Steve Vai and Joe Satriani have been speaking badly of Kirk Hammett for many years, but it is objective that this cover of theirs Enter Sandman is horrendous, both for their sound, which has nothing to do with the sound of Metallica, and for their voice, horrible. Unfortunately for them, technique and virtuosity with the instrument are not everything in music, there is no emphasis in this cover. And that's why Metallica is up there and they're not.

They maybe guitar hero’s, but they can’t do this song like any metal band…..I feel likes watching two guitarist try to play metal…..

So Kirk with 25% of their technical ability wrote a much more memorable solo. And this, kids is why compositional skills are more important than techical prowess. Metallica has covered plenty of songs, almost each of them better than the original. I have yet to hear someone covering Metallica and improving on the original. And if Joe and Steve can't do it....good luck.

Kirk's choice of notes for his solos are not very melodic and very dry. That's what I kind of not like Metallica. No doubt great energetic band but still.
