E Gay St from N 4th St to N Front St Columbus OH 2024
E Gay St in downtown Columbus OH already tends to have big things going on from time to time, but over the next couple of years the city is planning even bigger things with the stretch of E Gay St from N 4th St to N High St, making it more pedestrian-friendly and fixing up venues.
So I thought I should film E Gay St, from N. 4th St to N. Front St., to show how it currently looks. There's a number of older buildings on this street; they've mostly been repurposed, but they still retain that early-1900s charm.
I filmed that High Spirits festival on E Gay St. last month (you can find the video on my channel), so you can see what the line of thinking is with developers. So watch this video to se...

Holidays at Columbus Commons
Просмотров 3914 часов назад
It's close to Thanksgiving, so you KNOW that means the holiday displays and lights are making their appearances in cities nationwide! In Columbus OH, that means the Columbus Commons, located between S. High and S. 3rd St in the Downtown area, gets lighted up from now until New Years! So I show off what was turned on Friday, Nov. 22! Granted, like last year when they premiered, it was cold, wind...

As the name says. As I was walking back from shooting the Chantry Square mall video in Reynoldsburg OH, I had gotten across the overpass on Brice Rd. when I decided to shoot a little video of some of the rest of my trip. There are a few changes from the way I remembered the area. The Tee-Jaye's restaurant is gone now; another restaurant has taken its place but weirdly, the old goodbyes from Tee...
Chantry Square Mall (DEAD MALL)

A couple nights ago I watched WallieB's video about the Target Greatland store at Chantry Square Mall being torn down. That really hit me. So I decided to go out there myself and see the rest of the mall. Back in the 90s and early 2000s I frequently went to the Chantry Square Mall. Granted, I didn't just go there; I also went to the Brice Outlet Mall, which was next to it, the Penney's Outlet S...

This is a short video showing the sights while walking on the Greenlawn Ave. Bridge. A nice view of the changing leaves for Autumn, as well as the small dam near the Scioto/Audubon Park, a great place for fishing. There's even a couple of what appear to be cranes flying around the water. Train tracks go under the East side of the river, with a great view of the trees. Essentially, when you are ...

And here's the final (for now) video from my trip to Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus OH. I intend to go back soon to do a video on some of the famous people interred within. Which building is the one you're showing at the 6 minute mark of this video? I always knew that building as the old Wasserstrom warehouse. Back in the 90s, there was a haunted house that ran for several years on the ground floor that I used to work at. I've been all through that building and would love to tour it now to see what it looks like. Do you know the condition of the inside of the building? Is it abandoned or occupied? What are they going to do to it? Is there any other information on the history of that building? Your video tour really brought back some nostalgic memories of my experience in that building. Thanks!

      All I could find on this property (apparently on 479 S. Ludlow Ave) was that it was built in 1890, so I assume it was somehow connected to the Hoster Brewery in some way. Movato mentioned that it was worth $3,655,121 estimated, but also according to them, isn't for sale or rent, so it's possible someone already took possession of the building. I don't know what plans are for the building though.

    Also in the air conditioned pavilions,.....you'll find fresh made LAMB BURGERS. I always joke that the lamb comes from the losers from animal judging barns. But I do not know if that is true. Lamb burgers are way better than beef burgers,....they are leaner meats. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST,.....If you want something common and basic,....there is usually a vendor selling fresh made, BLTs....that is Bacon, Lettuce and Tomatoes sandwiches on toasted bread. That to me is boring, and common, but they better than home made.

  • @Davett53
    @Davett53 4 месяца назад

    Other less known treats: GO TO THE DAIRY BARNS, Where fresh made ice cream is available. I think they keep it basic. Chocolate, vanilla and strawberry are your choices, but it is better than store bought. You can get in a small throw-away waxed cup, or in a traditional cone. ALSO LOOK FOR: In another pavilion or the same one,....ICE CREAM MADE WITH REAL HONEY. It is always vanilla, but it is better than traditional vanilla ice cream.

