Notorious B.I.G. - Everyday Struggle (Joe Mitri Groove Remix)
What headphones you use in this video? it is not VSX?
No. This is a listening headphone. Sony MDR1A. I have like 13 headphones and I always use different ones so I won't forget how they sound. So you might see me every time with a different headphone 😂
@@HomeStudioGuru Ahh i thought u dont need them coz u have VSX haha, i wonder if the VSX is for producing too, or its more for refrence, translation? Well if monitor speakers are useless in home, to deign kicks, or bass then i wonder how that works.
I use VSX mainly to reference my mixes. So instead of needing to go several places like in the car, phone, different speakers and rooms, now I just hear how to sound in VSX and I'm done. I only use them alone when I travel. Cause I don't wanna take with me more than one pair of headphones. Now about that you can't do a beat on your speakers, and if it's better to use on VSX. well it's only true, if your room is acoustically treated. Cause your room will increase the 50hz for sure, and will increase the decay of the sounds. So now your kick if it's 100ms it will sound at 50hz like 1second before it shuts off...that will cause mud between your kick and bass that actually don't exist in reality. It's just the room that is creating that which makes you make the wrong decision in eq and compression . If you have a good room like most studios, you won't have a problem with this issue.
@@HomeStudioGuru My room is horrible lol . 0 treatment, amd spealers are all over the place, its daddys home lol. Thatswhy i think VSX is good, i think the future will be focused on mobile mixing. In few years we have no issue with mixing on headphones i guess
I heard that u can also produce with them, like osmoen told that they dont use anymore even monitors, and then they are ones who say, noooo, dont rely on them on mixing
It's always in the results. If you use the VSX the right way and it gave you good results and great translation. Who has the right then to tell you they're not good? I found that they're good when I used them myself, though so many popular engineers said they're not good. But 100% I can get great results with them equally to my Neumann KH120 with Kh750 sub and even better. Don't let anyone tell you what is right for you unless you try it yourself and see if it works or not. Cause it's very subjective. For me I always say, if you have a proper room with proper monitors, you don't need VSX. But if you have a bad room with cheap monitors, then VSX is a must. This is not subjective, it's the truth.
@@HomeStudioGuru That means ur monitors are in ur treated room? Are u using amp for headphones? I appreciate for ur answer
Yeah I have very good monitors in a very good acoustically treated room. So when I compare my system in my room to VSX. They're totally close. I can mix on both perfectly. But VSX emulation is way better than my room in the low end. Especially below 50hz. Cause my room is small and low frequency act weird in very small rooms. And this is where VSX helps a lot. Regarding the amp. No I don't use an amp. VSX is 32ohm. So even your laptop output will give it enough power. But I use my RME Babyface Pro FS headphone out and sometimes I use my Audient Nero main output. But when I travel I use my Motu m2 output and it gives me a perfect translation as well. So it's very easy to power it.
@@HomeStudioGuru IS that VSX has crossfeed? In terms of panning, reverbs (hearing depth) etc? THANK YOU!!
Yes. That what the studio emulation is. Exactly as you hear in the studio, you get to hear in your headphones. So basically the sound will hit the walls and will come to both your ears in different time. I remember at the beginning of VSX and in v1.0. there were a lot of phase issues because of the cross feeding. But in every new version, and now we have v4.0, the sound got more clear and less phasy. Cause the whole technology was so new. In the last version and especially with the Yellow Matters room. Omg the sound is so clear you could hear a mistake on very very low volume. Soon they will release v5.0. can't wait what slate is bringing to the table in terms of newer technology and understanding how our ears work and other stuff that he mentioned in some demo video a while ago. Can't wait.
Any one wants to sale me a copy of the software? Purchase some headphones with out knowing the person didn’t have the software so I’m stuck with headphones that I can’t even used to there full potential. Does any one know if I buy one of the vsx rooms would I be able to used it ?
