American Expat social-distance-hikes in the Black Forest
Просмотров 6684 года назад
Freiburg is of course in the South WESTERN corner of Germany. Whoops! Hey ya'll! In this video I go for a social-distancing-hike not far from where I live in Freiburg, Germany on a small mountain called the Kybfelsen. Starting point: goo.gl/maps/jdSLzVC5ki4PxoBb8 End point: goo.gl/maps/vcoD2RAmRRt5TSSt5 Wash your hands!
And the other 3 Freiburgs in Germany?
I have gained admission to do my masters in Freiburg Can't wait to start
V nice
2:40 based
Thank you for the video, James. I'm visiting Freiburg next summer. Can't wait!!! 😄
0:38 That's false. The old painting you showed isn't from the Middle Ages. It was the Fortress of Vauban around 1700. St. Martins Gate and the Swabian Gate has nothing to do with this Fortress. The only remaining Buildings are Breisach Gate and Kanonenplatz.
I love the clip @7:21, it shows how efficient streets can be if we ban cars from some of them. It looks like a hub tram station, compare the experience of transferring a train their vs in Time Square, I know which system I'de rather use!
Humans are the cancer of the earth, I hope the whole generation of this two-legged creature will be wiped off the face of the earth.😢😢😢😢😢
I studied abroad and lived in Freiburg in ‘04-‘05. An amazing city and such great memories made there. I especially loved the bächles! Vielen Dank fur dein Video!
Interesting background music..
Amazing video! 😍 I’m German and my family is from Freiburg. We’ll visit again in few months.
Thanks for the video. Freiburg is a wonderful town, but you missed its most important legacy. Edmund Husserl, the founder of Phenomenology, and Martin Heidegger, arguably the most influential philosopher of the 20th century, were both at the university in Freiburg. This would be like going to Athens and not mentioning Plato and Aristotle.
He’s giving an overview of the city.. I couldn’t care less about the folks you mentioned.
My German teacher in 11th class was, you will believe it or not, the grandson of Martin Heidegger xD
Thank You for that super cool little tour of the best city in Germany (my home since always hehe)
Luisa Carlos please see this
Hey I recently got a scholarship from DAAD to study in Freiburg university and watching these videos is making me so excited.. can't wait to visit that beautiful city
I'm moving here in October I'm so excited
I hope you have a great time in Freiburg.
great video....I am born & raised in Freiburg but live in the UK....well done! would have been helpful to mention that Freiburg is one of the greenest cities on the planet in terms of dealing with climate change etc.
IS jobs availables there
Hey James. I'd love to chat with you about some footage I need of Freiburg for an environmental documentary I'm wrapping up. I've searched stock sites and I'm not finding much. Please let me know if you are interested and I'll fill you in on the details. Thanks!
I'm from Germany, and i have to tell ya, your German is perfekt!
I almost forgot. There is a wonderful restaurant just to the south up in a woodland meadow. I think it is St Valentine. Or something like that.
I lived there in 1984. Best place ever. I want tongue an huge shoutout for getting the butt in the Muenster. Omg the Wuerst. Well done video. If I could I would move there tomorrow. My wife is from Madagascar so we would fit right in. Vielen dank.
Come on back!
Everywhere in Germany is gorgeous!!!! The Bavarian Forest and Alps are the best though!!

So nicely done! I loved this and will probably move to Freiburg this autumn.
Hi James, I live in Florida and am planning to move to Europe in about 4 or 5 years. I love Germany (my great grandfather and before all lived in Germany). I dislike snow, hence living in Florida and am trying to find a smaller town/village in Germany where the weather isn't too snowy or cold. Freiburg looks to be pretty decent weather wise considering the majority of Germany doesn't have clear skies and sunny weather like florida. Can you give me a little feedback on the weather there year round and if you have any knowledge of other areas of Germany with decent weather.
Well, FREIBURG is good choice bc it´s known to be a warm city with a lot of sun. The snow is up in the mountains of the blackforest, so Freiburg doesn’t have much snow like i.e. the region of Allgäu where the famous castle Neuschwanstein is located. But Freiburg is not a big city. If you’re looking for sth bigger, fancier with more culture, exhibitions, theater etc. you should consider Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Leipzig or Dresden.Good luck!
