The mountain Giewont called The Sleeping Knight is a beautiful one in the Tatra Mountains. It's a bit difficult at the top (almost one person space) but I managed to climb it in summer :) I love other lower Polish mountains as well: Bieszczady, Beskidy, Stołowe, Świetokrzyskie, Gorce, Sowie and many more.

Poland being Catholic is very important. Without the lively and honest feith of our ancestors we wouldn't be who we are today. John Paul II gave us hope and strenght. Without it we would be a weak comunist country like in 50s or worse. I'm proud to be Polish and catholic. Amen.

Poland is really clean compared to Europe, that's true. From my own experience, I'd say it's something that's actually being taught here from a young age. I remember that in school we talked a lot about respecting public spaces, and my parents always reminded me of it etc. It's maybe just a small part of the reason, but I think Polish people, on average, are pretty conscious about these things-at least enough that city workers can then keep the rest under control. For example, I even have a habit of picking up loose cans or trash that I see on the ground when I'm walking by and throwing it into the nearby trash bin. As for the topic of people from all over the world-Poland actually has quite a lot of immigrants. Obviously, there are millions of Ukrainians and other Eastern Europeans, but we also have plenty of Indians and East Asians. For example, the Vietnamese population has been significant in Poland for many decades because they came here during the communist times. There are also still growing numbers of people from Africa. Honestly, I've never seen people being so respectful of Polish culture as those imigrants from Africa and Asia. It's a big difference between having people migrate for work, knowing they need to meet certain conditions to be welcomed into a country and that they need to adapt and follow local rules, compared to mass migration of people who aren't subject to any control and live off social benefits. Actually, with the huge Ukrainian migration now, and them having a lot of social support as refugees, it's sometimes them who behave poorly (I don't have anything against Ukrainians; I fully support them and know plenty of amazing people from there. It's just that it's the normal problem with mass uncontrolled migration that there will be a percentage of people who try to exploit the system.)

Poland is peaceful now, because it's winter time... I'm not sure how to explain it, but it's like the country and the people go into hibernation this time of the year 😂 the cities are much more lively in the warmer months, there's also a lot of tourists then (the city centres are super crowded then) so enjoy the peace and quiet while you can. Love the hat!

At one of the points of the Polish defense line based on the Narew River during the German attack on Poland from 7/10/39 to 10/10/39: 20 officers + 700 soldiers defended the strategic crossing near Wizna against the attacking German army consisting of: 3 divisions, 1 brigade, or about 42,000 German soldiers, 350 tanks, 657 mortars, cannons and grenade launchers + Luftwaffe aviation support. On November 30, 1808, a French army of 40,000 French soldiers + the 1st Light Horse Regiment of the Imperial Guard, actually the 1st Light Horse Regiment (Polish) of the Imperial Guard, 125 horses, stood at the pass in the Pyrenees in Spain. When the French troops were unable to capture the Sommosierra Pass and were falling apart, Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, seeing this, said "... leave it to the Poles..." Kozietulski, when ordered to attack the pass, raised his squadron and allegedly shouted: "forward, dog blood". The squadron of 125 horses captured the pass within 8 minutes. Italy, the monastery at Monte Cassino. It was full of Germans and heavily fortified. The Allied forces were unable to capture it. The Supreme Command sent a Polish corps to the monastery and the Poles, with the help of the bear Corporal Wojtek, captured the monastery. Wojtek's task was to carry heavy crates of cannon shells. The bear was promoted to the rank of corporal by the commander-in-chief of the Polish Army, General Anders.

It's amazing that in America you learn so little about World War II. After all, it began on September 1, 1939 with the German attack on Poland, and on September 17, Russia attacked Poland. Earlier, Germany and Russia had signed a non-aggression pact (known as the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact). The term Polish Underground State symbolizes the hiding from the enemy and the secret fight against him of the entire nation. But in reality, the authorities that existed on the spot actually hid in the basements, sewers, where all the institutions mentioned operated. To quote the encyclopedia, Polish Underground State: secret structures of the Polish state, existing during World War II, subordinate to the Polish Government in exile. They were a system of state authorities acting on behalf of the Republic of Poland, during the occupation of the territory of the Polish state by the Third Reich and the USSR. Poles saved Jews during World War II, even though helping Jews was punishable by death. Many died. The State of Israel honors those who saved them from death with the title Righteous Among the Nations. The Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem recognized the title "Righteous Among the Nations" for over 7,000 Poles. This is over one third of the "Righteous", and Poles constitute the largest number among them"

