Frederick Delius - Violin Sonata No. 2 (with score)
Beneath the shimmering surface of Delius’s little-known violin sonatas are the latent exuberance and nostalgic rapture which have made his orchestral music so popular. Delius developed a unique musical language which leavened the post-Romantic heritage of Wagner with French Impressionism and European and Afro-American folk idioms; an intoxicating mix that moved Sir Thomas Beecham to call him ‘t...

Bellini-Chopin ~ Casta Diva for Piano Solo
A rare transcription by Frederic Chopin of the well-known aria by Bellini from his Norma. Composed in 1831 and dedicated to Pauline Viardot (1821-1910). Played very beautifuly by Ingolf Wunder
This is not an arrangement made by Chopin. It can‘t be found anywhere in his piano works. So who made this arrangement?
The scene: Druid High Priestess Norma, Athamé knife in hand, is cutting the sacred Mistletoe from the grest oak tree, and leads the congregation (the chorus!) in devotions to the Casta Diva, the Chaste goddess, the full moon. Listening to Lilli Lehmann, Maria Callas, Beverly Sills, Joan Sutherland, all available on RUclips as well, gives an idea of how differently yet equally beautiful each one interprets this Aria! Chopin loved the voice and believed in phrasing as a singer phrases. FUN FACT: this transcription by Chopin was dedicated to Pauline Viardot, daughter of Manuel Garcia I, sister of Maria Malibran and Manuel Garcia II. Beverly Sills had a direct connection, as follows: *Beverly Sills' Musical "Geneaology"* *Manuel Garcia I* taught his three children, Maria Malibran, Pauline Viardot, and *Manuel Garcia II.* how to sing. *Manuel Garcia II* invented the Laryngoscope; he authored books of vocal exercises, and taught *Mathilde Marchesi, née Graumann,* who worked as his assistant in vocal pedegogy. *Mathilde Marchesi* taught Emma Calvé, Emma Eames, Dame Nellie Melba, and *Estelle Liebling.* *Estelle Liebling* taught, among many others, *Beverly Sills.* For Beverly Sills' entire career, Estelle Liebling was Beverly Sills' only teacher, from the time Ms Sills was 7 years old until Ms Liebling passed away in 1970. AN UNBROKEN CHAIN FROM THE TRUE GOLDEN AGE OF BEL CANTO!
Lyrical, laconic, lovely style was a great influence on Bunny, and through him to Miles.
Thank you!
there´s a A# in the melody that´s actually important, where you instead play A both times... other than that it was beautiful
I never knew until last night that there was a piano transcription of my favorite aria. (Monserrat Cabelle outdoor performance is amazing.) Yunchan Lim playing this piece alone would have been worth attending the concert. His encores were my favorite of the spectacular evening.
Heard this last night at CH as well. Alone was worth the performance.
Beautiful! Though I'm a great admirer of Chopin's ouvre I had never heard this before. Thanks for sharing it.
Yunchan Lim
Could I ask you to share the sheet music?
sure, you can find it here: imslp.org/wiki/Casta_Diva_(Chopin,_Fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric)
Lim Yoon Chan made me come here. He played this as a Encore on 2024.1.25 and 26 , in Seoul Art Center and Lotte Concert Hall , SEOUL. Thank you for sharing.

OMG!! A sharp in bar 17, please!! (WTF!)
Grande !
really good performance! surprised to run across this randomly. wish you had better recording equipment it sounded excellent
Thank you!
I know many people say "one of the best" on all concertos but this, surely deserves it
Banal themes, no great timing. Trying too hard to sound magnificant, but turning out hokey and pretencious. It doesn't go anywhere. It deserves to be obscure.
34:41 Most quitetest timpani in the history of mankind.
I cannot explain this, but the trombone line at 33:44 is sooo nostalgic ...
this concerto is a gift to my ears
Paralysis by analysis.
16:58 heart wrenching (especially 17:25)
3:15, 4:56, 7:26, 8:42, 19:28, 32:44
Thumbs down because of the Bar 17 and 34 A natural note. Totally ruins the atmosphere of Bellini’s and Chopin’s piece.
Bravo bravo bravo super wow brilliance fantastic grandiose music concerto
I could fall asleep to this. So peaceful!
Wiklund is WAAAAAAAAAAAy to underrated
Too*
33:40 wow this melody line is awesome!
One of my favorite pieces.
Glad seeing you here!
Same!@@kofiLjunggren
As accordionist, i love this concerto. I can't understand the comments of the people that criticize this work. They must listen this work a lot of time.
Divine!
Perfect word for this!
Per la Signora Clizia Gallarotti.
Thanks for the upload. Although the first few minutes are captivating and one might get fooled into believing it will continue in the same way, the longer I tried to listen on, the more I kept thinking to myself : "dear me, why didn't this guy leave composing alone and left it to Grieg, Saint- Säens, Massenet, Gounod Rach and friends who he keeps borrowing from at each bar?" Fast forwarding did help a bit, the pomp & circumstance of the finale are great for Hollywood but as a stand alone concerto this doesn't do anything for me, - too much haywire, erring, directionless soul searching up and down. Get me back to real classical music with logical structures.
Except this is a romantic piece. Structure can be subverted to and for emotive affect. First listening to the piece so i am not commenting on the structure. But i found it worth listening to.

Beautifully ,beautifully and very soft . 🌸🌸🌸💙
Does anyone know where the sheet music to this might be obtained?
Did you manage to find it?
@@domenicodeliso5489 Haven't tried yet - I'm traveling in Australia - home next week - and then I'll put my internet resources to work! Thanks for the reply - I just love the music. I heard Sutherland and Horne in l970 and Norma remains the Gold Standard of bel canto for me (and I'm obviously not alone).

whoa, this is really beautiful
Que coisa mais rica, mais divina!!! Um presente sublime nessa vida!
Que bom que goste!
It sounds so peaceful. Like a prayer - which is basically what the song is anyway.
This splendor of words can not attach it
Great work! Good transcription of a very considerable artist.
So soothing I became a cloud.
I start to discovered this Concerto, two month ago. Only today I can feel the beouty of the first mvt. I hope Adolf Wiklund can be more famous, beacouse this work is a lot of.
Gracias Pedro, me alegra mucho!
