I live in California, (I don’t pay for electricity separately, it’s included in my rent) however, I line dry like everything, even in my tiny 300 sq ft studio. It’s worth the effort because my clothes last so much longer, even the cheap items. I use the drying sparingly or as needed in the winter. I loooooooove those drying racks, I’ve had them for 5+ years.

in the Nordic countries and I think in Europe in general it's not considered old fashioned to hag you clothes up to dry inside or out all year, although many have a dryer now there is still a lot who don't and it's quite expensive using a dryer for everything plus it's not the best for the fabric as the heat tears on it, it can also change the shape if the fabric is natural, another benefit with hanging fabric out to dry is the sun removes stains and yellowing on white fabric, don't however hang colored fabric out in the sun for long for the same reason it can be bleached, it wont happen in half a day though and if hanged in the shadow it wont happen at all
