How to FIX the BACK ANGLE of Your SQUAT! | Brussels Barbell
When you squat at Brussels Barbell, following the Starting Strength method, one the first thing we try to establish is the more horizontal back angle of the squad (low-bar). It can be kind of a mental struggle when you look at it the first time and that's why our Head Coach Steve Ross will explain it to you. He will go over all the incorrect positions as well as the preferred form.

      @@KingBtheGOAT95 because we teach the clean as well to the general population, we want to keep the same solid footwear for both. The slight heel raise doesn’t impact much and most people feel the slightly increased flexion in the knee helps them use their quads more effectively to get the bar off the floor. That being said, if you’re already very strong, then do whatever the hell you want :)

      Maybe try lighter work that specifically targets neuromuscular activation of the glutes. Possibly they are just misfiring or the actions are being taken over by larger, stronger muscles because they aren’t used to activating at that position.

      My guess is he’s probably okay. Mainly because we all know that when you leave the plates on a bar, there’s a gap between the bar and the floor. Probably enough space to fit a neck without any weights actually crushing you. That’s the hypothesis at least. Though he may have injured his back if he tried to lift it with bad form as a last attempt to save himself.

    On the first clip there is literally no place for safeties. Many of us don't have the privilege of having a gym around that has decent squat racks. Particularly places that don't have a strong lifting culture. Not trying to argue, just adding nuance to things. It's easy to judge people for not having safeties, but many cheap gym equipment manufacturers just don't have them. The gym I go to mostly has technogym equipment plus some crossfit gear, no squat racks, no safeties on benches, for example.

    • @brusselsbarbell924
      @brusselsbarbell924 Месяц назад

      Judge people for not having safeties? Who on earth is judging lifters? If someone is going to squat and is not sure of being able to complete the rep, they either find a spotter or adjust the load on the bar. What is the alternative? Try to throw the weight off you back and potentially hurt someone else, damage the gym or their equipment?

      @19DannyBoy65 Месяц назад

      @@xxxyyy5983I definitely agree that everyone should learn and be competent in bailing a squat, but it’s definitely best practice to still use safeties if possible because a) shit happens and b) in a crowded public gym there is the marginal chance that bailing could hurt someone or damage something if somebody/something is too close to you.

      It only takes a split second during the drive up to begin tipping forward, and that's a position that's extremely difficult to recover from. Genuine question: Does the need to use triples on the press mean that the NLP is nearing its end? If I remember correctly it is suggested on the "advanced novice" section of the gray book. Another question: Are those programming changes (on frequency) relatively new in SS? My coach mentioned that there were a few changes in programming which aren't in the books yet. And keep up the good work. I have been watching a few SS channels and your videos are concise and to the point.

I'm inly 5'5" and weigh 175. I am thinking about DL again but maybe stop at 315 or so just to keep my backside strong.
