruiting players who wanted to get paid unlike Michigan who turned away players who talked about NIL money, at least up front.
Love the content. Need some more for the offseason plz
I am sure I have heard your voice in Karl Scott's cover 7 clinic, good job coach!
Go cocks
Great stuff - Appreciate this breakdown.
do one of kirby’s
Tom Brady went to Michigan!,
That was a really simple yet good explanation. Thanks.
Cover 7 and what? Couldn't make out what you said after cover 7 when you were talking about Saban's "babies"
“Rip” & “Liz” meaning the adjustment to the strong side of the offense.
Rip, Liz = Right, Left
Shaun King was the Tulane Quarterback in 1998 but this was a very good report!!
MOD means Man on anything Outside or Deep.
deep
On MOD the corner also takes outside breaking, right?
If you mean outside breaking from 2 It would be the star, and if the back or backside players cross the LBs face they would add in.
I think one of the easiest ways to explain just the gist of the whole Parrern Matching defense and concepts within. Is to just tell people it is the defensive version of the old Mouse Davis Run & Shoot. In THAT both systems are based on a lot of reading and reacting. But also in a lot of detail. Ala the tags and such. I LOVE watching coaches talk concepts. Whether from an Offensive point of view or a Defensive point of view. There are so many counters to counters. It ultimately comes down to player smarts and coaches preparing their players on either side of the ball week in and week out. And yes even, Year in and Year out.
The easiest description is that it is a complex version of man-oriented zone. It uses the basic MOZ concept of #receivers + 1 on each side of the field and the orientation of the defenders then depends on both the number of receivers and the types of routes they are running.
Thanks! Can't wait to watch!!