Poland is a royal country. There are hundreds of castles, palaces, and noble manors. You had the first prince of Poland, Mieszko I, mentioned here. Until the 18th century, Poland was a monarchy. The most important castle for us Poles is the Wawel Castle in Krakow. The place of coronation of many kings and queens and the burial place of rulers and presidents. The castle in Malbork is the largest castle in the world. In Poland, there is no problem with communication even if you do not know the language or a Pole does not know your language or English. Poles are helpful, friendly. Using English or another language will be more visible among young people. Because my older generation, due to the Russian captivity, we were forced to learn Russian. Hence, it is harder for us older people to learn English. There is no such thing as Russian or Ukrainian pierogi. You probably mean Ruskie pierogi, which everyone translates incorrectly as Russian, and here it is a region in Poland and Ukraine called Ruthenia (in historical times there was Kievan Ruthenia - Kiev is the current capital of Ukraine). During the Russian-Ukrainian war, the people who do not know geography and history change the name of Russian pierogi to Ukrainian. The bulletproof vest, its creation was not related to the difficult history of Poland. Poles often had to flee the country from enemies, of which there were many in our history for hundreds of years. The bulletproof vest was invented by a Polish priest who emigrated to America to the Wild West and there noticed a certain relationship, that cowboys who wore silk clothes were less injured by bullets. So he invented a vest made of different layers of fabric. This has now transformed into another discovery by a Polish woman who invented Kevlar. Fighting for freedom in Poland is because we are often attacked. Poland was partitioned three times. The last time Poland disappeared from the world map for 123 years (Poland was divided between Germany, Russia, and Austria) and it was not until 1918 that we returned to the map. But in 1939 Hitler and Stalin started World War II and attacked us again. After the war in 1945 the West handed us over to Russian captivity and it was not until 1989 that we returned as a free country. We have to fight for freedom all the time. Poles are about 75% Catholic. Mieszko I, mentioned at the beginning, incorporated Poland into the Catholic community in 966. Catholicism has historically had a huge influence on Poland. It is closely interwoven with Polish culture. Pope John Paul II, for example, had a gigantic influence, for example, on the overthrow of communism in Poland and then in the world. There were many priests, martyrs and lay people during the German occupation and the Russian occupation, who with their heroism and faith went down in history, often giving their lives for others. These are stories that could be read for months (examples: Captain Witold Pilecki, the Ulma family, Father Maksymilian Kolbe, Irena Sendler).

People change the name of pierogi ruskie to Ukrainian, not because they don't know history- quite the opposite. They do this because some people mistake ruskie for russian. And the region of Rus where these pierogi come from is much closer to today's Ukraine than Russia.

Perhaps thanks to such films, these so-called "doctors" and "engineers" from the Middle East will avoid my beloved homeland. On a side note. Fortunately, I know Krakow and I know what it looks like, otherwise, after such anti-advertising, I would also avoid Krakow. About monoethnicity. You mentioned history, so indeed, Poland's monoethnicity is a result of its history. Poland was never a colonizer; we were not like the Anglo-Saxons who traded slaves and transported people from Africa to America or Europe, or like France who colonized half of Africa etc. Furthermore, after WWII, when Stalin changed the borders of Europe to create Soviet satellite states or Soviet republics, he made sure that they were ethnically homogeneous. That is why, for example, there is practically no German minority in Poland, and Poles from Belarus or Ukraine were resettled to today's Poland. Moreover, our culture's long struggle for independence made us less interested in multiculturalism and we do not necessarily see it as something inherently valuable. Furthermore, as Poles, we do not have a colonial or racist history, so there is nothing to apologize for and we do not feel the need to integrate or blend in with communities with a different historical background. So your observation is spot on, but as I mentioned, it has historical roots. Some people think that multiculturalism is beneficial, but... you only have to look at the Balkans to see the potential problems, or consider the current conflicts between Israel and Palestine. So for now, the mono-ethnic model seems to work well in Poland.

These countries included Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia which was not covered by the USSR regime after the end of World War II. All the countries mentioned except Yugoslavia were occupied by Russia and Stalin. If you want to know more, give me some contact. I will also send you another opinion to read.