Unfortunately the room works under the VSX plugins..so without the main plugins you can't buy an extra room. What you can do is wait for black Friday and buy an essential model or second hand ebay VSX...you will have two headphones but at least you can use it .
@@HomeStudioGuruthanks I was able to take to them and give them my serial number and previous owner and they help me get the software!! Thanks for the advice though I was already thinking on doing your idea 😅 thanks 🙏🏽 ur awesome
@@BeatsnmotivationAmazing news. I'm glad you got it sorted out. Hope you'll enjoy mixing on these amazing headphones
My friend , I’m def not a beginner but the insight you brought to this was almost impeccable! Very genuine thanks again
Thanks man...I'm glad you enjoyed the video. There is part2 on my channel with more information on how to set up VSX. Thanks again for your supportive words 🙏
Hi! Question: so all I have to do before starting mixing is just put em up, setting my rooms and...good to go? Oh, I use Fl studio, do I have to put the vsx headphones plugin at the bottom in the master as you said? Thank you!
Exactly! That's all. Basically instead of hearing through headphones, you will be hearing through the emulation as long as the VSX plugin is on at the end of the chain.
@@HomeStudioGuru thank you! Well, I was skeptical to buy them at first but I think it is what I really need right now, since I have monitors (2 krk s4v8) but I rarely use them; my room isn't in a, let's say so "good position" and It Is not even treated😅 I think I will give them a shot Again, thanks!
Glad I could help. You will definitely be blown away and you will regret every moment you didn't have it before, and like me you will start having a fear of losing them or breaking them. For me I feel my heart is aching when I think they're getting older everyday. I think I will buy extra ones just to have peace of mind lol
Hey, sorry to bother you, but I would like 2 more answers if you don't mind😁 1-Let's say that I just finished a mix using these headphones...You said at 3:24 that if you disable the automatic feature that shuts down the plugin everytime you export, it doesn't do it for you...ok, but what if I do like this? What if I export with vsx still on? Do I get to listen to my track mixed with "X room" still emulated even without the headphones on? This kind of question would have some sort of logical and obvious answer, I know it already hahaha but I still can't get my head on this idk why😂 please forgive my stupidity 2- I'm pretty sure I will need an external audio interface to get the headphones connected, but the thing is: I have a Scarlett; is it good for them or do I need to get something better?
Don't worry man. You can ask me as much as you want. I enjoy answering. As for the first question. Yeah definitely you can keep it on as an effect. But on other systems it will sound like your left the massive reverb on your mix and will suck the groove out of it and will make it very far. But if it's an effect you're looking for, by all means, go ahead. As for the second question, a scarlet headphone is more than enough. I'm using it even on my Asus headphone output without an audio interface and I can nail an awesome mix. The resistance in this headphone is like 35ohm so it can be driven by anything. I just noticed one thing though. In some audio interfaces it kinda distorts, cause their headphones output was made for mainly high resistance headphones 85ohm and above, like Motu. I don't think you have this problem with your Scarlett, so you're safe.
Excellent video... very clear, great pace, didactic, step-by-step, fun to watch, kept me engaged for the full 39--40 minutes. Thanks! Will watch more from you.

@@HomeStudioGuru Sweet, thank you sir, would be much appreciated, mainly trying to understand how to compare, or to set a target or what to mix against, a ref or room or both, I was able to gain stage between the bypassed sound and the room sound, so needed to learn this piece of the puzzle. Have you tried Audeze MM-100? If so, how would you compare them with the VSX?
Not really. I'm planning to buy it, but I have so many headphones. I recently bought the Neumann NDH30 and found it super accurate and translates very well. But I never used any Audeze cause I have one of the best Plannar headphone HIFIMAN HE500.
I have a Fireface 800 but it doesn't work for some reason. The red host light stays on. I tried installing all the drivers that are necessary but it doesn't work. (Also have Totalmix FX) The firewire pcie card that I am using has a TI chipset so im not sure why it doesnt work. It has 2 fw 800 ports and 1 fw 400 port. The cables I currently use is fw 400 to 400 and fw 800 TO 400 (800 from the pc and 400 to the interface). But it still doesn't work. I am also using Windows 11 Pro. This interface used to work in windows 7 in like 2009 so i am confused. Could you help me?
