Old time SAE Automotive Engr. here - Especially for more 'modern' engines (about 2012 and onwards) - those that have LOOSE piston rings installed) If you drive mostly all the time at long distances at 'steady' highway speeds - change at a minimum of 2/3 the OEM manufacturers oil change interval recomendations. If most of your driving is short distances or prodominantely in stop & go driving, consider to change the oil at HALF the recomended interval. When 'starting' to drive, dont fully accelerate until the engine is at normal operating temperatures. For known engines that are prone to sludge, consider to routinely use a heavy detergent (premium) oil such as Valvoline "CLEAN & Protect" oil every second or third changeout. FWIW - the newer engines (>2012) with LOOSE PISTON RINGS are prone to develop: STUCK PISTON RINGS due to carbon build up in piston ring 'grooves' which leads to significant cylinder wall WEAR. 2. the increased engine combusiton gasses BLOW-BY in the loose piston rings will eventually DILUTE the VISCOSITY of the ENGNE's LUBE OIL ... and the engines in-service life will be substantially REDUCED. Therefore, change the oil as listed above ... or even 'earlier'. Proper oil change is one hell of a lot cheaper than a rebuilt engine ... or better precision "re-manufactured" or 'new' engine ... or new vehicle. I typically get 250-300K miles out of my engines. Many of the loose piston ring engines cant make it beyond 50-70K miles ... unless you take extreme maintenance care of these 'loose piston ring' engines.

Thanks for covering this topic, vehicle with a 1.4 4 cylinder, is currently running a 10 psi oil pressure at idle.

Don't be lazy and change the oil every 10,000 miles like the car producers want you to do. Use a full synthetic oil and have it changed every 5000 miles and your engine will thank you!!
