How to Estimate the Residence Time Distribution (RTD)? Non Ideal Reactors || Chemical Engineering
Residence time distributions are measured by introducing a non-reactive tracer into the system at the inlet. Its input concentration is changed according to a known function and the output concentration measured. The tracer should not modify the physical characteristics of the fluid (equal density, equal viscosity) or the hydrodynamic conditions and it should be easily detectable. In general, the change in tracer concentration will either be a pulse or a step.
The pulse experiment method requires the introduction of a very small volume of concentrated tracer at the inlet of the reactor, such that it approaches the Dirac delta function. Although an infinitely short injection cannot be produ...

Mathematical Interpretation of Wet Bulb Temperature || Humidification || Mass Transfer Operations
Просмотров 8413 года назад
Wet Bulb temperature can be measured by using a thermometer with the bulb wrapped in wet muslin. The adiabatic evaporation of water from the thermometer and the cooling effect is indicated by a "wet-bulb temperature" lower than the "dry bulb temperature" in the air. #WetBulbTemperature #Humidification #DryBulbTemperature
What is Adiabatic Saturation Temperature? Humidification & Dehumidification || Mass Transfer
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
Adiabatic saturation temperature is defined as that temperature at which water, by evaporating into air, can bring the air to saturation at the same temperature adiabatically. An adiabatic saturator is a device using which one can measure theoretically the adiabatic saturation temperature of air. The adiabatic saturation process is not practical. To determine the absolute and relative humidity ...
What is Prandtl Number? Heat Transfer Operations
Просмотров 9 тыс.3 года назад
The Prandtl number is a dimensionless number, named after its inventor, a German engineer Ludwig Prandtl, who also identified the boundary layer. The Prandtl number is defined as the ratio of momentum diffusivity to thermal diffusivity. The momentum diffusivity, or as it is formally called, kinematic viscosity, tells us the material’s resistance to shear-flows (different layers of the flow trav...
[Hindi] What is Dry Bulb Temperature and Wet Bulb Temperature?? Why WBT is always less than DBT ||
Просмотров 3463 года назад
In this video, have explained the concept of dry bulb temperature, Wet bulb temperature. Wet bulb temperature is the lowest temperature to which air can be cooled by the evaporation of water into the air at a constant pressure. It is therefore measured by wrapping a wet wick around the bulb of a thermometer and the measured temperature corresponds to the wet bulb temperature. The dry bulb tempe...

The Reynolds number is a dimensionless quantity to help determine if a fluid flow will be laminar flow or orderly flow, This is depicted at the bottom right as multiple layers of fluid that are all going parallel and in the same direction rightward. Turbulent flow or chaotic flow, This is depicted at the top right as a flow that is going...

Concept of Residual Properties || Solution Thermodynamics || Chemical Engineering ||
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.4 года назад
In thermodynamics a residual property is defined as the difference between a real gas property and an ideal gas property, both considered at the same pressure, temperature, and composition. The residual properties are usually used for gases only. Using such a property for a liquid (or solid) is inconvenient as then it would also include the property change of vapourization (and solidification) ...

What is Partial Molar Property? | Gibbs-Duhem Equation |Solution Thermodynamics|Chemical Engineering
Просмотров 6 тыс.4 года назад
A partial molar property is a thermodynamic quantity which indicates how an extensive property of a solution or mixture varies with changes in the molar composition of the mixture at constant temperature and pressure. Essentially it is the partial derivative of the extensive property with respect to the amount (number of moles) of the component of interest. Partial molar properties are useful b...

Being very energy conscious, you wish to explore possible ways to save money on your home power bill. Since you have a small stream that flows through your property, you wonder if it is practical to dam the stream and utilize the resulting water pressure to generate electricity to supplement the electric energy provided by the power company. You look back through your past power bills and determine that you paid for 104 KW.hr of electric energy during the past year. You estimate the maximum elevation drop that the stream experiences across your property is 35 ft. Carry out a preliminary engineering feasibility design that concentrates on the required flow rate and elevation drop of the stream required to replace a reasonable portion of your power requirement. Can you get solution for this bhyaa

Your video sounds very nice and clear. But I think it is perpetuating the same common misconceptions about fugacity that make it so hard for students to learn. For instance, you say "fugacity is a pressure of a substance, corrected for non-ideality in its behavior." But I don't think that's true, and in a way I think it's backward. When we use a gauge to physically measure the "pressure" of a real, non-ideal gas, what do you think we are actually measuring? It is not fugacity, it is pressure. Pressure is the true property which accounts for non-ideality. Fugacity is a way to mathematically "undo" the non-ideality, allowing us to use ideal-gas equations such as ∆g = RT*ln(P2/P1). If we tried to input the pressure values of a real gas, we'd compute the wrong value of ∆g, because this equation is only for an ideal gas. However, we can use a fictitious version of pressure, that ignores all the non-ideal behavior, and if we input the proper values of that "idealized pressure" into an ideal gas equation, we find the correct ∆g for our real gas. So really, fugacity isn't a version of pressure that accounts for non-ideality, it is a version of pressure that ignores non-ideality. The pressure is physical and non-ideal, the fugacity is fictitious and ideal.
