Pro tips for DIY brides, grooms, and fmthe floral design curious!
Roses can sometimes be a mystery. why didn't my healthy roses open? Well, it literally might just be that you have a variety which doesn't have a good aperture, and it's natural state is just a tighter bullet shape!
So if you want big, open roses, buy varieties that naturally open up!

Welcome to Petal Savvy! We are here to help you achieve the DIY Floral of your dreams! With detailed how-to videos, and professional quality flowers, supplies and decor, DIY flowers has never been easier. We can't wait to see what you create!
Please send me a list of roses that are big?
@@sblaise32 I don't have a list, but a quick internet search should be able to get you a decent list. If there are some particular colors you are looking for, I may know a few. If you work with a wholesaler, they should be your best resource.
This video was so helpful! Do you have any suggestions for where to get the base if we aren’t able to get the one you suggested from accent decor?
@Erkr-j7t glad it was educational for you! There's a seller on Mayfair selling them for $137 each, look up Bourdieu Plant Stand, it's the same stand and even the same photo from Accent Decor. They're a reseller so it's expensive but if you plan to use them often they're a great investment. If you're a consumer, maybe check with some local florists or event companies to see if they have harlow stands for rent. They come in 28" and 40" amd 28 are great for a standard elevated centerpiece.
So helpful, thank you!

Hello did you tape the floral tape to the clear holder, or what can of tape is that
@@lifeofnikki99 it's Oasis anchor tape. It's like skinny duct tape!
Thank you for sharing your expertise I like your video because it is doable and classy looking I just wonder where you order your fresh flowers from
@maggie4948 as a pro I order from various wholesalers. Check your area for floral wholesalers, some will sell to the public (just not as cheaply as they do to florists who buy in bulk amd don't pay sales tax because our end clients pay the sales tax)
So beautiful!!! You're talented. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Belíssimo ❤
I ordered proud white roses for my wedding, they were all sold out of playa now I know why lol are proud roses a great alternative if I want to twirl / open them ? I’m getting them in 3 days before
@leticiatavera2625 I am just now seeing your comment. How did you like the proud? I didn't use them, so I wouldn't have been able to give my opinion. I hope they worked well for you!
❤😊
This was a great video
I love the video, was very clear and helped me a lot for my wedding ! I was wondering where did you get the base for the flowers ? Thanks a lot
From a company called Accent Decor. They only sell to people with resale licenses.
So very helpful, making 15 arrangements for my sons wedding and using all your tips! Thanks for sharing!!
Glad I could help!
Can i make it one day before my Wedding ? The flowers will not dye ? Also where can i stock them during the night Before thé Wedding please
Really great step by step. Thank you!
Can you make this a day before the wedding?
Yes, as long as you keep the floral foam well hydrated. I do not recommend hydrangea during super hot months or I'm arid climates. If your event is in a dry or hot area, use more greenery and roses or other hardy flowers for fullness.
Beautiful job! Very Inspiring. Is the 9in lomey dish larger in diameter than the top plate?
No, but as long as your base is sturdy, heavy and stable, you can use something narrower than the lomey.
Very beautiful arrangement, you have a subscriber! Can I ask how much this is, rough estimate please?
To make yourself? It depends on where and how you get your flowers, but for a diy-er in 2024, probably around $130-150
@@petalsavvy8463 thank you so much! ♥️
Hi!! On average how much would something like that cost?😊
It really depends on your market and where you're getting the flowers. I would say 130-150 each diy cost.
For each one or for how many?
This is amazinnggggg. Thank youuuu
Please make more videos.
Thank you so much!! Your videos are very informative and nice to watch!!!
How much do the flowers cost doing something like this DIY?
That's a great question! It depends on if you have flower wholesalers near you that will sell to the public or if you have to order online. I would say 125-180 in most cases if you're buying in bulk which beats the $300-400 you will pay a florist to make it!
Beautiful! So, are glue dashes and/or double-sided tape truly enough to secure the lomey dish to the pedestal? That's currently my biggest concern!
Not really! As long as your lomey is heavy and your riser is super stable!
Thank you for your quick response!@@petalsavvy8463
What kind roses are that big roses you used for that arrangement? Is escimo roses big enough? Making my daughter’s wedding flower arrangement . Thanks
The names of the roses are listed in the video. Eskimos are great roses but are much smaller.
What are the examples of the Big Roses?
@thebeautyoflife.6716 Playa Blanca and Soul, soul is a little creamier/vanilla and Playa is more white. Tibet is another big white rose but it has fewer petals. Mondial is another good large ivory rose.
What’s reasons for designing in the dish vs a lomey?
It is a lomey :) I just said design dish instead of lomey because a lot of people don't know the brand name!
Love this! How much is something like this?
It really just depends on where you get your flowers and if you want it that size, or bigger or smaller. To diy this, on average, probably around 125-150
If I wanted to make a smaller arrangement like this, how many blocks of foam would I use? I am using the same type of stand just shorter. TY! 😊
I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing this. It depends on how much hydrangea is going in it but I would still say at least a whole brick.
Bonjour! 🥰🥰☀☀
I am sorry, I just saw this. Hydrangea does not hold up great in foam so I would say leave the hydrangea until Friday but you can start with greenery on Thursday.
Absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤❤😍😍😍♥️ you are such a great help
Thanks so much for this, it’s exactly what I need! Planning to make the evening before, how far in advance shall I take out of water so it doesn’t get on the dress please? Thank you!
Maybe about 20 minutes, and just have a towel to dry the stems
I am interested in how to transport this type of arrangement in a car in the heat because I know hydrangeas can’t stand heat and can wilt easily. Basic people don’t have coolers in their vans/cars so would these be able to withstand car heat with regular AC or should they be assembled at the venue?
