Retirement Ain't Easy
США
Добавлен 21 авг 2020
I'm retired. I retired on December 31, 2023. I enjoy RUclips, listening to my vinyl records and CDs, playing and recording music - @chucksturgeonmusic - in my home studio, putting together plastic models, reading books and comic books, and fishing with my grandkids. Retirement Ain't Easy but it beats working. I'm enjoying retirement.

Thanks Chuck..I just subbed your channel..this is awesome…thank you👍❤glen
Great story, music brings back the memories especially as we get older. Very good live album
Cool story. Sounds like a couple of excellent summers.
Hey Chuck! Oh man.. what a year 1975 was indeed. I am happy to have most of these and couldn't agree more. So many classics and I love the classic variety too. It's been fun watching people talk about these years and what was going on in their lives at the time. You're officially entered into the contest - thanks so much, and happy 1 year to you as well!
Hey Chuck! Alice and GFR are great picks! Cheers! I bought my first CD player in 84 or 85, and at that point it cost more than the mortgage payment I has at the time. Cheers!
thanks for the comment. Yeah I remember getting my JVC CD player and the wife giving me the look.
Fun fact, my first concert was Buck Owens and Roy Clark. I think I also got my first CD player in 89. I couldn’t afford one before that. I had a single player because they were cheap as they were launching the multi disc players.
thanks for the comment. Roy Clark is a guitar master that many rock guitarist don't know about.
Merry Christmas 👍🏼🇺🇸
You too, thanks for watching.
Chuck, loved your channel name, I just tried to retire but my son bought a business so I’m back to working again. At least it’s better than working corporate America, that was becoming a drag. Loot of great 70s music. I’ll drop my tag in 2025. Look forward to your next video.
thanks for the comment. yeah retirement ain't easy but it beats working. I'll be looking for your 2025 vinyl tag.
Great picks! I also nabbed the That Thing You Do Soundtrack! Awesome movie! Heavy Metal is awesome! Love Rocky Horror! I have that same 7" Bill & Ted. I hope they will eventually re-release the Bogus Journey soundtrack! I also have that Saturday Morning Cartoons. Mel Brooks is always a good choice for anything! Great soundtrack History Of The World! Snake Plisskin? I thought he was dead. LOL. Thanx for playing along and great choices! Happy Holidays to you!
thanks for the comment. happy holidays to you!
Hey Chuck! I am VC, but also recently retired. I'm not enjoying it as I am not cutout for retirement. I'll get into that in my first video on Jan 1. I, like you, a huge fan of GFR! In 87 I got Mark Farner to sign my copy of the Red album. I saw Angel in 76 and the bass player passed out on stage. Saw the Tubes on Halloween 1975. Cheers!
thanks for the comment. I wish I had seen Angel back in the day. The Tubes, that must've been amazing. Another of my favorite bands I wished I’d seen.
Great 1974 albums. Animals would be perfect for the weed question. Wind and Wuthering is a really great Genesis record. I enjoyed your video, Chuck!
The green NMTB was the US version. You've got a reissue that looks like the original UK yellow and pink version. There are a bunch of different version of the album, FWIW. Great album!
yeah i should've never gotten rid of all my original albums. still hurts.
Hey there, I appreciate the shoutout. I’m honored to be included with those other great channels. It’s always a pleasure to see you and I’m looking forward to the next one. Thanks again 👍🏼🇺🇸
thanks for the comment.
@@retirementainteasy you’re more than welcome
Cool 👍🏼🇺🇸
These BlockZone builds are frustrating at times. They are not as precise as LEGO in my opinion. So things fall off easily. But it kept me busy for 3 weeks or so.
Grandson time is priceless. I have two myself but they won’t be fishing for a few more years.
priceless and sometimes entertaining and sometimes frustrating. but wouldn't trade it for anything.
@@retirementainteasy agreed
It all looks good to me 👍🏼 I may have forgotten already but when are you planning on starting SS? Just curious, no judgement.
@@FailureatRetirement I started SS March 2024 at 62 years and 5 months.
@@retirementainteasy you did say that. Thank you. As of right now I think we are waiting until at least 65.
New RUclipsr here. Just subscribed to your channel.
Welcome and thanks for the subscribe. I hope to do more fishing this fall.
Great to see you back! We were wondering where you've been. 😀
Thanks! 😃 I hope to put out a couple videos a month, depends on available content.
