    Just my two cents. I've been doing at energy modeling with a firm for almost a year and I've grown to absolutely loath Trace 3D. In your examples, you're using a very simplistic building which works well for a demo. However when one gets to doing load design/energy modeling consistently, projects are far from simple. I've had Trace 3D's building drawing tool consistently fail on itself (creating duplicate walls, inserting 0 geometry surfaces, etc.) Trane has added both a "heal geometry" tool and a "reconcile building" tool but both have also failed to fix corrupted files leading to me having to sometimes restart my project from scratch. Since it's essentially an Energy Plus wrapper as well, most error messages come out super cryptic and even Trane support reps haven't been able to help troubleshoot. My current project has now gone several months overtime simply because this software lacks resilience and error handling. For new users, try to learn HAP or explore smaller tools like HVAKR to help you become familiar with load design and/or Trace 3D. If you're working on a 1 story building with a small handful of rooms and a simple VAV system, Trace 3D might work out ;)

    Does learning this knowledge alone make you employable as an HVAC engineer, or do you also need an engineering degree? I completed the HVAC program at my local community college and learned a lot of these topics. The program I took prepares you to be an HVAC technician. Do I need to go further in my education and complete an engineering program at a university to be an HVAC engineer?

    • @aeclearn
      @aeclearn 7 месяцев назад

      The answer is not simple. You can be a HVAC Engineer without a 4-year bachelor’s degree and get a job. However, getting a job when you have both the knowledge and the engineering degree is much more easier. Also, you grow in your job faster if you have an engineering degree.