The weather is like Portland Oregon minus the rain. Flurries on occasion, but snow doesn't build-up.
@@sm3675I think Its sunnier, warmer in summer and colder in winter than portland
This seems to be a very charming city, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
Great, just got an admit to uni of Freiburg, will surely love this city 👌
Loved this Video . I was born in Freiburg. A long time ago . Miss it ! 😎
Which is the nearest international airport
Bale is the nearest airport. Then Zurich or Stuttgart / Frankfurt - all around 2 hours by car.
Sehr schönes Video !
Good
Great video! Even for a local ; )
Why did you moved here? I am living in Freiburg, was also born here. But acually i wourld prefer to live in USA ;)
1:48 is completely wrong! The “Bächle“ were never built for waste but for water for the horses!
You’re right! Waste often collected in the Bächle but they weren’t originally designed for the purpose of waste removal. The Freiburger Bächle have a long and storied history. Get an overview here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freiburg_B%C3%A4chle?wprov=sfti1
I live just 150 km away from Freiburg and never been there :P .. Thanks for share this video James, this year I would definetely go there :D
I’m so glad I could share such a beautiful place with you! You should definitely come for a visit.

hello james, is there a local page for house rentals? im looking for a house or apartment in freiburg
Check out Badische Zeitung online (I found my last apartment here), Zypresse, or ImmoScout. Happy hunting!
ImmoScout24
Love this Vid, very calming.
Great video. Just one thing: As far as I know, the "Bächle" were actually used as water for extinguishing fires so you wouldn't have to transport it from far away.
Actually the Bächle were used to clean the streets from all the stuff which were thrown onto the streets. There were the Bächleputzer who swept the dirt into the Bächle and then out of the town.
Great vídeo! Good imagens, nice story, very cool editing style. And the city seems cool . Please make a video about cycling or outdoor activities in Freiburg. Cheers!
Great video. My wife and I want to move there in a couple of years. My wife is German, but we have been living in Colorado since 1993. My question...if you can help. I am wondering what the housing costs are like. From what I can see, it's pretty darn expensive. We would like to buy a house there. Can you give us any ideas of what a house costs there? Maybe any websites that I can get on to see what the homes go for there. Any help would be appreciated. Craig and Elisabeth (craigsommerdorf@gmail.com)
Hey Craig! Housing is in fact very expensive here in Freiburg. Here is a link in German that I think could help you get an idea of what the prices are like : www.immowelt.de/immobilienpreise/freiburg-im-breisgau/wohnungspreise
@@jamesingermany332 Thank you so much!!
Pretty cool! Make a video about Universities in Freiburg
Hi, I'm David and I also live in Freiburg. I just saw your videos right now which I really like. Great Job 👍🏻 you seem to be a cool Guy!! How's your fb or instagram if I may ask? I would like to be friends with you. Oh and I'm 30 btw 🙂👋🏻
Hey , gut gemacht ! Schönes Video ! Greetings to U.S.A , from Germany ! Best wiches, please be Healthly ! Stay together !
If only I knew how to speak German. This looks like my ideal place to live.
You can learn! I moved here with very basic German skills and I caught on fairly quickly. Don’t let the language hold you back!
After 10 Years think you can speak german 😂😂😂🤦♂️
No worries due to being so close to several borders a lot of people here speak decent English
You will be surprised, how many people can speak english here. Give it a try one day! Yet we are always happy to see that someone gives his best shot and at least "tries" to speak the local language here though 😄💛
The best way to learn a language is to live in the country and here a lot of people can speak english also
The Dreisam is channeled through the city. Kohlrabi is a vegetable in the cabbage family.
If I lived in Luzern, I would visit Freiburg! Thanks for the video
Thanks James for sharing..I am from a very small village Fryeburg'Louisiana named after my great grandfather Woodrow Frye and his brother. They (I think may have been from Freiburg (or their family). Anyway checking out Freiburg through RUclips. Lovely historic town. Great picturesque area..and the old Medieval history is charming and fascinating. My daughter is engaged to a man from Germany and he is encouraging her to investigate our roots..Love thlittle canals with water and lovely architecture. Duncan's for sharing.