Seems you have a driver issue. First uninstall everything. Drivers and softwares for RME. Restart. Install the driver for the Texas instrument PCIE by allowing windows to find the legacy driver. After it gets installed. Install the latest driver of Fireface 800 from the main RME website. Restart the computer. If it didn't work. Try to change the wire.
@@HomeStudioGuru When I try to install the legacy driver, it says its either missing or corrupted and when I restart my pc, there is a error that says "a driver cannot load on this device (ohci 1394.sys). Windows says go to the core isolation in windows security and disable it but windows security doesn't even load even with loads of youtube tutorials. Must be the memory integrity in the core isolation that isn't letting the driver loading?
@@Mxnveer_MKThen it seems you have some registry problems. If I were you and I know that's difficult. Best thing to do is to reset your windows and start all over again. Cause trying to clean the registry will cause more trouble if you don't know what you're doing.
@@Joeknowsit-ALL Yeah im gonna just try that if it doesn't work it doesn't work. Thanks for your help.
Great job sir, you have a new subscriber. 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks man. Glad I could help and thanks for your support
@HomeStudioGuru of course, my friend.
Silly question but if you use the EQ in the VSX software L, LM, M, LH, H does that EQ you added translate to the Output file when you master, or is it just for monitoring sound inside the software? TY!
It just works as a taste for your own ears in the software alone. It helps you in getting the sound to translate. Let's say you're used to the sound in your studio to be bassier than usual to get it right outside the studio. VSX emulation try to get it as flat as possible but it didn't work with some people who are used to having it bassy. So basically you fix it to your taste so it will help you in the final translation. But it won't change anything in the exported mix. It will change in your mixing decisions only.
Great video Subscribed , Just got mine today and going to try them shortly 😎
Glad I could help. Enjoy mixing
I might purchase soon. Do I mix master all in one session or wait to add the mastering plugins after the mix in the same session?
If your computer can take mixing and mastering, you can do that but I don't advise it. Try to master after a couple of days totally fresh on a different session. Your master will be more objective and more analytical. If you master while you mix, it will be more of a mixing decision from my experience. About the VSX, always throw it at the end of your chain on the mix bus if you're mixing or mastering bus if you're mastering. Supposed to be the last plugin. Don't put anything after it cause the whole idea is to hear what your plugins are doing in the mix in an emulated studio. You can't do that if there is any plugin after it.
Great video thanks man, got my vsx today can't wait to go back to my studio to try it.
Glad I could help 👍
The owner manual of the Startech Firewire PCIe card says it is optional to power the card with LP4 cable. What about you? Did you plug the power to your firewire pcie card?
Yeah. I never used a power adapter with my fireface. Even now when I'm using it offline through adat with Babyface pro FS. I'm still powering it through the FireWire cable.
@@HomeStudioGuruthanks a lot for your quick answer. Nice video by the way.
How do i identify problems in my mix? I do not know what I am listening for!
The best way for untrained ears to identify problems is either by training or by comparing your mix to similar mixes in the same volume, that's what we call referencing. I studied sound engineering, and we used to have the professor have a test for us that is very tricky. He used to let us hear a white noise, which is a full spectrum frequency, and then in the white noise he used to increase or decrease frequencies, and we have to figure out which one it is. Doing that in Pink noise is even better. This is the hard and long way, it will take you from 2 to 3 month to train your ears to figure out where are the mistakes in a spectrum of frequencies. The easy way, is having a referencing plugin like ADPTR AB right behind the VSX. So your song will be A and the reference will be B. You can chose at least 16 songs and match their volume automatically to your song before mixing and mastering. The moment you hear the 16 or whatever number of mastered songs and then you flip to your song, you will directly hear the mistakes in your mix. Always start the focus on the low end. How it compares to a mastered song. Followed by the low mid and mudd in the mix. Then look for the midrange and see how yours stands compared to a mastered song and look for the resonance frequencies. Then look for the high mid at 2.5khz and 4khz. Around these areas these frequencies are always harsh and resonant. Then the harshness in the highs. So with all these try to match the levels and frequencies as close as possible to a mastered song and this way, your mix will sound like a mastered song when it's finished and all you need is increasing the volume of your mix in the mastering to match the levels of these mastered songs. So it's a good practice to pick one speaker that you like a lot and use it as your main speakers. Dont jump between rooms while you're mixing. Train your ear one one speaker in a room and it will be easy to find out the mistakes easier when your ears know how music sounds on a certain speaker.