Glad to see you again! I was singing a song the other day and got to thinking about you. You're staying busy which is great. You might decide to keep only one vehicle. Saves a ton of money. Glad you got the fishing bug again! We need to see your finished models. Do they have an Abrahams? That helicopter will look cool. How many guitars do you have? I counted 12? See you next time! Buzz
thanks. I have completed my Captain America model today. I will do a video of it and my small Cap collection. And the temps here in Texas have finally backed down, so going fishing this weekend with grandkids, possibly another video of that.
I was just wondering what happened to you a few weeks ago. Glad to see you back. I get it. My last video was about two months ago. This summer has been very busy and very, very hot. I also went to Texas for a wedding and brought the Covid home with me. I should be back at it in the next week or two.
sorry about the Covid. a wedding in the Texas summer sound very hot. the temps have fairly broken this past week. The low 80s this weekend. planning on fishing this weekend.
@@retirementainteasy we were in Houston the weekend after the hurricane. I was very worried about the heat and humidity but it was totally fine. It didn’t hurt that it was 112 when we left home, anything is better than that.
Hello Im Paul...Black oak doesnt get enough love imo..Kiss you bet ya the 1st 10 years probably my fave...Billyn Thorpe..Children of the Sun...never seen that Cheech and Chong..interesting party guests..lovin that Nuge shirt..digging the Pfunk..subbed to you btw...Ill have to check out the Linda Lindas ..great stuff great tag.Thanx for sharing and take care
thank you for the comment. I'm just getting round to catching up after a 3 month break from RUclips. I have been a Black Oak fan since my cousin introduced me to them as a pre-teen. And I love me some funk - Parliament, Rick James, James Brown. I don't remember what this video was about, I'll have to watch it again.
We LOVE the concept of "Every day is a Saturday"!
catching up after a few months away from RUclips. thanks for the comment. Many days I have to ask the Wife what day it is. If the trash is out for pickup, I know it's Wednesday. If our grandson is with us, it is the weekend.
It still surprises me how much joy I get from being able to help the friends and family who randomly call and ask for it. Never saw that coming. 👍🏼🇺🇸
help within reason ;-) If I can help out a son with money issues I will. And anything for the Grandson, and now Granddaughter.
@@retirementainteasy so far it hasn’t been about money. It’s just things like needing a ride, helping move furniture, driving tractor for a day, and other random things. It changes up my routine and gives me something to do.
I've taken my wife to JCS at least 3 times. Its her #1 favorite.
that is very cool. I've yet to see it as a rock opera.
I was young when it came out, but Heavy Metal is up there.
young? I can't be that much older than you. ;-)
You kind of buried the lead in the description 😂 Glad you got in the pool. I can never get enough grandson time.
lately the grandson likes to play video games so it was a treat to get him out into the pool. he will never turn down swimming in the pool.
if youre gonna use background music , id turn it down a bit and use instrumental.....good luck and congrats !
I was trying a little subliminal sales tactic, playing two of my songs underneath the monologue ;-)
For 6 months I didn't gain any weight. Within the last week or so I picked up 6 lbs. You have a good 2024 wish list!
thanks, most of thee goals, maybe all of them, are carried over every year. and I'm stuck at my weight loss journey.
Careful, you sound like a Program Manager......lol!
haha unfortunately it's been ingrained, I find myself approaching everything like a program/project manager. organized and planned, those were my gifts in the tech world.
Keeping yourself accountable is great! We have documented goals and strategies annually.
its the project manager in me, have to have an end in sight.
Julie was an awesome sultry singer. And later in her career she was on TV. I thought you were going to say it! She was Nurse Dixie McCall on Emergency!
I was mixing her up with Nurse Chapel (Majel Barrett). Now that I look her up, I see she was in Emergency, a show I watched on occasion. I never knew why my Dad owned those records.
I’m enjoying your content. We are both very similar I have a bedroom studio, like photography thinking of buying a drone to take pictures and video. The one major difference is I’M STILL WORKING…😖 I am 62.5 and I’m planning on retiring at 65 can’t wait I have so much life (hobbies) to live! Keep doing what you’re doing my friend I’ll be there soon. Cheers
thanks for the comment. I don't know your situation but don't wait to retire if at all possible. My final trigger was a buddy at work who kept saying he needed to work just one more year, he passed from cancer November 2022 within a month of getting diagnosed. never activated his pension, had plenty of money to retire but was holding out for just a bit more money. His death triggered my decision to retire a year later 12/31/2023. don't wait if your financial situation can support it. I plan to do a video on my music room. I've recorded a number of things there including two songs recently released - check out my artist. channel @chucksturgeon
is that a STEREO SKATEBOARDS t-shirt you have on ? ... i dug one out this weekend myself
No that is a 45rpm record adapter. www.bluescentric.com/images/product/large/431_1_.jpg
Happy Easter to you and your family. Was sweet watching you play music with your mom. 🥰
thank you and thanks for stopping by. it's always fun to get Mom on the piano although that piano needs tuning. I wish I could play like her. One of my retirement bucket list items is to learn to play the piano better.
