would unistrut work too?
I suppose it could but... a) I don't think it's any less expensive, b) the length options are different, and c) lining up and screwing onto the garage panel will likely be harder.
I found the angles for $23 at Ace Hardware and used them for the joint you demonstrated as well as the one below it. Two of the four lined up perfectly. I had to widen the far left hole with a drill slightly on two of them to get them to line up perfectly. It didn't take long at all and appears to be working well. Thanks!
Good to hear it worked well for you. I think the trick to screwing them on is not to tighten any of the screws until you have them all in. That might give you enough wiggle room to skip having to widen any holes.
How do you controll the rgb ? Specifically the diamond logo in the front, from what ive seen it can only be conrrolled via the integrated rgb controller which i cant get the omen gaming hub to recognize. And from what ive seen in this video the lighting option doesnt sjow up in the omen gaming hub for you either.
If you have an official HP build, the lighting is indeed controlled via the OMEN Gaming Hub app. When in System Vitals, there are tabs along the top and one of them is Lighting. If you can't control your lights, then maybe a cable to the rgb controller came loose. On the other hand, if you have a home build PC using this HP Omen 45L case, you can try using the free app from Open RGB at openrgb.org/ which works great on some home builds I have using the smaller Omen 30L case. Good luck!
@@yurika1355 ok, thanks, is that also they way you did it ?
@@Treizig Well, this was a custom build I made for my brother and I first got the cool 45L case from HP after seeing a nice review about it. I think the RGG/ARGB controller that comes with this case was flexible enough to work with the mobo I used and so I actually was able to install and run the HP Omen Gaming Hub app to control the lights. The HP 30L case is smaller and also nice, but it doesn't have that very smart, separated top section for efficient water cooling radiator setup. The RGB controller for the 30L and the required Gaming Hub app also do not work with non-HP motherboards. That is where the Open RGB freeware software comes in handy for sure, though I'm sure it works with the 45L or any other RCG/ARGB controller.
And the diamond logo in the front is indeed controlled via the HP Gaming Hub app, but you have to use 3 different tabs in the lighting controls area to find and configure all the light options because of how they separate the controls for them all.
$59.00 at Home Depot.
Where do I install strut
My video should be helpful with description of how I installed on my own garage as an example. I am not a garage repairman so if my video is not helpful please search for others online as there are plenty more that might be useful.
Love the excitement in your voice sir! I can tell when calm people are excited :)
Is this just one bar on a 16ft? Please help
I used two 8' bars and put one on the lower edge of one panel and the other bar on the top edge of the adjoining panel. I did it this way because the two adjoining panels both had "bend damage" so this straightened and reinforced both panels for me. Your repair may or may not need multiple bars - all depends on your situation.
Thank you! Just fixed my door. Works like a charm. Although, the prices has gone up quite a bit. I paid about $40/each slotted angle. I installed 2 as well just for good measures.
I think they are too heavy to stabilize the gate. I used aluminum. It is light resistant and easy to install.
Thank you for your comment. It would be nice to know what exactly it was that you used that you believe was better so please add as much detail of your fix as possible. Name of part and/or item number? Where purchased? How much? etc.
I think the cops are coming
Brah! This worked! Thank you thank you thank you
Glad it helped
How is it holding up 6 years later? I am curious. Those bars for the smaller ones you said are $31 bucks are now $65!! @ Home Depot. Double the price! It is best to get a 16 foot angle that goes across the whole width of you garage. You want he pressure to extend to the outer part of the garage and not just the middle part of the garage. You also want to make sure you don't get self-tapping screws that go through your garage and poke holes. It will create bigger issues. The cracks will starts to wear down your garage even worse. Get a 16 foot STRUT Kit. This is the technical term. For a two car garage, it is 16 feet. So you can buy kits on-line with free shipping that comes in 3 sections that come together. You want to reinforce the weight distribution to the outside. Not the middle. Or eventually your middle will start doing the same issue in a few years.
