Navigating Controversy: Offshore Wind in Rhode Island
Offshore wind has stirred controversy in recent years, especially in Rhode Island with the Block Island wind farm construction starting in 2015. Some see it as the future of energy, while others view it as a threat to our way of life.
We gathered local fishing industry experts to discuss offshore wind's impact on Rhode Island and neighboring states. Tune in; it's an episode worth hearing, as we all deserve a say in significant environmental changes, whether you're for or against it.

Episode #090 1620 Workwear
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 года назад
In this week's episode of Along the Keel, we sit down with Josh and Ted, the founders of a workwear brand who are taking the space by storm. From the start of 1620, the guys made it their mission to deliver high-quality workwear to the underserved blue-collar industry. An industry that has been more focused on creating consumable workwear, 1620 utilizes custom fabrics, and designs, and makes 10...

Be real nice to know what kind of oil
I can’t believe anyone thought these things were a good idea in the first place. Saw some for the first time last summer outside of Cape Cod. I was shocked at their size! Enormous! And there were only a half a dozen. I can’t even begin to imagine hundreds!
Hey! Hoping RI is next!! States are pulling away from wind…. ruclips.net/video/BeWTz5RNxsE/видео.htmlsi=a0eD61R9qf3fUCcM
Lots of complaining that you will all lose money. Not many facts about why offshore wind is bad…..
I don't want to sound too mean, but you really do come off as a bunch of rambling idiots. There's so much misinformation here and I can only hope it's just ignorance and not malicious. If you oppose offshore wind, that's fine. That's your right. Tell me why, provide a clear and rational argument backed by evidence, and let's have a discussion! This is far from that.
Why are people so determined to be stupid? Electricity price went up in Europe because the gas price literally went up 10-15x (Russian energy blackmail), and due to marginal pricing the most expensive source sets the price, in this case the gas powered plants. And because Europe has the largest interconnected grid in the world the increased price was felt in all of Europe. But on the upside this interconnected grid and relatively high volume of renewable energy saved Europe despite Russia closing the gas tap. We had zero blackouts. Also if you want to talk about the effects of offshore wind farms on the ecosystem at least learn from actual scientists: ruclips.net/video/LWprgjt3lds/видео.html
Any suggestions for what we can do to stop this please? Thanks
Thank you for sharing this information!
Zach, thank you for hosting this discussion. Eye opening and informative! There were mentions of websites and Corey’s instagram, could you supply info/links for them? I’d like to learn more.
My pleasure, it’s an important topic to discuss. We will be coming out with a document outlining links and general information soon. If you go to our website and sign up for the newsletter we will email you a copy.
Zach, that’s a great idea!
Block Island Windfarms are a failure there are only 5 of them and all 5 rarely turn at one time it’s a scam. Constantly broken and rates have skyrocketed.
That’s called a ‘clove hitch’ and if you’re a boater and don’t know it…stay on land!
Actually that's a clove hitch not a half hitch
Actually that's a dick lock for BDSM
Funny looking half hitch…
@@joshuahintz131 I stand corrected and have seen the error. Thanks
@@alongthekeel you’re right and I apologize for my error!
Thank you all!! Our Captain Associate in NC has been preaching and sharing your exact thoughts and observations!
Great podcast, Corey getting the word out there, you go girl.
Great job, Zach! Very effective and surprisingly funny (especially given the subject matter). Nice touch with the hairy gremlin behind Corey. We'll share it widely.
Thanks Bill, glad you enjoyed it! A touch of humor always helps
Thank you for sharing this information and for standing up for what's right 🙏🏼
Thank you for spreading the word!
EXTREME DOLLAR & ENVIRONMENTAL COST/NO BENEFIT Claims offshore wind combats climate change are lies. Vineyard Wind's Final Environmental Impact Statement concludes: “...it is anticipated there will be NO collective impact on global warming as a result of offshore wind projects.” It's a simple. There's no point to it, except enriching government cronies.
Absalute bullshit.. the foundation is a habitat for marine life. The seal population increased massively around the windfarm near me...
More reasons to crack fusion energy or build more fission plants
The ignorance from these guys is astounding. Y’all don’t see them talking about the offshore oil rigs ruining the environment for animals. I doubt these guys worried about the ocean at all before their pretty little view was ruined. Those windmills do more good then harm in the long run but you won’t hear that from them.
I agree, those are also bad, but wind energy is still destructive and much less efficient. I think it's best if they don't pick favorites and just acknowledge that both aren't practical solutions.
@@youtubegm8256 idk where your getting your information from but please stop. Wind energy is very efficient and there’s a reason why other countries are way ahead of us in it. I think it’s best if you let the actual experts who study this stuff make the decisions.
Probably best to listen and or watch the podcast before making assumptions.
@@alongthekeel probably best not to cut up and edit part of your podcast to make yourself even look like idiots 🤷🏽♂️

