A lot of movies will make a script that fits an actor. Gary Oldman is like "Just write your character; I'll do it."
of the last 20 years... it's : Gary Oldman, Daniel Day Lewis, Christian Bale, and I would maybe add Brad Pitt. Those are my 4 best that can pretty much do anything. Leo is great and others... but is he able to chameleon into any character he wants? No, he's going to be a version of Leo.

A personal favorite is his role in The Book of Eli I'm well aware he's done better roles & movies, but he does a great job portraying someone who wants power desperately by any means..

Prick Up Your Ears I believe. Just watched it a couple weeks ago. Check out Tiptoes. He plays a hunchbacked Dwarf twin brother to Matthew McConoughy who is the only regular sized one in the family. Imagine him making a movie where he walks around on his knees for the entire movie. THAT'S dedication to a part!