Still working perfectly fine with NEVER any issues. But thank you for the info as everyone can benefit from useful tips and updates.
Thanks for making this video - I ended up doing the same thing. Got the steel 90 degree 8-ft angle section from menards for $23 and it fixed my popping and sagging.
What size was the angle iron?
Glad it helped
l just moved the top , existing bar down to the panel that was buckling ( later on l'll probably do what you did to the other joints ) THANKS FOR THE IDEA
Man your post was a year ago and I see I do have the top one! Lol. Did this work? Hope to get a response!
Now an 8 ft bar is like $60 at HD. Freaking expensive.
I haven't checked on pricing for a few years now so thanks for updating us all. But probably still much cheaper doing this repair yourself. I hope yours worked out well.
This is not a proper repair and will cause more problems in the near future. If you are going to install punched angle as a reinforcement, it needs to span the full width of the section and attach to the end stiles. The repair pictured here is just adding unecessary weight to the damaged section. If your garage door is sagging, the last thing you want to do is add extra weight to the center.
A "proper repair" is obviously a matter of opinion and my example is simply one potential method. But it was done over 5 years ago and the door has worked perfectly fine ever since. If you spend any time reading the various replies left to me on this site, you will find the vast majority are positive and support "my method" as also working for them. I have merely shared what was fast, easy, and inexpensive for me to fix my door problem and this solution has still held up.
just watch this morning 09-03-2022 done in an hour including the trip to home depot those angle iron are $60 but all the holes all lined up thank you
Thanks for the video. This method save me a lot of money.
Thank you. Was considering similar repair including drilling holes in the existing door to fasten the steel angles, but this is amazingly easier and worked great.
Glade I found this video. Was thinking the exact same thing and thought to myself I should see if anyone had the same idea. Happy to see it work. Will be doing the same this week. Mine is bowing at the bottom.
Did you try this on your door and did it work for you?
Lots of false statements
Thanks for the video. Added two 8 ft. 14 ga. Punch angles to my 16 ft wide door and it resolved the buckling. Menards has them for $22 a piece. Also adjusted the tension with the EZ set system and we are good to go. Menards also has the 16 ft garage door braces, not that expensive but a pain to get them home with our vehicle.
Thank you for your success story, and for the current pricing at Menards.
I have a 16' garage that bent the top panel. Would this repair fix it ?
Not seeing the actual condition of your door it is hard to know what might work or not. But most viewers of my video have reported great successes in fixing their issues. Depending on how badly bent your panel might be, some do-it-yourself fixers have used 16' strut garage bars rather than my shorter 8' angle bar solution. Good luck!
so hard to understand the angle of your camera
Men of class and culture, here we are again. Meeting under this beautiful RUclips video, on how to fix things so we can get our nagging wives off our backs.
Yes, I will gladly take credit for "saving marriages" as well as for fixing garage doors. My wife approves of your comment! :)
I had the same problem and this is an outstanding and super easy fix. It took longer to go to Lowe's and buy the brace than to install it. Thanks so much!
I just used this method to fix my sagging garage door panel with the Lowes 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 8 foot Zinc-Plated Steel Perforated-Slotted Angle and it worked perfect. $29.79 each (20) with military discount. I did have to drill one hole in one end since the holes did not match the hinge holes. Otherwise a one hour job and easy. Thanks for the video.
Thanks! I was looking for the dimensions as there are a couple options some more expensive than others. I have watched 4 videos for the same thing and none of them mentioned the dimension of the angle bar other than being 8' long lol
My garage kept caving in after opening the garage. We followed this design and that fixed it! Saved us $1500 from buying a new garage. Thank you so much!
Thanks worked great 👍🏽
My son and I just applied this fix. Seems to work well. The angle brackets did not align perfectly but luckily we bought the thinner gauge and it drilled easily.
Thank you, this did the trick for me with just one 8ft bar. Middle hole didn't line up for me though so I used my drill to cut one there. My garage door now opens and closes again.
Thank you, I just finished mine, solve the problem!
