You give good tips like putting the threads to keep the gasket in place. Do you think its mandatory to use gasket sealer, is it in the manual or can I also do it without? Any ideas why the gasket failed in the first place?
Thanks for the kind words. I've replaced the gasket with and without sealer. Both had a "gas tight" seal. With sealer, there is more "peace of mind." The latest replacement was due to a water leak suspected from the manifold/ elbow gasket. After disassembly, I discovered a very small leak where cooling water entered the elbow from the heat exchanger. The previous gasket replacement was part of replacing the entire elbow.
@wendellcrim8647 thanks for specifying. I just don't want to buy the sealant for a single use every 15 years.
I have this stuff, would this work?: Quality and properties Putty-like paste basing on water glass For durable sealing of exhaust system parts Quick and easy application Ease of disassembling Physical and chemical data Basis: Water glass Consistency: pasty Colour: dark-grey Smell: nearly without odour Temperature resistance: up to approx. 700°C Processing temperature: +5°C - +30°C, best results during room temperature ph-value: 9.8 Density at 20°C: 1.68 kg/dm³ ± 0.02 kg/dm³ Solid content: 71 ± 1 % Storage stability: 12 monts if appropriate storage provided (=10°-25°C, relative air humidity of max. 60%) Size: 60 g and 170 g tube
@@boatMatthias Looks good to me. Temp resistance to 700° is the key criteria.
just bought into eero mesh 6e router at amazon
Just tried to do it on a 40 year-old Penta 2002. Was able to slide the gauge in the intake valves but not the exhaust valves. They must get looser from wear and tear or do they get tighter?
is it still available? location? thanks
Sorry, she under a sales contract. Thanks for asking.
What if no fuel comes up to the vent screw? Even if fuel comes to the manual pump.
I don't know the answer. I've never had this happen. It would be a good question for a Volvo Penta service center.
I sent a message I would like to come see the boat if it is still for sale
Thabks ror reply.I have one built in 1986 abd it has the lecer. I got fed up with the suction feui pump failing due to pooriy fitting couplingsi,I converted it to an electric feul pump. Now runs kike a dream with a beat you can dance to.
Valves can be set cold. You should be turning the engine over on the crank shaft nut as you are putting strain and wear on the fan belt and alternator bearing. There is also a decompression lever which allows you to turn the engine more easily.
All good points. I was unable to get a wrench on the crank nut. After consulting a Volvo shop, they confirmed there is no decompression lever on the model I have. I searched all over the engine with out finding the lever and began wondering if my eyesite was failing.
Is starlink just allowed 1 router? I connect start link with eth adaptor to switch, then from switch to router access point.but when i try to connect my second router it cannot connect,unstable..i try to connect to my DVR,the result same. My question is starlink just allowed one router access point?
maybe you are trying to do NAT inside your own LAN? you can try configure the router access points as bridged access points
Thanks for your effort. I will do this on my 2003 tomorrow (if I dare). I guess I will need a new gasket.
Always good having a new gasket available. You won't need it if the installed gasket remains in one piece while removing the valve cover. Your 3 cylinder will have max compression at 120 degrees instead of 180 in my 2 cylinder. Have fun.
There is a lever on the engine at the front which you turn that releases the compression so you can turn over engine easily while doing tappets. Would not advise using alternator nut as it could cause belt slippage and also putting strain on the belt.
This model of the 2002 does not have that lever. Even though it is depicted in the manual, I couldn't find it. Called Volvo. They confirmed no decompression lever on this model.
A diesel mechanic showed me how to change my fuel filter. He had me fill the new filter with fresh diesel (NOT the fuel from the old filter) to avoid having to pump the fuel pump so many times. I only had to pump it about a couple dozen or so times before the bleed valve stopped blowing bubbles. Here, you had to pump it at least 350 times and bubbles still came out.
That is an option. Pouring diesel has a big chance of spilling it in the cabin and leaving a foul odor in the living spaces. So, I chose to pump the closed system.
great vid. Could you, by putting the starlink in bypass mode, disable the wifi and only use the hardwired setup like yours - no wifi enabled?
Interesting question. I don't know the answer.
in bypass mode, the starlink router will only supply power to the dishy. all routing functions will be disabled. all routing can be handled by a third party router
I'm changing the fuel filter on my VP 2002 today, this is exactly what I needed, thanks! The Volvo filters are hard to find, unless you want to ship them from Sweden. The current filter, a NAPA 3358, was on the engine when I bought the boat in 2023. I am replacing it with a WIX 33358 fuel filter.