So if I flip the phase on the bass and the bass sounds a little louder and better. Do I leave the phase flipped?
Yeah the rule is if what you hear sounds bigger and louder, it means you're in phase, this is what you leave it on. So test it several times and make sure it's the louder one and leave it there and mix on it.
@@HomeStudioGuru Awesome! Thanks man! Great channel btw
Thanks man
Thank you! I've had my headphones for awhile now but was never able to get a mix to translate in my favorite rooms. I got it now!
Glad I could help.
Nah...
Cool
Hey would you recommend these for producing as well or only for mixing/mastering? Im about to start producing again on ableton and just found out about these.. if you dont recommend them for writting can you list some good ones.. i was looking at beyerdynamic 900pro xs
They're super awesome and very light for production. You don't need to use the emulation app with them. They're not super flat without the app but they're really good, light and can be worn for 10 hours without knowing they're on your head. But if you want something different, good for all kinda work. I advise for the Neumann NDH30. I have both VSX and the Neumann that I bought recently. And I love both. I just wish VSX hardware is on the same quality of the Neumann. That's my only concern. I'm always afraid to break the VSX. I have like over 10 headphones, and never had that fear to break them. Other than that, I don't think anything out there competes with the VSX technology as an emulation.
Cool video! Thanks
Thanks
What do i do when i render my mix. Do i leave the bypass alone?
Yeah the VSX plugin by default is set to bypass automatically...you can make sure it does in the setting of the VSX.
I bought Slate Vsx just after watching this vid :D I was really hesitating to get Audeze MM-500 but I think Vsx will do the job, you convinced me !
I'm glad I could help with your decision. Take your time with it and don't be in a hurry to learn it. Every room has a time and learning curve.
@@HomeStudioGuru Thanks man! I was wondering after your vid, when you use a room to show you something (harshness for example), you then modify your mixing in this same room or you go back to a main room to make mix modifications ?
Right now my favourite room and speakers are the midfield genelecs in the yellow matters room. When I did the video I didn't have it. So now I do all my mixes on these speakers and when I finish I go check on other speakers and rooms and cars
@@HomeStudioGuru Great thx ! I guess after the checks you go back to the yellow matters room to continue the mixing. Cheers !
Exactly...you have to choose a speaker in any of the rooms to be your main speaker...like in your studio. These are the speakers that you learn very well, and everything else is just translation.
😔No se cual comprar si senheizer 650 o los vsx slate digital 😢espero tu respuesta❓❓❓🏁🏁mil gracias
I have both hd650 and the VSX and I assure you there's no comparison. VSX beats the crap out of hd650 in terms of low frequency, high frequency, and translation to other systems. Sennheiser hd650 though they saying good, it's my least headphone. It sounds and translate so wrong. If you want something to beat the VSX you will need to look at Neumann NDH30 or Audeze MM100 or if you can afford it MM500.
What if we really like how the studio sounds, can we export the mix with the VSX plugin enabled?? Does anyone do that? Or is that not advised?
You can use VSX as an effect on a certain track..it will give it a reverb room effect. But I don't advise that on the whole track. Cause you're hearing the effect in VSX. But when you move that to another place, it will be phased and the low end will lose its punch. VSX was made to help you hear your mix and edit based on what you're hearing, which is supposed to be the true sound coming out of your DAW. But there are no rules, you can always experiment.
