SPOILERS AHEAD! BE CAREFUL! I love how this case implied/mentioned Makoto's luck influencing the murder just like THH does on the game (Or at least it feels like that). For example when Hifumi is dying, he suddenly wakes up and reveals Celestia's real last name, which later helps out a lot on her being found out as the killer, and it is said by various fans that Makoto's luck was the cause of Hifumi waking up. It also happens on other cases: -Sayaka might not have written her dying message if Makoto wasn't on the game. -Mondo might not have had a slip of the tongue on the class trial. -Makoto gets saved last minute on his execution by Alter Ego after it managed to install a virus on the school system before it was executed on Chapter 4 -On one of the OVAs, Junko tries to kill Makoto by throwing a wrench at him from a long distance, but he ends up slipping on a paper that makes him fall, hence avoiding the hit. It makes it feel like Makoto does have a talent for real in the end and not just the title, that aspect of him is one of the things that most intrigue me about his character.

The switch in music from pixelated Ace Attorney to synth Danganronpa lowkey gave me whiplash 😭😭

I've played the first case and after that I kind of never re-checked this fan-made project for a year and a half, until now. Glad to hear you are able to do good progress, I never played ace attorney nor danganronpa, only watched them, so yours in my first. I'll be in the wait for case 2.

I'd like to preface what I'm about to say by saying that I'm not trying to be a hater, I've never undertaken a project like this so I don't know how difficult it is, and this is all just my opinion. I'm writing this in the hopes that the feedback can be useful for future cases, not to make anyone involved feel bad. I apologize if it comes across any differently. There were a few issues that I noticed with this case. To be clear, this is not a result of me intentionally overanalyzing every little detail to find faults with this game; these are things I couldn't help myself from noticing in my initial playthrough. I found it a bit unbelievable that we didn't get a chance to talk to Makoto before the trial starts. In the Ace Attorney games, I believe the one and only time you don't get at least a moment with the defendant before the trial starts is the Foreign Turnabout, which is justified under its specific circumstances. Other than that, no matter how ill-prepared you are, the defendant is always brought to the defendant lobby where you can talk to them for a bit before the trial starts. I don't understand why Makoto was brought directly to the courtroom and not to the defendant's lobby. The picture of Makoto shows the black glove very prominently, being both near the centre of the image and in the foreground. It also drew my eye since it's the only detail that seems to be different from the usual character designs. I also made a specific point to remember that he was wearing gloves, because fingerprints and whether or not a person would feasibly leave them has always been an important detail in Ace Attorney cases. So when we came to the red fibres, and I remembered that Makoto was wearing black gloves, it didn't really feel like "Aha, I'm ahead of the game, and I know how we're going to prove he wasn't wearing red gloves." It felt more like "Phoenix, just mention the black gloves, you idiot." Similarly, when Komaru mentioned her black gloves being missing, I immediately thought "Okay, so obviously that means they're your gloves." Just to be clear, my problem isn't that I was able to predict this point of logic, it's that it felt so obvious that it seemed Phoenix should've realized it sooner. Like, I have no problem with the "Makoto was too short to hit Stahfice on the top of the head" point, even though I also figured that out quicker than expected, because that one felt more like I had to work for it. Another point about the gloves, why did neither sibling say anything about it? The moment we pulled up the photo on the Monopad, shouldn't Komaru have said "Wait a minute, those are my gloves!" And when the colour of Makoto's gloves was discussed, shouldn't Makoto have mentioned "But I wasn't even wearing my red gloves yesterday! I couldn't find mine, so I borrowed my sister's black gloves. My friends from school can corroborate that!" The prosecution's case was presesnted very weakly. I understand Payne is supposed to be a bit of a pushover, but I think he normally does a better job than this. The main problem is that the only thing that ties Makoto to the crime scene is Jutarō's testimony, yet he takes a very long time to call him to the stand. He spent far too long arguing with evidence that proves relatively little, and Phoenix took way too long to point out Payne's lack of evidence. I'm definitely one of the people that clicked on the boxes when asked "How could Makoto have hit someone so much taller than him on the top of the head?", but I think part of the reason is that the knee prints didn't read particularly well as knee prints (if I knew they were knee prints, I would've gone for that over the boxes since they didn't have any snowy footprints on them). I honestly thought they were just the prints of some big, flat shoes. Given that you have to fudge the shape a bit to make it ambiguous which direction they're facing I'm not sure what else you can really do to make it any clearer, though... I guess slip it into the dialogue somewhere earlier? For all the issues I list here, I wouldn't call this a bad case. Like, I'm not about to say this is worse than Turnabout Serenade. It's just that I can't help but notice these things, they were distracting for me, and I can't help but feel there might be others that would find that these sorts of things detract from their enjoyment of an otherwise decent case. ...Oh, and one last thing, something I'm separating from the rest of my points because it's significantly more of a nitpick than the rest (but is also more of an objectively true fact and not an opinion). The name "Jutarō" is inconsistent with the way the official Danganronpa localizations romanize Japanese names. Specifically, they never use macrons, even in instances where standard Hepburn romanization would call for it, presumably to simplify the names for English readers. Examples of Danganronpa names that could use macrons but don't are Toko (Toukou/Tōkō), Kyoko (Kyouko/Kyōko), and Owada (Oowada/Ōwada). According to the wiki, the work Jutarō's from hasn't been officially localized, which is probably why his name wasn't translated using the same standards as the other characters. Apologies for this stupidly large wall of text. Sometimes consuming a piece of media causes me to form Opinions™ that must be expulsed from my body. Again, sorry if any of it came across as mean-spirited, that was not my intention.

When I first saw the trailer I wasn't expecting a super ambitious fan project like this, I thought it was gonna be all reused assets with a few edited or fanmade sprites here and there like back in the day but here we are, 2024 and it looks like someone's working on a half decent fanmade AA game. I only say half decent because I haven't seen it yet, I'm sure it'll be better than that though I'm surprised this has taken so long for someone to do, DR and AA seem like a match made in heaven, you'd think somebody else would have already tried this but nope.

This is 100% believable. Phoenix Wright would most likely end up getting hit with a last second request to defend a wrongfully accused person in court especially considering he got tapped for work in the crossover with Professor Layton when Wright and Maya went to London for said game. Makoto Naegi definitely feels like the type to get wrongfully accused of a crime since he was the first accused in Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc. Should've known a crossover of both the Ace Attorney and Danganronpa series would've happened at one point since the second game of the latter references the former in its second case. Even if said crossover is a fangame.

That was SO good! I love that we got to see more of Makoto and Komaru's sibling dynamic, something that we don't get much of in the mainline games. The writing for Phoenix, Payne and the Judge was perfectly in character aswell. The original characters were quite interesting, althought obviously not very fleshed out because this is only the first case. Really interested to see where this project goes!

Makoto never had any doubt that Komaru would get phoenix’s help, I’d think.

You know what would be a great idea for another Ace Attorney/Danganronpa case? Having Phoenix and Makoto defend a serial killer. And by that, I mean having them defend Toko Fukawa for a murder she didn't commit.

I would love to see an actual Ace Attorney/Danganronpa crossover.

This Case was very well written. For the culprit, he's really basic and that's perfect for the tutorial. I admit he's a little too Wellington but I liked him.