Did you have to do anything with the wires?
What do you mean?
I put a housing over the wires at the baseboard.
Subscribed! Clear and concise, thanks for that. The only problem I have is that I can't seem to find that belt, as well as other parts for my fresh-water cooled Volvo Penta 2002. Even when I go to a reputable dealer that services Volvo Penta they say that they can't find parts either, including the 966906 belt. Some have suggested that I take the existing belt to a NAPA auto parts dealer and see if I can find an equivalent.
I get my parts from Pacific Power Group. They have been very helpful. www.pacificpowergroup.com/product-category/volvo-penta-parts
@@wendellcrim8647 Thanks! I sent them a request for the v-belt.
Do you have a link to the switch you are using? What is the best switch to use? Thanks.
I think it came from Amazon. Switches are pretty generic. Not sure if there is a best one.
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for the kind words. Happy sailing.
Oh that's too bad you missed the tunnel🙁.

You're welcome.
I'm trying to get my PC to connect to the starlink's wifi. My cell phone is connected to it. Do I need to make any adjustments to my PC?
Check Starlink help. My PC is hardwired with ethernet cable which is why I installed the switch.
@@wendellcrim8647 My ethernet adapter should be arriving from Starlink any day now. And I bought an internet switch. So hardwiring should solve the issue?? I want the Wifi to work as well if I need for any reason.
Nicely done Wendell, thank you. : )
thank you
Would you be able to show how you ran your raw water from the water pump to your anti shiphon and then back into the heat exchanger? I assume that's where the black raw water hose is headed...
I'm using the OME anti siphon setup. I replaced the original U pipe while the in the engine space for some insurance.
Hello Wendell. Once set up, how often should the calibration be checked. If you have a power cut and it's raining and your gauge tips 10 times say, will those 10 tips be recorded? Just asking. Jim.
Best check with your device source.
@@wendellcrim8647 If your device has battery backup then you should be able to measure rain at any time 🙂

Can you connect an extender to the ethernet switch?
You can place that switch 100m away from the router. (100m with a good cat6 100%copper cable, 65m with a cheap one)
Thank you! @@cotasa
can you help me on my home pc with starlink?
Just plug it in (if you don't have an ethernet port, get a usb-ethernet adapter. If your pc has wifi, just connect through wifi
i wonder if i can put another router on that aux port,. my house have alot of walls that makes wifi weak in bedrooms so im planing to put another router in the hallway thru that aux port ,. will that works?
Bro did you find out? I have the same problem
I have same problem,it didn't allow router more than one.
@@AngelaMelgar-p4c you can but you need to set second router as access point mode
ditch the starlink router and get yourself some mesh routers, also plug that starlink cable directly into the switch and you'll get greater speeds!
Any access point would do the same, and if you are not far from the starlink router, your wifi will work just fine
@@cotasa I way less significant download speeds while using the 1st starlink router.
@@NatMGby ditching, you mean bypass mode?
@@TechDripPH this comment was made before any updates were released regarding mesh capabilities
@@NatMG yeah I became curious because of your comment and did a little research and found out that it is possible to use the dish without the router powering it. Thank you
Awesome! Finally someone can explain something USEFUL in about a minute. You're a champion!
You forgot to replace the seal on the threaded shaft!
What seal is that???? I’m just about to change my filter…
There is a rubber washer/seal that goes on the threaded filter nipple. It cones with the filters. Looks almost like a garden hose sealing washer just smaller diameter

I'm looking to do the same swap. I'm hesitant to drill the hole for the new unit without knowing it'll work. I don't see how 8 wires were required and now only 6 are; to do the same thing. I found a Canadian seller that still has the Link 20; so I could do a one for one swap, but their site isn't working. I'm hoping they'll call and I can order over the phone.