😄 way to add weight to a door and kill your springs. A cheap repair will cost you so much in the end. Added weight will not only kill your springs but you just shortened the life of your motor. Bravo
This repair was done 5 yrs ago and all is running just fine, thank you. I'll go out on a limb and guess that you may be a garage repair tech as they are the only negative commenters here. All other comments are regularly positive and quite happy with this "repair method". But thank you for your warnings as there are no guarantees with anything we do in life.
I can't believe this worked! Our garage door sounded like train cars banging together when it went up and down. This solved all the sagging and popping. The door goes up and down smoothly again. Thank you so much for sharing this idea!
Nicely done..only thing I would recommend is you use liquid nails or some.adhesive caulk behind the angle iron... The vibration in the door will eventually loosen those screws up. I.have found that the sheet metal screws that are on the garage door brackets only well the first time they are drilled. Or you could use bolts and nuts with lockwashers. Nice idea nonetheless.
Nice TIP and a good reminder that we should all be occasionally inspecting and reviewing anything that uses screws, nots/bolts, etc. Thanks!
It’s been 4 years now, how is it holding up?
Still works perfectly! And most viewers here have said the same...this fix worked great for them too.
I repaired mine the same way and works great. Thank you
This worked like a charm and was really easy to do. Thanks for the tip! Saved me some money!
What are these aluminum struts with holes called?
slotted angles~!
Slotted Angle Zinc Plated Everbilt 1-1/2in x 14ga x 96in
This was the same issue we had. I followed your advice and it fixed it! 👍
Hi @yurika , I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Since it has now been 5 years, how is it holding up? Any other changes or updates?
Still holding up like a charm! And you will find MANY happy viewers/fixers here that have used the same trick with the same great results. Good luck!
I don't know who would give a negative, but this worked for me. Ty
Yup, the ONLY negatives were for my poor video/audio (yeah, it was quick and dirty) and from a couple of garage door repair folks. I acknowledge their concerns and do warn viewers that I'm NOT a Pro and cannot make any assumptions that my fix will work for everyone. Any serious problems of course should be looked at by a Pro :)
Thank you for the video(and the others who fix it the same way). Took 10 minutes and totally fixed the sagging/buckling panel.
Great to hear and thanks for your feedback/affirmation!
Always good to share some good ol' fashioned domestic violence. Well done!
Awesome! You too RULE!
Worked great on my door!!! Thanks!!!
Thank you very much sir! 🍻 I had a couple of small tears in one of my garage door panels. The door had started buckling and popping and it was getting worse to the point we stopped using it. I thought I was looking at a new door. But, I found your video a couple of hours ago, went to Home Depot bought two strips ($13.83 CAD each!) of the slotted angle bracing, came home and got my ratchet out and 10 minutes later the bracing was installed and now my door no longer buckles or pops!!! 👍👍👍😁😁😁
Great info! In my case, the aluminum panels were bent due to the impact, so I had improvise bit differently. ruclips.net/video/bHf5cGy4Cd0/видео.html
Just fixed mine... added 2 8ft. sections almost identical to what you’re showing. Works like a charm for $70 opposed to the $600 garage door guy just quoted me. By the way, each 8’ section is a bit over 4lbs. each so the added ~9lbs in weight to the door is negligible/ nothing to worry about.
Worked great thank you I just bought two at Home Depot for 80$ and it only took 10 mins to put on!
Nice to hear yet another success story, thanks!
Pretty good job but you need to lubricate the screw with white lithium grease I recommend the genie brand in your door arm that hooks onto the door is not supposed to be straight up and down you’re supposed to have an angle on it and the J portion on the door is supposed to be 3 to 4 holes higher and then you are officially set but then the nut and bolt you put on the door arm is very loose so I recommend getting a different bolt or get a bolt and a lock nut tighten it up all the way then loosen it just a tad so you have a little bit of play to prevent movement Then you are all set
Hmm, thanks for all that feedback. I'll review my setup but I've got to say that I've had no problems since doing this video almost 4 years ago.