Awesome tutorial... But do you really have to use the headphones since the sound is processed anyways? can't you use your studio monitors? since the signal is processed anyways thru the VSX plugin?
Thanks. You can't use your monitors cause they're under the law of physics of your room. You can not standardise the sound when each person has a different room and different speakers. Vsx was made for Mix translation outside your studio. Wasn't made as an effect plugin for speakers. Though you can still use it as an effect in an experimental way, honestly, there are way better reverb plugins that can do that. All that you have to focus on is, when you finish your mix in VSX, how would it translate outside your studio? In the car, on a Bluetooth speaker, in the club, or on your headphones. That's why studios pay millions of dollars for room acoustics so engineers can hear the real sound and it is coming out of the speakers without the interference of the room? This way, you can edit the sound itself and get perfect translation. Vsx save you millions of dollars and get you inside these studios virtually.
@@HomeStudioGuru Ok, but I can still hear the mix being affected in my studio monitors... I just hate mixing in headphones, its an extremely unrealistic and artificial sounding image. BTW, I'm also a SAE grad lol
Yes you can hear the effect of VSX emulation on your speakers. But as I said above, they won't translate. Unless your room is 100% flat and your speakers were 100% flat and the emulation was set to work in your room on your own speakers. Anything else, is just some room effect on your sound that is not gonna help you in anyway in your mix.
@@thewedge8823your room (if untreated) will still affect the sound coming out of the speakers regardless. which is why the vsx headphones was made for people that don’t have a well-treated room. it’s purpose to give you a real studio space that emulates rooms with good acoustic treatment that gives you a realistic sound without spending money on a real studio.
I was contemplating returning them. I’ve been trying to mix through them for the last month since getting them. I’m so used to my monitors and doing car checks in my SUV that my ears are not trusting what I hear on the VSX. I will try the tips and tricks from this video. I really want them to work. I can see the use for them and I think I just need to approach the VSX with a different mindset.
Hold on to them. I had the same feeling the first month I had them. It takes time for our mind to realise the difference between a headphone on purpose head and a room mixed together. All that you should think about, is translation and not how they sound. If you set them right exactly to your ears and profile and do a mix on them, it's supposed to translate right outside the studio. If it didn't? Try to find out what you did wrong or even thought it's right. Also, it all depends on how right was your room. Cause everything you're hearing, you're comparing to your room. I fixed my room frequency response based on the Yellow Matters Midfield and didn't Try to fit my VSX to my room.
Helpful video. However, whoever put 2pac’s vocals over this beat…well they didn’t even place them correctly. 🤦🏼♂️
Thanks for the video! I've also just upgraded my system while crossing fingers to be able continue using my old trusty 2007 FF400 - It works smooth as butter - yet it seems to have an issue with the sample rate, related to the windows system. yet - I've noticed you have in the settings the "sample rate" written in BOLD TEXT - I have it the same way, and I'm pretty sure it's not okay. It shouldn't be bold. I have some issue from time to time if playing windows audio (media player / firefox) while Protools is running. The fast fix is to change the sample rate back and forth. Couldn't find any clashes on any possible setting - but on my previous windows 7 it wasn't bold and there was no issue with playing windows audio simultaneity. Anyhow - even if there's no solution - the upgrade to windows 11 on a new PC is definitely worthwhile !
Agreed...it worked with me too but I kept having dropouts every while and then when I record...I tried to solve it and couldn't...eventually bought a second hand babyface pro and used the adat to connect my fireface 400 offline... Now I have all the in and out of the rme fireface 400 running perfectly offline through babyface pro. So always there is a solution.
Thanks for the video. Helpful. Can you please tell me what the 2SPC button does next the the fave 5 section. Thanks in advance.