  • @Davett53
    @Davett53 4 месяца назад

    I always like that they sold older-fashioned treats, that were common going back to the 1920s. You can find SALT WATER TAFFY being stretched on large machines. Watching the machines do their thing, pulling the taffy, which is how it is made, it combines the flavors and aded flavorings. Saltwater taffy has fallen in popularity, because so many new confections have replaced it. They probably still have THE TOM THUMB, miniature donut machines. One gets to watch a self contained, automated, machine that produces fresh, tiny, delicious, little donuts. You get to see the batter being poured, into a metal channel filled with hot cooking oil. The batter pours out and automatically forms into the donut shape. The tiny donuts which are approximately 2 inches in diameter, begin cooking as they float down down the channel of hot oil. They bob and jiggle as they merrily move along. At the end of the channel, they flip out, and drop down into a fluffy pile of powdered sugar. They are pretty cheap, price-wise, and you get 5 to 10 of them per bag. The are best when eaten right away, while they are still hot, although they can be taken "to go", for later enjoyment at your house. I also recommend the BELGIAN WAFFLES. Here, the vendor takes a wrought iron, or aluminum form shaped like a multi-petal flower, and dips it in liquid batter. Next they set the form which has a long handle, into a roiling caldron of hot cooking oil. That immediately fries the dough, and when they are released, a delicate flower-shaped pastry is covered by hand, by the vendors with shakers filled with powered sugar. The end product is a delicate, very thin, crispy, edible flower shaped, treat. Because they are thin and delicate, I recommend they be eaten sooner, than later. They too can be taken "to-go",....but they taste best when eaten right away. By the next morning the oil in the pastry, seems to dominate their taste. Believe it or not,...there has always been a MAXWELL HOUSE COFFEE (hot) coffee vendor, in one of the larger pavilions, which are air conditioned. You get the best damned cup of hot black coffee. Better tasting, than when you make it at home, for some reason. (Fresher beans, I suppose). Sometimes it is sold on the mid-way, from a English, double decker bus, that is stationary. Hot coffee and fresh fried pastries are my favorite.

    It is a crying shame they haven't invented SMELL-O-VISION, yet. The smells of the Ohio State Fair midway, are intoxicating. Those smells are what motivated me to recover from a serious illness I had in year 2000. I wanted to live again so I could immerse myself in those smells. It is primarily the smell of foods being cooked in oil. Fried foods, and batter-dipped foods. To take in the most delicious smells I recommend buying a ticket for a ride on THE CABLE CARS, that glide over the mid way. It is a relaxing sit-down ride over all the food vendors. There are excellent views of the whole fair grounds up there. Some years I brought along a small set of binoculars, in my backpack. Other years I took my zoom lens video cameras. Two people can sit in a single cable car, or one person can. It is great way to relax after hours of walking.

    I grew up in suburban Cleveland, Ohio and most of us had never heard of the Ohio State Fair. I began attending it when I moved to Columbus in 1977, when I was 24. It was & is the greatest form of entertainment, I had ever experienced. There is something for everyone, to enjoy. The food which covers everything, is not healthy for every day consumption, but is a treat to sample. I was young and lean back then, with no underlying health conditions. You don't go there to eat healthy, because decadence and excess, is the name of the game. The smells are so enticing. We'd plot out our food choices and tried to take them all in. In the broiling hot sun and high humidity that August usually brings its good to start out with a fresh, real lemon "shake-up". Two cups of fresh water, crushed ice, and the juice from a fresh whole lemon, plus almost a whole cup of granular sugar. Over the years we learned you can ask that they only add half the amount sugar, and you don't even notice it. It is sweet and refreshing, and they toss in half of a hollowed out lemon rind. It is important to stay hydrated. Next, get ready to begin eating.

    So glad this festival continues, I used to attend this one every season and always loved it. Sampling different ribs and sauces makes for good eating. Bring your wet wipes, because this can be a messy finger food. This weekend the weather won't be as hot, as the earlier weeks, of our summer, and should be perfect. If you have some Jazz greats you follow, and if they are here this year, you will enjoy the intimate setting where you can sit just feet from your favorite musician. In the 1980s & 90s when I attended I was keen on the music by the late, great Jazz organist,....Jimmy Smith. Jimmy is no longer with us, but he was around for long time. And was a regular who played at this festival. Back then you could stand or sit in the shadow of this legend, while he played his Hammond B-3 organ, just feet from where you were. I have many of his albums, and enjoyed his music beginning in the 1970s. He released many albums, and there is much music of his to enjoy. Here is a You Tube link to one of his albums from the 1990s. ruclips.net/video/EnUpUUUwkzk/видео.html

    Years ago there was a large fountain in Bicentennial Park, I think the splash pad replaced it. But it was a great fountain with lots of water spraying out of it and the pool around it was a large diameter. Which made it a great thing for folks to sit on. You felt the cooling mist coming off the main fountain head on your body, and people probably dipped their toes in the water too. If there was any breeze in the air, the mist went out farther. People strolled around the pool, and hung out around it.