Honest questions from someone who LOVES BI and Blue Shutters beach... So-- what if there's no planet left? Or the coastline disappears with the new hot hurricanes? It seems that wind power is one of the least invasive solutions... we can all complain about our personal losses, yes. But we're collectively almost past the point of no return. Seems like we gotta think differently ... the world as we knew it is collapsing. Don't want wind power? Ready to give up A/C forever? - offered with respect & shared horror. Peace.
Wind energy is actually the most invasive form of attaining energy. It takes up more square area and cubic area by far than any other method. Even solar energy takes up less space, and solar panels can be put on the top of buildings that already exist. These can't. They are a black hole that destroys everything around them. We need versatility, something more practical, more space efficient.
@@youtubegm8256wind energy destroys everything around them? Tf are you talking about? Wind turbines are out in the most open field areas you can find and what we get in return is much better then fracking.
@@MrMunoz-xp2rywind energy is horrible. It devastes the wildlife and constantly breaks down spewing oil everywhere. The actual amount of energy created is minuscule.
@@MrMunoz-xp2ry You have to clear space for wind turbines therefore destroying what it in the area entirely. I don't love fracking either, but wind energy is just an alternative inefficient and destructive method of obtaining energy. At least natural gas has a high energy output. Wind energy doesn't even have that.
@@youtubegm8256 if wind turbines were as destructive as you think they are then we wouldn’t be building them. Your over exaggerating the destruction wind turbines cause. Your also not seeing the much more good it can bring then other energy resources.
Man I thought you were talking about a RUclips channel and I was so confused on how to red right turn and subscribe lmao
Red right returning from the sea.
You got it!
I've seen tree people do something similar with 500ft lines, but at the end, they are able to make a loop that allows them to hang it.
That's another way to do it! I find it easier to have the tag end so its easier to tie to a rail.
...unless you work on a tow boat and working with 2 and 3 inch lines.
You are not wrong!! We have coiled many tow lines in the past.
Nice to meet you guys . Absolutely love your work clothes . Top notch clothing made in America . What's not to like if you love this country.
Glad I found your podcast and now youtube channel. Keep it iup. I dig the theme. Big west coast boater and fisherman here.
thank you!
Where is he taking about?
Rhode Island!
Lived in Grenada for awhile. The spear fishing there is unreal. The water is so clear it’s epic. I agree spear fishing is legend
I bet! Looking forward to traveling there one day.
1620 worth every penny just order another pair
Couldn't agree more!
They do make the best work clothes out there. We buy all our shirts and hoodies from 1620 and their pants are top notch! Used to wear carhartt and Duluth but I would much prefer buying from an American company and the gear is much more tuff. I’d blow through Duluth fire hose pants in about 5-6 months, my very first pair of 1620 pants are just now starting to get a hole in the knee. Btw, it’s more than $150/hr to fix that toilet 😂 there’s no trade workers being laid off.
Couldn't agree more, we love 1620 and all they are doing for the trades! Nothing better than American work wear on American workers.
@@alongthekeel hell yea! I had to order several loads of hoodies cause anyone working with us wanted one when they came to the shop. I’ll pay for American made any day!
you're beautiful, don't change baby :: ))
Nice pod cast
Appreciate you!
Great interview. 1620 rocks. Ted and Josh are great guys. I’ve known Josh since high school.
