I appreciate your comparison to mother! and the feeling of being completely trapped within the world of the film. Also a character note: it's terribly important to note that Paul refers to the famous painting wrongly as The Shriek. Another indication that he does Not belong in this world.

I think outtie Irving is doing that with a purpuse. He is shown to be on a quest to expose lumon and it seems like he is desperatly trying to stay awake all the time so that his innie will fall asleep on the job, probably outtie Irving believes that by doing so he will manage to get some conscious time while in lumon

The true Evil of Severance is that it takes 2 years to follow up on the first season of Severance.

I have been in a weekly film club since the beginning of COVID. Love it for how I now read the reviews and we drill down. This must be the last Scorsese film picked. I don't really like the film but you make a great case. I'll reconsider. Excellent work on your part.

Hidden gem is spot on. The film I often go to when people ask for "your underrated" movie choice. It may be better know perhaps if it was not Scorsese's and wasn't beaten out by Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. But this is worth its own viewing. Bit rock n roll, reminds me of Won Kar Wei talking about making Chungking Express: I needed some fun not making an epic and let my creative juices flow

This is really great work. I love the way you put the essay together, the pacing, the soundtrack, and the insights you offer- finally, the questions you end on and your own personal experience. Severance was one of those uncomfortable nine hours that I couldn't stop watching despite the overall sensation of ennui and instability the show creates. Thanks for putting this together.

What struck me most about the series was that I realized that the innies felt more alive than the outies and now I use it to see if I'm in outie or innie mode, it made me realize that I was living on automatic, it's ironic because they are locked up but they have the desire to break free while the others are the opposite.

Such good quality video essays always shine a different light on the discussed material, and I feel like I can experience the product again in a way and on a level, that never occured to me by just watching the series. This video essay adds a new layer to the show and is just so masterfully scripted and presented, that I'm instantly subscribed. Keep pushing on, *andewr*, keep writing those words. We're here for it and cheer for it!

This is beautiful. Have been obsessed with the show since it came out, and getting super hyped with the Season 2 release date. But this video actually wrecked me just now. Just got diagnosed autistic last week, and a lot of the concepts and ideas you were addressing, while masterfully breaking down the show, also hit home in a brand new way. Thanks for making this, my guy. 👌🏻🫶🏻

This show is so affecting and clever in its simplicity. It’s funny and philosophical. And then, it elicits huge feeling from those unnoticed moments when the mundane and the salient elide and coalesce into Ansari’s auteur disposition. And then there’s a distinctly foreign quality to it divulged in its influences and homages.

If your not in it 100% Why be in it Profound words from a healthy young man who has healthy examples. That is a blessing. Throw in trauma, especially childhood, or a bit of ADHD, or addiction, or ……. Life’s curve balls make even those who thought they were 100% in it, not.

I haven't watched the show, but the topics you talked about and the questions you reached were very intriguing. I watched the whole thing. What do we do when we sad? It is a question I think any of us have to answer on our own as one answer would not satisfy the other. I can't say I know the answer for myself as clear as I would like. Though, your video helps me think about it. Thank you for your video and your thoughts.