Even a month out of work on a Sunday you get that work up. It must be the instant relief as soon as you know you don’t need to go to work. 😊
it has taken some time to get over that feeling. Now everyday is a Saturday.
All quality albums!
Even Flick of the Switch? ;-). thanks for stopping by.

Well done Chuckles!
thank you sir.
Ha the algorithm sent your channel my way, love it enjoy hearing about your retirement. I retired 5 years ago at 50 and it’s the best.
thanks for stopping by. Retirement is the best.
I would suggest you look at doing your categories differently. A budget should be able to show you where you can save money as well as where you spend it. I do broad categories and then subdivide. This is how mine gets divided up: Transportation Auto Maint Gas Insurance* Lyft Food Groceries Restaurants Housing Prop Tax HOA Insurance* Maintenance & Improvements Cleaning HHGoods Utilities, Electric Water, Sewer & Trash Medical Dental Ins Medicare Part B Premiums Copays, RX, OTC Internet & Communication Broadband Online & Ent Telephone Electronics TV & Accessories Phone & Accessories Tablet & Accessories Other Gifts & Donations Charity, Political, Personal Miscellaneous Pet Care (Except Food) Taxes Other I suggest instead of Credit Cards and loans you just call that "Debt Service" and you don't need more because you have clear plans to reduce that by eliminating debt; presumably that will reduce your IRA withdrawals in time or increase spending for FUN. Utilities include in Housing generally; it's good to see detail because you want to monitor it and see if you can reduce it. Instead of insurance I divide that up by the purpose. So "Auto", "Housing" and "Medical" are categories with insurance as subdivision. Gifts including investment for the grandson could be a category since much of the time it's optional or reducible. Living expenses should be broken out. Groceries, Restaurant, Entertainment (subscriptions could be part of that), etc This is a category where some granularity is good, because again those are things to optimize. I don't mean you have to pinch pennies, just that when you get the details of what you are spending your money on you have control over that aspect and can decide how to get the most for your money. As you can see I do a lot of electronics so I have that as a category. It's part of my fun but I call it out so as to remind myself not to go overboard on that. FWIW I live on 2/3 of my Social Security check, my small pension and IRA and other assets are there if I need them but I live well and well within my means. Having close visibilty to how I spend is a key to spending only on that which has an actual impact.
No poster in alive this was a fresh kiss video. Awesome video
thanks. Now I am wondering where I got the Alive poster from... thanks for stopping by and the comment.
Glad to hear that you got confirmation on your taxes coming out!
definitely glad. even better I got it right before I was going to visit the SSA office.
Sounds like you are going to busy having a lot of fun in retirement. Social influencing, music videos and everything else. Congrats boss and enjoy. Steve
thanks for stopping by and the comment. I am definitely enjoying retirement.
You will play like Blues Traveler next.
I wish. The harmonica, I'm learning, is a bit harder to play than I thought. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Congratulations on your retirement! It’s great your are budgeting and using new retirement. We are progressing towards our early retirement, can’t wait!
thanks for stopping by and commenting. you didn't mention how much longer until you retire?
@@retirementainteasy well that all depends on how effective we are at continuing to aggressively save and how the stock market behaves over the next years. Our target is 6 years but could be sooner with blissful market returns.
I am in uk, I retired in 2020, at 58, it took me a good year to get used d to retirement, I had a feeling I should be doing something, as if you are in a waiting room. I think this seems from working for such a long time, I started work at 15 , I hated my job, but did not expect I would feel like I did, I think it takes time to adjust to it
thanks for the comment. retirement is taking some getting used to. I try to schedule things, to accomplish at least one significant thing per day. today I fixed my fence gate.
You’re right, it takes a while to reset your brain to your new normal. My wife and I try to reserve our weekends to spend time with our many friends who aren’t retired yet and our kids. The weekends are a guilt free time when it’s okay if nothing gets done. There’s plenty of time during the week to take care of the things that do need doing and if you end up feeling guilty over something it might as well be then and not weekends.
thanks for the comment and stopping by. Our weekends are spent with our grandson so we do get lazy and do nothing except things with him. My brain is slowly resetting.
You’re welcome, enjoying it so far 👍🏼🇺🇸@@retirementainteasy
