Yet another feather stick video on the interwebz!
Just one in a sea of thousands of videos about feather sticks! Just a quick little video with various blades on a crappy little stick I grabbed from the wood pile to give all y’all my .02 on feathering!

Some background on my next project
Просмотров 1974 месяца назад
In March of 2023 (it’s June of 2024 at the time I’m making this video) I got a Swiss Army Farmer X, but it doesn’t come with a sheath. I got this sheath separately and it almost immediately began falling apart. So, I decided I’d try to learn how to work on/repair leather things and am going to attempt to repair the sheath myself! Worst case scenario I keep carrying the SAK in either my pocket o...
Cooking over a Fallout 76 inspired fire pit

Instant oatmeal taste test showdown!! A collaboration with @Wildcraftin_Homesteadin_Gal
Просмотров 83Год назад
Today it’s a collaboration with @Wildcraftin_Homesteadin_Gal in which we make three different instant oatmeals and do a taste test. All three are some variation of apple cinnamon flavor so we can do a true“🍎 to 🍎” comparison. Bob’s Red Mill, KIND, and Kodiak are the brands we try today.
Yaesu FTM-300 install - it’s a process!!
Просмотров 867Год назад
This is a video showing my installation process for the Yaesu FTM-300 in a 2019 Subaru Forester. It’s been in for about 2 weeks now and works great!! I keep forgetting to turn it off when I leave the car though and have left it on overnight twice. Just receiving doesn’t drain the battery all that much and I haven’t had any trouble starting the car the next morning however I don’t want to make a...

Important note up front!!! As far as I can tell this feature is specific to the PL-259s on Comet antennas and is not a feature that I’ve seen on other PL-259s. Another important note up front!! The actual disassembly starts @2:45 or so in case you don’t care about the back story and just want the details. I’m in the process of installing a mobile radio in my car, part of that process is mountin...
I’ve been away for a bit, working on general and got a radio
Просмотров 56Год назад
I’ve been away from making videos for a couple of months. I’m pretty sure I have previously mentioned that I have an FFC amateur radio license. The past 2 months I’ve been studying and preparing for the next level, which for me is general. Last week I took and passed the test for general (34/35 yay me!) so as a reward for my hard work and effort I bought a mobile radio, a Yaesu FTM-300

    Can you post the rest of the process? I am interested in swapping the shift indicator panel to the one from higher trim. If you can post the video of removing the center console and shit indicator panel, I would greatly appreciate it.

      I’ve looked and looked and it would appear I either didn’t record that part or I’ve deleted it. If it would ever stop raining perhaps I’ll redo this to include the other part(s).

    • @OkraKnivesandBushcraft
      @OkraKnivesandBushcraft Год назад

      Interesting observation. Deer do have some vocalizations they will make, including blowing air through their nostrils! As a sort of alarm signal. This is more commonly “heard” as a snort or cough/wheeze but I could see how it might be interpreted as a hiss! Bottom line is you were out getting some dirt time!!

    This was a total spur of the moment thing I did today. I need to get some more of the cinder blocks and some more of the bricks. It’s not meant to be perfectly uniform and near, I’m going for that Fallout motif.

    Great video, the only thing I can add is experience with the first aid stuff: put all the small items in a pouch, separated from the "oh, shit, thats a lot of blood" items. Pressure bandages and tourniquets should be ready to go and separated from other stuff, when you need a tourniquet you do not want to waste time digging through bandaids and painkillers

    • @OkraKnivesandBushcraft
      @OkraKnivesandBushcraft Год назад

      Hi, thanks for the good input! Sounds like you’ve got a story behind your experience, would love to hear it some time! What I’ve landed on for this set up is a dedicated blow out kit with a TQ and an Izzy bandage and a chest seal. The TQ is on the outside, the other items are inside the main body of the blow out kit. “Regular” first aid is in a separate pouch.

    • @OkraKnivesandBushcraft
      @OkraKnivesandBushcraft Год назад

      Good input! Definitely don’t want to overload it, in this instance it’s just meant to be some basics that you’d want on your person if everything were to get whooshed off in the wind.

    Looking good. Osprey makes some nice bags. I may have missed it (multitasking here on my bag lol) do you have a cook kit in there?

    • @OkraKnivesandBushcraft
      @OkraKnivesandBushcraft Год назад

      Thanks! Yeah that Osprey is nice. I’ve had it for a long time, IIRC it was a free birthday gift from a place in Wichita KS called Backwoods (that has since gone out of business probably due to giving out bags like this to people every year on their b-day). I have a couple of MREs, with heaters, in a separate container (Home Depot Homer bucket) in the back of my car. I’ve also got a little twig stove and a stainless camp cup to boil water as needed. Since my walk from work to home would be only 10-12 miles (as the crow flies vs staying on roads) having lots of food and the ability to prepare it isn’t too high priority. To that end I also have, in the Homer bucket, some Cliff bars that I can just munch on as I walk as opposed to actually setting up a cook situation. Keep in mind this is strictly a “getting home from work” for ME with my relatively short walk home from there. If I had a longer drive that’d be a different situation entirely. My worst stuck away from home at work I was 4200 miles away from home but that’s another story altogether 🙃🙃

    Coffee is very nice, your wood stove is very efficient

    • @OkraKnivesandBushcraft
      @OkraKnivesandBushcraft Год назад

      The coffee was pretty good! Coffee always seems to taste better cooked over a fire and drank (drunk?) outside. Once that little stove gets going it does a great job.

    Rocket stove?

    • @OkraKnivesandBushcraft
      @OkraKnivesandBushcraft Год назад

      Hi Beck! I would not call this a rocket stove. Just a basic "twig burner stove" or "stick burner stove". A rocket stove is going to be a different animal. Typically j-shaped with an induction system that draws in a large amount of air, whereas these twig or stick burners.... don't ;-)

  • @thefoundation3489
    @thefoundation3489 Год назад

    Nice audio, I like it! Where did you get that twig stove from?

    • @OkraKnivesandBushcraft
      @OkraKnivesandBushcraft Год назад

      The twig stove was in Creek Stewart's December Apocabox. I don't know who the actual manufacturer of it is; but if you search for twig stoves online you'll find lots of identical looking ones with different branding so if I had to guess there is one manufacturer of all these and they will just engrave your logo on to it for you.
