      Congratulations on the upcoming buying an 09 vstrom . I am pretty low budget. Don’t spend a lot of money. I have an old Go pro 4 with an inexpensive microphone I bought off of ebay. Rocky Mountain has some good videos on microphone and camera set up a lot better than what I use. Good luck hopefully I’ll see some of your videos soon.

    Got a 2012 Vstrom, last of the first gen. Already replaced the stator at 50,000 km. The original battery lasted longer than the stator. Battery lasted 11 years. I think the previous owner has drilled the end cans to make them louder, sounds like a big single now which doesn’t sound good on this bike. I also find it very vibey and rough when accelerating from low revs even if it isn’t lugging. The roads around Brisbane are pretty crap too which has made something inside the mirrors come loose and they now both rattle over every bump in the road and quite annoying, I will have to replace them. Even though I don’t always wash it as much as I should, the chrome at the top of the fork stanchions is rusting, which I have never had happen on any previous bike, even when ridden in UK winter time. I live in sunny Brisbane now and got corrosion on Vstrom. There is a lot on the internet about how reliable these bikes are, but I have found the build quality of my Suzuki Vstrom to be worse than any Kawasaki I have ever had. It is my first Suzuki, but I would probably get a different brand for my next bike to be honest

    • @delldavis9803
      @delldavis9803 5 месяцев назад

      Sorry to hear about all your problems with your vstrom I am on my second vstrom and it’s got 27,000 miles without a problem. It’s like anything nowadays when you buy something you never know how it’s gonna hold up I had one Toyota truck that 139,000 miles the engine gave up on me. My second one went 300,000 miles without one problem. I’ve had several Suzuki and they’ve all been great bikes Without any issues the problem when you buy secondhand, you never know how the first owner took care of it. To be honest every Japanese bike I had has been very reliable, and I’ve owned Honda, Kawasaki’s, Suzuki’s and Yamaha.

      Good morning from Australia Dell. Wasn’t expecting an answer, let alone so quickly. Just looking at one for sale on Gumtree that has had a lot of mods done, and it mentioned a mod to rectify clutch “Chudder”. Just googling it now and sound like the roughness I’m experiencing accelerating from 3000 to 4000 rpm. Also just making an appointment to get my split seat recovered. Your review of the Vstrom 1000 is excellent Dell, and actually made me start thinking of keeping it and not looking for another bike. I have had mine for about 6 years now, and it’s nice to hear they are a good bike even if they feel a bit cheaply built compared to my previous Kawasakis. Hope you get to keep enjoying your riding for plenty more years. Stay safe

    • @delldavis9803
      @delldavis9803 5 месяцев назад

      Here in the states, the O2 to 04 vstrom had the problems with the chatter and actually the 2012 was the bike to get for first GEN because most of the problems were worked out. I had a 05 and I thought I was having a problem with the clutch but it turned out. It was the chain and sprocket, the chain would come up off the sprocket and then fall back down when you first took off but once you got going, it was fine it was only in the lower speeds in RPMs. And I usually leave my motorcycle stock without any engine, mods or high-performance accessories because that’s the way they were designed to run and I found with the Japanese you have less problems if you leave them stock.

    Enjoyed your video and unpretentious informative insights. I thing another great aspect of V Stroms is over 20 years of Suzuki refinement and ownership support on social media. I'm always ary about brand new models that have not been put through years of use and feedback. BTW, what local is this road near? At first I thought... Southern California, or hill country of Texas, dry looking, but when you mentioned Twin Oaks and I395/Randburg?, I was at a loss. Glad to see that being in one's seventies doesn't mean giving up riding motorcycles. Safe riding, John.

No fuss on highway and plenty enough fun in twisties, a bit too heavy for someone clueless like me to play in the sand or dirt, though. Mine already has some fancy electronics that help keep a greenhorn like me out of serious trouble and cruise control, too. Oh, and the added bonus is the fact that I easily get 50+ MPG (under 4,7 l/100 km) when I am riding sensibly. The engine is just amazing. Ride safely, sir! Greetings from Poland!

    ty sir, for the good information. About 9000 miles of 15 k on a 12 dl1000 so far, and your video makes me want to keep it even though I do NOT want to tackle the valve adjustment now due. Air filter change means one might as well check those rear valves though. Have you ever noticed a hiccup/burp at 2500 to 2800 rpm using lower gears at a steady cruising speed on back roads? I can make the bike do it at will! I have ridden for 45 years and this is the first time I have had a bike do such. I would not worry about the valves I checked mine three times and every time they were within specs never were out finally I quit inspecting them. And that hesitation is common on all first GEN v strom I tried a fuel injection tuner that helped a little but didn’t Cure the problem after a while I just learned not to ride in that zone of RPMs. I really only had the hesitation problem when I was in traffic but I ride mostly on the open roads and I like to rev my machine so it was never really a problem. One issue is it backfires occasionally when running low speed for a bit. Another issue is a sort of growl as it goes from like 3500 to 4000 RPM. I suspect this is the infamous clutch "Chudder"? Thanks and great video!

    • @delldavis9803
      @delldavis9803 Год назад

      On my 05 I had them adjusted three times every time they were within specs. The only issue with backfiring and poor running was the fuel injection. I have a module that controls it and on mine it went bad. I believe all the hype on the clutch chatter. It’s just that they got me believing it online. I pulled my clutch out and inspect everything it was fine. I believe it was more mental. i’d be willing to bet the problems you’re having is with the module that controls your feelings section. Sorry but I can’t think of the name right now. The only two problems I ever had was the stater and the fuel injection and that 55,000 you should have a good running bike for a long time if you can figure out these two little problems. I hope you can read all this. I’m doing on my phone and I can’t edit. That’s what happens when you get old so I hope this helps and good luck

      @@delldavis9803 Thank you so much for the reply! I plan to try to ride a buddy's newer Strom to compare the clutch "chudder" to mine. I will also now try to check the fuel injection module. I really like the bike and look forward to lot of miles on it. Thank you again for the quick reply!

      I really loved my 05 The only reason I’ve got the 18 as a friend of mine passed away and left it to me a good friend. it’s got a Lotta nice fancy stuff that I really don’t use half of it. I really like the 18 but I don’t know if. for the price difference if I would’ve. upgraded.

    Beautiful! My wife and I went east bound a few years ago in the spring after a good rain season and there were lots of poppies to go with the green and it was stunningly beautiful. We're looking for a weekend in March to try again, maybe going as far as Death Valley, where we also saw a superbloom years ago. Do you know if Sherman Pass is open?

      No, Shermans Pass is not open at this time with the winter we’re having it might not be open until June or July.

    Man I miss riding those canyon roads in cali. I miss my Vstrom too. Thanks for making me sad! Kidding, great video. Glad you got to rip up those roads.

    Had A41 on my 05 VStrom1000 for last 4yrs of hard charging canyon ripping in northern s.f. bay hills. While the rear tire has good side tread left the center wear bars are touching , the front has another season or two left . I have a set of T31 but since I plan to slow it down a bit and ride more conservatively, I'll probably throw on a rear Dunlop Roadsmart 2 instead .

      I find that the Bridgestone’s will last a little bit longer than the other tires. I’ve tried, and I tried them all and being on a fixed income. That’s the main reason I like them plus the price.

    He never saw you. He wasn't looking either. Probably took one look and watching the front bike drive away and just thought he was alone. Excellent reflex's and move over to avoid the truck. Thank God he wasn't pulling out to go the other way back to you.

    Yup. You just want to go back and horn them off the road up into the grassy area. The next pickup truck might kill them all. Good video.
