Interstellar TARS. Edging closer but I still have to figure out how to stop it falling over when walking on the benchtop. #interstellar #tars #meccano #robotics #stem #maker #modelengineering #sciencefiction #diy #mathewmcconaughey #annehathaway

Note: I meant to say 2 hours NOT 2 days at the end of the video. I've tried ultrasonic cleaning, now it's time to try tumbling.
The Little Engine That Could

Autoreversing using only Meccano parts
Managing a camera and a moving model at the same time...I understand :)
Great work. What is the range of that controller?
Only tried it within 1m. I think it needs an aerial. But for kids to drive it at expos, 1m will be fine.
@@JohnnyMeccano I have tried with Arduino with the NRF24L01 modules, they are pretty good even with wall as obstacles. I have tested the functionality on breadboard and its impressive
Arduino would certainly do it but I wanted cheap and simple.
Nice work! Can the shaft be removed and chucked in a lathe to reduce the diameter?
No. The motor shafts are an integral part of the motor and are press fitted. They are 3mm so I wouldn't want to reduce them anyway. Meccano requires SWG8 which is close enough to 4mm.
App name and send me the link
It's called Magnetic Counter - RPM Meter from UAB Sailracer and is available for free from the Google Playstore.
Used engine oil quench?
Dirty old sump oil.
loving the safety crocs 🤣
Yeah, my bad. I went down the shed in crocs just to think about how to do this. One thing led to another and so it goes.
@JohnnyMeccano no worries. All said purely in jest. The results look great
Impressive performance, John, on several fronts :) Is the blackening permanent?
Indeed it is. And no residue. Looks even better in the flesh.
Korean BBQ 😄
🤣
Super
I first saw this video on a Facebook post years ago and I still laugh every time I see it. David Couch's Connect 4 now works perfectly and it beat me every time at our Meccano expo but the look on David's face when it jammed is priceless!
Eye nicely done
Fantastic, thank you. I've just bought some n20s and was contemplating this task.
I've had to give up on those little N20 motors, with my clumsy building methods I've stripped out too many of those tiny gears.😪😪😪
Maybe try a sacrificial pully belt drive?
Sick dude
that thing goes!
Awesome!
Not plastic Lego props then? 😉
No. Genuine Meccano propeller part number 41.
I know. Plastic props are painful enough but Meccano is nasty @@JohnnyMeccano
very cool. walking mechanisms are very hard. I think for a start the two sides need to be synchronized, then you could probably make it rock back onto two legs and open up, rock forward, and close, possibly by the use of little one way wheel mechanisms in the feet.
I am on my way to make one for our St-Constant expo in August 2024. Also i realy need to clean all my brass parts and real tumbler are expensive. . Just wonder if i use wallnut shell if i still need to add water and dishsoap ?
It seems to work ok with or without the water and soap.
Which app
1. The App. I use a Samsung A21S which is Android, so my apps come from Play Store. Apple users need to download apps from App Store. I chose Arduino Bluetooth Controller by Giumig Apps because it was free, simple and had a keyboard layout with 10 buttons similar to a PlayStation. When you open the app the first screen shows you available Bluetooth devices. Select HC-05. Then it will ask what mode you want. Select Controller mode. You will now see a PlayStation keyboard. Tap on the gear icon top right and you will get a screen showing the 10 symbols. Tap on up arrow and set it to send the number 1. It could be A, B, C but let’s go with 1, 2, 3 for this project.

Very jealous of all those 1-inch gears!
Programmable no less!
Love Meccano and love Thunderbirds! The remake series was a childhood favourite growing up and I am very nostalgic for it and Meccano
Hell yeah
Great stuff Graham!
Thanks Bert. The FKM ailed a little later in the day, with pinch-roller trouble, so I then had to apply the tugging by hand :(. All fixed at home now though.
Soviet Union. Not Russian.
wow, very 😎
Thankyou. It was an excellent show, as usual :)
meccano, lego technic. when kids had to use their heads and not an ipad
👍👍👍👍
(Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall quietly sounds in the background)
Quite deliberately played on my TV while I was recording. 😁
Way more stable than Tesla's Optimus
Brilliant!
Thanks Graham. I'm way out of your league though.
Erector set???
Give that man a hand 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Excellent` job,
👍goods,
めちゃくちゃ凄い....最高です! It's so awesome .... The best!
How do you clean the teeth on cogs. Toothbrush?
Usually but sometimes I use an ultrasonic cleaner
@@JohnnyMeccano I was thinking of getting one. Which do you have, and what fluid is used.
@@markhodgkinson1737 it's in Johnny's Meccano Magazine October 2023 pages 5 and 6. Send and email to MeccanoNews@gmail.com and I'll send it to you. It's free.
Genius!
Very nice, but why gears at the wheels? Why not bush wheels?
I think the challenge was to build this using only parts from a dbdy number 5 outfit and the bushwheels had already been used elsewhere.
Nice🎉😂!
😁
Heck yeah, that's very practical. I like the tire used on the bottom of the jar for support. Getting technical on us quoting the RPM!
Maybe you should have left a bit of Vegemite in the jar? 😁😁 Seriously, I tried something like this, but the nuts and bolts just slid round the jar and didn't move much. Maybe the gritty stuff fixes that?
The gritty stuff is crusher dust used on driveways. It's leftovers from the quarry when they make the black stones for roads. Good stuff. The water also helps to keep things moving.
Sponsored by Vegemite?
I meant to say 2 hours NOT 2 days at the end of the video.
Mate... I started filling up watching this!!! 🙈😂👍🇬🇧 Awesome 🏆
I'm going buy this in cairns toyworld cairns
Cool. Let me see it when you've built it. email MeccanoNews@gmail.com
wow nice
Haha train go brrr
