Off Road Roos member Robert finally gets behind the wheel of a Subaru Solterra for his first trail ride experience! Joined by Garrett from Subaru of America, they tackle the trails during the 2024 Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience and share their thoughts on how this all-electric SUV performs when the pavement ends.

Go to sleep with the sounds o f nature like we do on our Off Road Camping Adventures. The sound starts out with the ambient noises of a campsite in the countryside near a brook in the evening, and transitions into a rain storm to lull you to sleep for 8 hours. Let’s hope for a larger battery and a Wilderness edition for ‘25. They are very nice and solid EVs except for the slower charging and range.
That would be awesome, but, we expect it would be a little farther down the road. I know @SubaruAmbassadorRobert is hoping for solid state batteries soon. The new Subaru "strong hybrid" with over 600 mile range looks really nice. I know we have a lot of members who'd love a good hybrid option.
I love my solterra to bits, and I bought it to mainly tackle snow here in Norway and so far it has done an amazing job at that, only gripe is that I wish it had some more range as the rest of the car is just perfect.

No, this is in a Wildlife Management Area.
Simple, but very useful information. I just bought a 2024 Outback (too bad, there is no Wilderness model in my country), and planning to go overland camping. Not some hardcore off-roading, just some places where a 4x2 wouldn’t be able to reach. You make good videos, you will get more subscribers in no time. Keep up the good work…👍🏼👍🏼

Yep, many of the vehicles out there do much better with all four planted on the ground, that's for sure.
Are these stock Wildernesses?
Yes, every one of them is entirely stock. With some upgraded tires like the Falken Wildpeak AT3W's that grip better and can be aired down more, they perform even better.

That's an interesting thing to say. Not true... but interesting (especially since it's not true). As a side note, SoA was out there with us when *they* drove *their* cars (the three Wildernesses) up the rutted climbs. 😉🙃

I increased my break over angle by adding rock sliders. :) As long as I get at least 50% of the vehicle weight past the obstacle I can now teeter-totter over much higher angles. Works great so far.
LOL!!! I know Subaru Ambassador Robert intentionally drags his Ascent's belly over stuff when there's no other option. He's looking to make a full slide bar for each side that integrates onto the car, kinda like the aFE Power sliders for the Outback.
@@OffRoadRoos Yep! We have an Ascent as well. We have Rallitek's rock sliders installed. Totally worth the cost.
These are just amazing. Wish I could afford one of these. Absolutely amazing. Viva Subaru. Sending the other car brands back to the drawing board.

LOL not the driver. We couldn't get to the climb we wanted to (the roads were flooded out with a three foot deep puddle across the entirety of one of them).

I want a CTW soooooo dang bad
The Forester and Crosstrek Wilderness editions are WAY MORR capable than this video suggests. See Sarah-n-Tuned videos to see them tackle a seriously difficult hill in X-Mode 1 ( snow and dirt).
While not quite as long, the hill that the CTW and OBW did is actually about the same as what SnT did (well, actually, the ruts on our hill are worse and put the side of the car/door a few inches from the ground). The ultrawide angle lenses don't help. Join us in our next adventure to the spot and you'll get a good idea of how steep and rutted it really is. Sadly, the "road" to the spot was flooded when we had the Forester Wilderness out on the trails.
I think we had more ruts but a shorter climb. Believe me, the team wishes we were out west with even more terrain - but, Subaru Ambassador Robert has done some tough terrain out there, with all sorts of Wildernesses. They're all very impressive on the trails, especially considering they're cars.
The outback is just too long and the approach angle kills it

X-Mode 2 "Deep Snow/Mud" for all three... when @SubaruAmbassadorRobert tried with the Ascent, he was in normal drive mode.