Thanks, man.glad I could help. The 2SPC is an automatic 2-second silence to give your ears enough time to reset before playing in the next room. Our balance through hearing happens through room reflection, in reality, we cannot jump from one room to another.
That remix sounds dope!💯💯💯
Thanks man.
1:16 If you use Cubase add it to the Control Center, which Studio One got the "Listen Bus" idea from.😂
True. I was one of the first who requested this option from Presonus on their request forum, me and thousands others after I saw how useful it is in Cubase.
Love the explanation! I am just starting out learning to mix and master, and could only afford VSX (no studio space sadly). Do you think I can learn to mix on VSX alone, until I can afford to build, or get hired to work at, a studio?
Thanks. Definitely, you can. As a matter of fact, if you start with VSX, your standard will get so high when you wanna build a studio. Cause you won't settle for an unprofessional studio after you taste the real deal.
thanks a lot for this video! edit: my ff400 actually works BETTER with windows 11! it had really minor bugs every once in a while, and now it works totally flawless
Most welcome. Glad I could help 😊 🙏
Very helpful video. Thank you for this. Im thinking of getting them.
I'm glad I could help
So is this a plug-in for ableton. Or just it's own software
It's a standalone and a Vst plugin. Works with any DAW that support VSTs.
Hi Joe, Thank you or that tutorial, it was super helpful and a great starting point. I just got these headphones yesterday. I have a question for you, (and would also be keen to hear others' thoughts on this if you see this comment): When you are at the composition phase of the track (ie when you are just starting out), do you bypass Slate VSX or do you use near-field monitor emulation from the very start? (I imagine its the latter but i just thought I'd check)
Thanks mate for your comment. I'm glad I could help. Now regarding producing music with VSX. I don't like to use a headphone or even my studio system when I produce music. I'm a producer and engineer and learned not to mix or even try to be critical when I'm producing music. I don't want to think about frequencies, I just wanna make music. So, I have those 2 small logic speakers that I produce music on, they keep me out of the critical engineer mind. But where I use VSX in production is while choosing low-frequency samples, like Kick and Bass. As 50hz in my room has a long decay time. So a kick that has a length of 120ms will stop at 1 full second. I need to fix that, but 50hz solutions cost a lot of money. So here is where I use vsx to choose the right kick that fits with the right bass in terms of time. You can always do that with an LFO plugin later on in mixing, but somehow, I like it this way. Also, it helps me find the best microphone recording spot in my studio. Though my studio is treated mainly for vocals, the accuracy of VSX helps me with mic placement to get the best sound possible, was it acoustic guitar or vocals. Other than that, I don't use VSX till after I finish my mix on my studio monitors. I usually fix the kick and bass with VSX first, and I don't touch them till I finish the mix on my monitors Now it doesn't mean you can't use VSX from the beginning. I used it once while I was on a trip. I produced a song, mixed it and mastered it on my laptop only with VSX. So you can do that, and you won't notice any latency while it's on. I heard so many stories of people doing both scenarios. So to each their taste of doing things. But both scenarios were successful. So I don't see any problem using it from the beginning if that would help you in any way through your production journey.
@@HomeStudioGuru Thanks so much for your valuable input. I think I will get used to using it from the get-go as I’m going to be travelling in 2 months and will be away for a while. When you’re working on kick and bass, do you have a preferred room? And what kind of monitors would you use for that (still near-field?)
I usually like Mike Dean's farfields. Cause its low is massive with 2x18inch subwoofers. Perfect to see what's happening in the very low end. Specially that I do a lot of hiphop and electronic music with very heavy sub bass
The best vsx review thank you
Glad I could help
This is a great video.
Thanks man
@@HomeStudioGuru I just ordered them.

I was thinking of getting this. You shed some light on a few things for me. Great video!
