What is Your Focus?: Guest Speaker Rose Kothman
I so wish more Pastors would teach this message! Jack Hibbs and you are the best!!!
"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." Galatians 5: 16 "For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." Romans 8: 13 "Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." Colossians 5: 3 "Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?" Romans 6: 16 "For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." Galatians 5: 17-18 The Spirit leads us away from sin. It leads us to say "No" to sin.
Sin is put to death by saying "No" to it. It is crucified. That's what repentance is. Most of the 10 Commandments speak about the human need to crucify the flesh, by starting with the word "No." "No" means death to it. Crucify all the evil tendencies of the flesh is what God is saying. In exchage the power of resurrection is given, a new life through Christ. "Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you." Proverbs 1: 23 "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord." Acts 3: 19 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me." Galatians 2: 20
God grants us full pardon when we repent. The flesh gets crucified and we receive a new law-abiding nature that will enable us to live within his law and receive according to our deeds, eternal life, in the day of the revelation of the righteous judgement of God - as per Romans 2: 6-7. The pardon and the new birth in the Spirit are free gifts for us which were purchased by Christ in Calvary.
Righteousness apart from keeping the law comes from forgiveness for the transgressions committed against the law. Forgiveness of sin is what makes us righteous. Forgiveness of sin brings a new spiritual birth by the Spirit of God, a new spiritual nature with the capacity to keep God's law, which was impossible through the flesh. There is no law against the fruit of the Spirit, says Galatians 5: 23. Love is the fulfillment of the law, says Romans 13: 10. The Holy Spirit brings the fruit of love, says Galatians 5: 22. We are not saved by good works because we only had sin. We were saved by the forgiveness of our wrong doing. However, we are saved to do good works by obeying God through faith, thanks to the new birth by the Holy Spirit in us - according to Ephesians 2: 10.
Thank you Pastor Jay, families are at their best with both parents invested & involved. Praise Jesus. Amen.

As always Pastor, the anointing of the Holy Spirit was on the word you spoke. Thank you. I know you didn't hear me, but I was saying amen to the word as you spoke. The Lord bless you, and sister Pam, plus the congregation. God bless YOU.
Pastor Pam, you said so much that hit home to me. Thank you. I have saved this to listen to it again. the Lord bless you.
What a powerful word Pastor, thank you. The Lord bless you, and the church congregation.
Pastor, all I can say is thank you for such powerful words, and again I'm so thankful that you listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit as you share the word with us. You were faithful to plant the word in the mans life, and God will be faithful to have someone come along to water it. Who knows it could be you. Thank you Pastor we are truly blessed to have you as our Pastor. Playfully I will be back in church after seeing the doctor again. The Lord Bless you and your family, as well as our church family.
Fantastic message! Thank You Pastor!
"Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law." Romans 13: 10 Anger makes people sin, hurt, harm others, and can lead to murder. Psalm 37: 8-9 1Samuel 25: 33-34 Matthew 5: 21-22 1John 3: 15 Anger gives a foothold to the devil. (Ephesians 4: 27)
"Love is the fulfllment of the law" Romans 13: 10 "Sin is lawlessness." 1st John 3: 4 We can therefore say that sin is lovelessness. That is, unkindness, because "love is kind." (1 Corinthians 13: 4) "Judgement without mercy will be for those who have shown no mercy." James 2: 13 Lawlessness is irresponsibility. It is not taking responsibility for the good treatment and well-being of others - for not loving others as yourself.
The battle is in the heart, either to hate or to love. According to our moral decisions, our mind gets blinded or enlightened. The battle is between selfishness and fairness. It is a moral and ethical battle. Otherwise we would not be count as guilty before God. Falling under deceit is the resulting punishment for selfishness and being unfair to others, in accordance to God's standards. (2Thessalonians 2: 11-12)
Satan hates humanity. The people who don't care for the well-being of others and refuse to love their neighbors as themselves, also hate humanity. If you don't love your neighbor as yourself, you hate humanity. Satan and those who are cruel and unfair, are in the same wavelength. People on the same wavelength as Satan reject the kingdom of God. They don't want any part with it. (Matthew 25: 41-46) (John 3: 19-21).
Most of the time those who are under the power of the devil are there because they refuse to do what is right. They reject what is good and fair and choose what is wrong and cruel. They fall into the traps of deceit as a result of being rebellious against what is right and true. (2Thes 2: 10-12) (Ro 1: 28) (Prov 1: 29-33) (John 3: 19-21).
Pastor I know you couldn't hear me, but I was saying amen to all you said, and even laughed at somethings. i agree we have so much to be thankful for. I know that I don't see fruit for the salvation of those I'm praying for, but the Lord say ask, and you shall receive, pule it's His will that none should perish, so I trust that my prayer for them will come to pass. Some sow, some water, but God gives the increase. I can trust in Him. God Bless You pastor and Pam .

One question that never gets asked is how did baptism just suddenly pop out of nowhere? And spare me that whole "Red Sea" thing because the only people who got wet were the drowned Egyptians. But the more salient question is: How did John (the Baptist) escape being killed by Herod's thugs? He's only 6 months older than "Jesus" (not his name until the 17th century) but we see that family heading out alone over the frontier - to EGYPT, by the way, which was not all that warm and welcoming towards Hebrews. But John somehow escapes? I don't believe Herod's mercenaries were checking birth certificates. So how did that work?
Hi Jenna, sorry it took so long to respond. These are some great questions so thanks for asking. Anyway, the first one, having to do with the origins of baptism. It seems that most scholars believe that there was a form of baptism in Jewish culture before John began baptizing the people. This makes sense in that no one seemed to really question the reason for what John was doing. Some believe that it was associated with the cleansing of the priests with water before performing their priestly duties. Jewish history does show that there were cleansing ceremonies that resembled baptism during the intertestamental period before John the Baptist. Your second question - “How did John (the Baptist) escape being killed by Herod’s thugs?” Of course for the sake of others reading this, it’s referencing the account when Herod I (Herod the Great), ordered all the male children in Bethlehem and all its districts to be killed who were 2 years old and younger (Matthew 2:16). According to Luke 1:39, John’s parents lived in “the hill country… a city of Judah.” We also know John grew up in the desert according to Luke 1:80. So, it seems likely that John lived so remotely and far away from Bethlehem that it was not one of the areas Herod sent men to kill the children.
Thank you for a wonderful Resurrection Day message, Pastor.

Great teaching on trials, situations that brings about fear and hopeless. But God uses our circumstances to reveal that God is with us and he will move on our behalf, and in return we can Rejoice with Praise unto God during and after we are delivered.
Amen!