So sorry I just saw this. Have your ac blasting before taking it to the car, get it in and out asap!
Wonderful Job 👏 I like that you were so precise to say how much flowers you used and what kind are they. Very professional thank you.
Love your tutorial and the music is loud😢
Hi pls where do you get your flowers
I get mine from a few local wholesalers as well as wholesalers who ship in bulk to me via southwest cargo. If you're going to DIY, I recommend checking your city's floral wholesalers to see if they will sell to the general public as well. If not, flower moxie and fifty flowers are a great resource.
Thank you so much
Beautifully done!
If I make my own wedding centerpieces and buy the flowers when in terms of timeline should I get the flowers/ do the arrangement…how good are the flowers for? If I make the centerpiece 2 days before my wedding (a Thursday) will the flowers still be fresh for my wedding day (on Saturday)? Thank you for the expert advice !
It depends on the flowers. Hydrangea I would do the day before if in foam. If you're doing vases with water you could do Thursday :)
@@petalsavvy8463 thank you so much! Have you ever heard of/seen a florist that would use artificial flowers brought by the bride to replace half of the flowers for a lesser price ? That’s another option I was thinking of rather than just all my diy
Beautiful!
What variety of roses are you using? Beautiful!
The full recipe with variety names is listed at a little over 3 minutes in :)
@@petalsavvy8463 thank you so much!
Do you even feel the need to put chicken wire around the foam? I'm trying to assess the "break point" where chicken wire is a good idea. Thanks.
Great question! When doing this size, I do not. It wouldn't hurt to do so but this isn't a huge arrangement so it's more manageable.
Glad to see you are posting again!
Thanks Peri! Haha this was a while ago but I'm glad you enjoy my videos. :)
Espectacular
I cant fund soul roses near me. Would Quicksand work for this? Or would mondial be better? I like the off white/off pink looks. Also, if I'm getting married on a Sunday, and want to do the reflexing on the Saturday, what day should I purchase the flowers for? Do we reflex as soon as they arrive or should we let them sit and naturally open for a few days before we reflex?
If you want more of a blush-nude, I recommend quicksand. You also can get away with just spinning them and not have to reflex because they open nicely on their own! :) I recommend receiving and processing your flowers (remove all the leaves and thorns) on Thursday for a Sunday wedding.
@Petal Savvy thanks for the reply! Would you spin them on the Saturday or when I process them on Thursday? Also, I keep hearing that they need to be a little dehydrated/old to reflex nicely. Should I still be storing the flowers in water from Thursday-Sunday?
They shouldn't be old or dehydrated!!! They should be left out at room temperature, in water (make sure to remove leaves first, then cut the end of the stem at an angle, then place in water within 16-18 seconds after that cut) for a couple of days. They need to be a little open already to reflex nicely. If anything, you could remove from water maybe an hour or so before reflexing to soften the petals, but you don't want the stems to go limp, it's risky business! I posted a video on getting nice big roses, I would recommend checking that out. But as for quicksand, you will be pleasantly surprised how much they open overnight, and they will be even prettier by Saturday. Spin them as you design, select your flowers, spin, design that piece. Wash rinse repeat.
What color are these flowers? Is it a blush or white?
These are more ivory/cream.
Hi, love your all tutorials! Just a quick question? What kind of roses are you using to make this beautiful bouquet?
Very well done. Gorgeous.
Is there a special tape when working with florals ?
You want to use waterproof anchor tape for arrangements like this. I like oasis brand the best.
Thank you so much for your tutorial, can you show us where to get the flowers from And can you make A large centerpiece with small roses from Costco please Thank you so much in advance
Hi Maggie! Can you please elaborate on making a large centerpiece with small roses? Do you mean small full sized roses or do you mean spray roses (the ones with multiple tiny blooms on one stem?). Do you want roses only in a round shape, or roses with greens? For a low or a high centerpiece? I don't buy from Costco but that's because I'm a professional designer by trade and work with wholesalers. But you can definitely order through Costco. I'm not sure if they allow you to request specific varieties or if it's just by color. I can assist in some cases with getting you florals depending on what city you live in. Email me at hello@petalsavvy.com to see if I can help. :)
Can you give a tip on when to purchase roses so it’s nicely open instead of bulb looking I’m afraid it withered if I take it out of from fridge too soon
I usually get my flowers on Wednesday for a Saturday wedding and leave at room temperature. You also want to make sure you get a rose that opens nicely. Some are more bulb looking and don't open as well as others.
@@petalsavvy8463 wow! Thanks for the reply❤️
@geraldinehablado5510 you're welcome! I actually made a video about it too but I'm not sure it uploaded properly. It's on our tiktok though @petalsavvy
Can you do a tutorial on arches and rings also?
I'm currently working on revamping Petal Savvy and creating new videos, we will have an arch tutorial available 😀
How tall of a riser did you use?
Thank you for your question! 29.5". For elevated arrangements I recommend a minimum riser height of 24".
Hi! I want to make the centerpieces for my wedding. Would you recommend this arrangement for someone who’s never made an arrangement? How much (give or take) would this be for 10 of them? Purchasing everything at the flower district?
That is a great question! A recent mother of the bride who followed this tutorial made 10 for her daughter's wedding, she said she spent roughly 1200 on flowers, foam and tapers, etc. And then the risers were extra. It depends on your local market or if you want to order online, though. :) if you have a local flower market you can call and ask them for a rough estimate based on the quantities (the recipe is listed in the video, multiply by how many you want to make and factor in bouquet flowers too). Or do an online floral source. We are working on establishing a way to help people source flowers as well, but it's still in the works. :)
Soo beautiful, I love it