Glad I could help. 🙏
@@HomeStudioGuru I had one question i just thought of. My question is output. What are you listening from?... direct from computer or sound board or interface.? I'm wondering if either outputs will color the sound due to individual pre amp amplification/noise. Curious. :)
@@mcsstudios101I have an Rme fireface 400 connected to Audient Nero monitor station on my Studio PC. And with my laptop I use motu m2 interface. Abd though I jump a lot in between the 3 interfaces I didnt see any effect on the translation. The only time I felt something is wrong when I connected my VSX directly to my asus laptop headphone amp. The sound was a disaster. Other than that you won't feel the difference as long you have a good interface
@@Joeknowsit-ALLwill scarlet solo be ok? Has impedance of max 200ohms
VSX is 32ohms. It's very very easy to power it. The main thing is to make sure the headphone amp is not so powerful that it doesn't support low ohm headphones. Only then, it will cause distortion.
Please Give me the Link of the product of the same device because I have one Fireface 400
Heres an eBay link to a Texas Instrument chipset. Make sure it's only Texas Instrument? Nothing else will work. Even that's what RME recommended 20 years ago when I bought their fireface 400. www.ebay.com/itm/115947214919?epid=2164347383&itmmeta=01HY4T24BBV27VPZ6A2WPC2R8Z&hash=item1afefe1847:g:jT8AAOSwqCJlMS9I&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8K4BVsgoR4RkG7HO81j0wLPHKZn1W1RsnQL%2Bx3e86nPvrkeZ6O%2F69bjLbef1x22sTZaDMxQfhyj2e%2FQVvdCqWAbZOfwpGKP2sNpG8Y19qMJUfU%2BKQMZOGbakCgWwprQCp3BcKV%2B2yNkuVGZyhHrindWTZK1JLEjdDw3Mrun1fBuHBfd4iLhHX%2FkS80uMMGi%2FsG0lGSGxECQDvwc5jqt9kUEKHkP6wvbtzPL6fsnRrJvkR9oFEsRbMwRjY8QzUXt0%2BA%2FzFaqDEMEetGoTxvc2czyrbAD5m%2FYU1tLA4%2BvwtG6NlEgwpjsvuhcRg61qXv4ZCw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBM3sWImvFj

I am considering getting the VSX, thanks to you now.

Amazing video...! Thanks...!
You're welcome
Well, like others said, very good explanation, but I'm still a little lost of how to use it.. so let me see, I record then when i proceed to m mixing, I will mix with the VSX using a room, not mixing as I mix before with the other headphones... and at the end of exploring and tweak my mix around the rooms It should be a better mix?, I was listening to project's that I finished before VSX and to my understanding they sound very good, but when I add the VSX at the end and start listening on different rooms is very awful, I might doing something wrong here..
Did your mixes, that sounded good before, translated well outside your studio or headphones? Or it sounded good only on your old headphones or speaker system in the studio. The idea of VSX is not how it sounds. Sounding good doesn't help much here, otherwise, no one would have used the Yamaha NS10 ever. It's all about accuracy and translation. Like if you mix a song in a studio, does it sound the same in the car, in the club, on headphones, or small speakerphones? That's what the VSX or a calibrated studio was made for. To be accurate enough to get your mix out to the world. Now if your mix already translated well and sounded good everywhere after mixing in your studio or headphones, and you find it sounding weird in VSX, it's one of these problems. Either you were mixing on headphones before, and never mixed on studio monitors that are far from you or something is wrong in your setup or you might have a faulty VSX, or your wire is not plugged properly. If you never mixed in a studio before, VSX will sound ad weird to you as you enter a real studio now and hear your mix for the first time. No matter how good it was mixed on headphones, it's a big mess, cause there are only a few headphones out there that are accurate enough for mixing, and none of them is less than 1500 dollars. So all I mentioned above are questions I usually ask to solve a problem. Any of these questions could be what is happening depending on your answer. So I will wait to see which scenarios are you in and then give you the right answer
Is it necessary to use the VSX headphones exclusively? Does the software work with ANY headphone?
No. The software was designed to work perfectly, translation-wise, to the VSX. Now you can try it with any other headphone I doubt you will get the right translation.
